SHHHHHHHHH! You'll take away Hot Topic's business!

i am the robots 03-26-2006 03:16 PM

New Wave Metal does exist, it's not any specific genre, it's just a grouping of bands, because for some reason, a lot of bands playing similar stuff do just congene in some gutter somewhere in huge masses, and then a few of the good ones lead the way, but for some reason people think that eveyrthing that gets big during their reign is the same genre, IE Godsmack (not nu-metal) and Korn (basically the definition of nu-metal) both being nu-metal.

Stoic 03-26-2006 03:16 PM
There is no such thing as New Wave Metal. Thats like believing mallcore is an actual genre.
Yeah Joe, I'd like to ask you about this. What kind of bands do you consider New Wave Metal?

Arucard 03-26-2006 03:16 PM
I would still put them an emo, until you can actually prove me wrong i will continue to do so.

Seriously man, just because i want to laugh at you, go to the emo community thread in Hardcore/Emo and ask if BFMV is emo.

All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, Trivium : To Stoic.

TojesDolan 03-26-2006 03:17 PM

My friends think I'm a disgusting pig because I drink cans of beer (regular, 16 oz cans of beer, anyway) in less than a minute. And it takes a while for me to get drunk, but I get dizzy fairly quickly (4 cans in less than an hour, I mean, that's in for intoxication).

But yes. Getting drunk isn't fun.

gmoneyguy 03-26-2006 03:17 PM
Please explain to me how they are Emotional Hardcore?

I would class New Wave Metal as a genre.
There lyrics, vocal style and guitar work. Its very similar to other Emo I have heard like From Autumn to Ashes.

I'd like to continue this debate some more but I have to get ready for work.

Invicta_Veritas 03-26-2006 03:18 PM

Yea I love it when people say bands like hatebreed and Godsmack are Nu Metal........

I generally try to stay out of genre arguements, mainly because so many bands have so many different influences and traits, that it just becomes one big war over who's right and who's wrong.........

Arucard 03-26-2006 03:18 PM

...

LOL.LOL.LOL.

FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES EMO.

Seriously man, this is why i stopped posting on mx.

You just get too passionate over this issue :)

EDIT after reading the post above:
...and I can see why

Arucard 03-26-2006 03:24 PM

Lyrics have nothing to do with what emotional hardcore is.

Invicta_Veritas 03-26-2006 03:25 PM

Again, lyrics do not define genre.......if lyrics definined genre, HIM would be emo/pop.

gmoneyguy 03-26-2006 03:25 PM
Lyrics have nothing to do with what emotional hardcore is.
Yes it does thats what make emo emo and hardcore hardcore. would actually bring something to this other then telling me im wrong and not backing it up. If lyrics have nothing to do with it, then what does emotional have to do with anything?

Lord Abortion 03-26-2006 03:26 PM

you know what?

why don't we get emo, hardcore, groove metal and any band to come out of america in the last 10 years and list them under one genre title?

how about "Gay"?

it'll end all these arguments

Stoic 03-26-2006 03:26 PM

gmoneyguy 03-26-2006 03:29 PM
I love ignorant people.......:smash: :smash:
Would please back up what you say. I make a point then you call me ignorant. Do you actually thinks thats a good rebuttal? Address the point, instead of calling me ignorant.

Invicta_Veritas 03-26-2006 03:32 PM
Would please back up what you say. I make a point then you call me ignorant. Do you actually thinks thats a good rebuttal?
I ALREADY MADE MY POINT YOU DOOF! Lyrics do not define a genre!!! It defeats the point of having music, and not just having everybody sing occapella!!!!

Arucard 03-26-2006 03:32 PM

Ok right. Emotional Hardcore was a branch of from standard hardcore in the late 80's, early 90's. This type of hardcore was not like the straight out brutality associated with normal hardocre, but a lightly more melodic and less brutal approach, with lyrics that are actually comprehendable.

Real emo : Rites Of Spring. Check them out douche bag.

Those are good examples, some more would be As I Lay Dying, Bury Your Dead, Between The Burried And Me, Avenged Sevenfold, The Hurt Process, From Autumn To Ashes, Unearth, Byzantine, Animosity, In Death We Rise, etc.

Also, Lamb of God and Darkest Hour get unrightfully lumped into there, they've both been around since around 1995.

TojesDolan 03-26-2006 03:36 PM
Jesus, and I thought I drank quick =P.
Yes my friends found that out yesterday. And someone got into a brawl and I was jumping and playing with the bags full of ice because we didn't have a bucket to store the beer... lol.
I would disagree.

/fact
It's only fun when:

* You're among other drunk people
* You're among drunk people and you're sober
* You're sober and the drunk people are naked in the floor with poop all over their pants (that's happened)

It's not cool when:

* You're drunk alone
* You're drunk and everyone else is sober
* You go home, try to sleep and your bed moves all over the room and you can't control it unless you sleep on the floor

Hahaha, I like a lot of that stuff, but that tickled my funny bone.

I raise you with:

If that stuffs gay, then what the hell is Cradle of Filth?

Arucard 03-26-2006 03:36 PM

The only thing really about Avenged Sevenfold WTF era is that unlike most/all American Metal bands, all of their songs don't sound exactly the same.

Invicta_Veritas 03-26-2006 03:37 PM

If I sing low harsh vocals, have gothenburg style guitars, and insane blast beat drumming, but my lyrics are about love, according to guitrguy, I would be emo.......

When in reality, its melodeath with F*cked up lyics
