meh, i like em. some of the songs on their selftitled are definitely skippable though. their drummer is like... at a musical plane 1 step higher than the rest of the band.
this

Angmar 08-22-2008 01:02 AM

Currently doing some research on the Sweden/Finland/Norway trip me and some friends wanna take after graduation, shit looks like it'll cost around 3k each person, but should be worth it.

Tyr 08-22-2008 01:10 AM

You're planning a trip to Scandinavia? Cool.

Angmar 08-22-2008 01:12 AM

Yup, got a friend with family in Oslo and always had an interest in traveling there myself. Do you know how much a couple week train pass to travel around those three countries would run for per person?

Tyr 08-22-2008 01:16 AM

Check out this site:
http://www.interrailnet.com/

There might be other options, but I'm not sure.

Angmar 08-22-2008 01:19 AM

Damn that ain't cheap haha, oh well, cheaper than taking planes everywhere.

We plan on flying into Stockholm, Austin thinks he might wanna go to, we could always pop in and say hi Bjorn. :)

Tyr 08-22-2008 01:23 AM

Yeah, it's pretty expensive. Be prepared, Norway's the most expensive country I've ever visited.

If I'm in town, we should definitely meet up.

Angmar 08-22-2008 01:26 AM

I was reading online that to get by you would need to spend a minimum of $75 a day for a Europe backpacking trip, I figure I wanna plan on spending $100 a day so I have a nice cushion to be prepared for whatever.

Tyr 08-22-2008 01:33 AM

I haven't backpacked in a long time, so I'm not up to date on the prices, but it seems reasonable. And a cushion is something I'd highly recommend. You never know what might happen.

Angmar 08-22-2008 01:37 AM

Have you ever taken the ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki? I'm thinking doing that would be the best way to jump start the trip after landing in Stockholm and spending a few days there, then looping around Finland and Norway, exploring Sweden and then coming back to Stockholm for the flight home.

Tyr 08-22-2008 01:46 AM

I have taken the ferry lots of times. It's a popular drinking trip, going back and forth. I think that's a really good way to start the trip, since Finland is a bit inaccessible by train and you might just want to go through the northern part once. So starting in the south and working your way counter-clockwise seems like a good idea.

So how long and how much does the trip usually run for on the ferry? Like would it have to be an overnight thing or could you leave in the morning and get to Helsinki in the evening?

xtc 08-22-2008 01:53 AM

im coming with you
So how long and how much does the trip usually run for on the ferry? Like would it have to be an overnight thing or could you leave in the morning and get to Helsinki in the evening?
It takes about 16 hours, I think, and all ferries leave in the afternoon/evening, so you'll arrive in the morning. I'm not sure about the prices.

http://www.tallinksilja.com/en/
http://www.vikingline.fi/index.asp?lang=en

Those are the two options available, that I know of, at least.

botb 08-22-2008 02:00 AM

i'd love to do that but im broke as ****.

Angmar 08-22-2008 02:02 AM

I'm pretty poor right now but I can save up my money pretty easily, I don't tend to waste it much. Plus I can make 50 bucks a day doing labor work for people I know, would be pretty easy to save up 3k doing that.

McP3000 08-22-2008 02:14 AM

I got a new Dell XPS a few days ago, and i used my Suite Mate's external harddrive to transfer 21 gigs of music, and like a 30 mbs of artwork. Took an hour, but its worth it since my old laptop cant hold anymore music on it.
I dunno why everyone bitches about Vista either. Its amazing so far. But then again, ive gotten a really new/souped up system.

Also, this suite mate is Romanian. He moved to Pepperdine straight from his country a week ago. Total badass, even though he smokes like a chimney.

Tyr 08-22-2008 02:18 AM

All Eastern Europeans smoke like chimneys. It's genetic.

McP3000 08-22-2008 02:18 AM

Yeah. He's made friends with every other international student in like 3 days.

Also, his roommate has the worst case of yellow fever ive ever seen.

McP3000 08-22-2008 02:21 AM

HAHAHA

okay, the romanian dude is now playing German Electronica-influenced Reggae in the next room

He's my new best friend

Tyr 08-22-2008 02:24 AM

Every international student I've ever met has been friends with the other exchange students. It just comes naturally, I think.
