BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-20-2005 03:27 PM
But Lennon is still a guitar player. Syd Barrett made the list and he only play on one album. Lennon did some of the solos in the Beatles records too, and well.. he plays the guitar too.
Just because Lennon can play guitar does not mean he should be on there. Robert Johnson did good. :)

Broken Arrow 03-20-2005 03:30 PM

Didnt he get 3rd on the Rolling Stones list?

When you post the final list you should make a link of the Rolling Stones list so people can compare.

EDIT-Nevermind he got 5th, B.B, King got 3rd. He is the highest ranking person still alive.

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/5937559?rnd=1111353918670&has-player=false

EDIT-wow Jerry Garcia beat Jeff Beck on this RS list.

EDIT-This list is horrible

EDIT-Neil got 83rd :(

EDIT-John Cipollina got 32nd :)

EDIT-Oh snap! Gilmour got 82nd.....There's gonna be hell to pay

Good idea. I wish people would stop complaining. :(

its not your fault though. its the people on the site. kirk hammett my ***.

and my initial post on the topic was supposed to say that i was disappointed that so many people DONT think hendrix should be up there. because i think he should. and then the rest of it made sense. but yeah. hendrix, beck, and mclaughlin probably. or maybe clapton. this is gonna be tough.

Good, I was starting to think I was the only one who thinks Henrdix isn't overated or worthy of being top 3 material.

Broken Arrow 03-20-2005 03:39 PM
Don't get your hopes up...having done two of these, all anyone will do is complain. :p I guess I can't really talk though. :-/ Anyway, our list of the top 100 albums turned out broadly quite well, so hopefully this will do the same as well. To whoever was talking about Syd Barrett, I think he appeared on one song on A Saucerful Of Secrets, with Gilmour playing on every other song.
Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun I believe.

Back from Kansas.
EDIT-This list is horrible
Yes, it has some major errors, but also contains some interesting and good picks :).

Walrus Gumboot 03-20-2005 04:46 PM

Kansas, eh?
Kansas, eh?
point of know return?

B0nz0 03-20-2005 04:52 PM

boring state. band with a couple good songs (one great one actually)

lunch998 03-20-2005 04:53 PM

They choked so hard in the NCAA tourney.

jpj 03-20-2005 04:54 PM

Carry on Wayward Son is the closest thing to perfect ever.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 03-20-2005 05:03 PM

I am caught up now.

I can't believe I missed the Casey Jones sing-a-long.:(

I still need to check out the greatest guitarists poll thing.

How was Kansas, Badmoon?

I just saw the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions earlier. Anyone else watch it?

B0nz0 03-20-2005 05:07 PM
Carry on Wayward Son is the closest thing to perfect ever.
maybe not the closest ever, but it's up there

thickasabrick 03-20-2005 05:10 PM

Ya I really like Carry on Wayward Son. It just includes tons of elements I like about songs.

edit- I'm actually pleased with the Guitarist list. I'm glad to see it isn't just the same old rock and metal guitarists. Tony Rice got seven votes! I'll be voting Hendrix.

But I'm not exactly happy how Tom Morello is almost doubling Hendrix in Round 1. I like Tom Morello, but he isn't better than most of the guitarists in that poll.

lunch998 03-20-2005 05:12 PM

I might go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next weekend.

B0nz0 03-20-2005 05:15 PM

what do u guys think of traffic. i want to start getting into them more. i think i'm gonna go get the album "john barleycorn must die." is it good?

lunch998 03-20-2005 05:17 PM
what do u guys think of traffic. i want to start getting into them more. i think i'm gonna go get the album "john barleycorn must die." is it good?
They are one of my favorite bands. I personally prefer their earlier psychedelic stuff, like their S/t and Mr. Fantasy, but John Barleycorn Must Die definitely has no shortage of talent and musicianship. I'd say get it.

Take me with you...I wish. I already have plans for Easter/Easter weekend, and they don't involve the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.:(
Take me with you...I wish. I already have plans for Easter/Easter weekend, and they don't involve the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.:(
Do they involve old ladies?

Mine used to involve spending Thurs. and Fri. at Mt. Snow, but that plan fell through

maybe Sugarloaf :dreams:

B0nz0 03-20-2005 05:21 PM

hmmm who to vote for... hendrix, vai, allman, or neil young. i think someone should vote for fripp but against ppl like hendrix i cant. tom morello has way too many votes. i think of those hendrix and vai have the most skills, but i love young and allman, and i want to make sure all those 4 move on. so who to vote for?

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 03-20-2005 05:26 PM

Vote Neil. I doubt Hendrix or Vai are going to have any difficulty going through.

lol. My Easter plans don't involve old ladies.

I borrowed some Rush tapes from a friend this weekend. Which should I start with? Hemispheres, Hold Your Fire, A Show Of Hands, Roll the Bones, or Counterparts?

B0nz0 03-20-2005 05:28 PM

yea but i'd rather see allman than neil if i can only have one...

EDIT: is morello really that good or is he just popular?

Walrus Gumboot 03-20-2005 05:28 PM

I don't even know who Tom Morrello is or who he played for :upset:

Needless to say, I voted Young

morello is from rage against the machine...

but is he really all that good or is he just popular with the metal heads?

Very fun! My whole family was there (Which isn't odd, we all live in the same small town here in Illinois (except 2 exceptions)) and the wedding we attended was also fun. I really enjoyed driving through the country side; Eastern Kansas is nothing but huge hills.

My cousin told me some cool LSD stories and interesting tales from his past, also.

Sounds like fun, I have a frined who moved from Kansas that said everyone there was trying to introduce her to Jesus (She has long blond dreadlocks dyed purple) so she was glad to get out

i was asking ppl who might actually know the material. i mean some of them can be very good even if i hate the style...
