hhahahahaha not really. She might be shorter, but!!!! I'm a sloth. So in a way, she's got an advantage!

repcak 07-30-2006 04:01 AM

haha
you had your fun last night... and i couldn't fall asleep and instead of going online i read a book until 4am :p
That's what Jeff Loomis from Nevermore does in This Godless Endeavour. ^^^
so its allowed - but why? is it a passing note, or has it to be a part of the scale i play in? but then it won't be an arpeggio - it would be a only a sweep using a scale.
/me not the best in theory, but try hard to be :p

MRDuCran 07-30-2006 04:27 AM

Why is it allowed? Mainly because it's music and you can do what you want. You should think of theory as a guideline and not strict rules otherwise you'll turn out like me. I can't help but see scales not everytime I try to improvise, write riffs solos etc. You should maybe base a solo off of a scale judging by the key but let your ears decide whether a note is acceptable.

"or has it to be a part of the scale i play in? but then it won't be an arpeggio - it would be a only a sweep using a scale."

Also, don't think just because it's 4 notes that it's not an arpeggio, think of a 7th arpeggio.

But in this case yeah it is an arpeggio with an extra note which makes it seem like a scale, but as you said, you should see it as a passing note.

I'm confuzzled...

I'm listening to Benighted, it's brutal stuff.

Prince Charming 07-30-2006 04:54 AM

Benighted owns.

MRDuCran 07-30-2006 04:59 AM

It's a bit too extreme for my liking.

I was listening to Psycroptic earlier and some times the vocals were actually making me cringe. He does this really weird thing that makes me feel funny.

Actually these blast beats are quite good. Usually I hate all blasts in DM because it sounds ghey, especially if they're doing 16ths:

1234
bsbs

B = Bass drum
s = Snare drum

If you've got the snare drum on the a + e of a beat it sounds so out of place to my ears.

When I used to blast at college I would always do the snare on the beat.

Prince Charming 07-30-2006 05:00 AM

^_^

MRDuCran 07-30-2006 05:05 AM

:smash:

repcak 07-30-2006 05:20 AM

thanks mitch.

i like blasts in DM... i would like to have blasts on my drum machine... but it has only rock and jazz drums... no metal-style drums :(

MRDuCran 07-30-2006 06:43 AM

You could just program in some drums in Guitar Pro and play over that if you really wanted too. Or Beatcraft, that's a proper drum program.

Lol I just had the exact same conversation with a chick yesterday (minus the lame pun part, she doesnt know who COB are shes a girly girl)

Squirrel 07-30-2006 09:14 AM

Blasts are strange; they absolutely pwn, yet some bands use them so badly and their playing of them is atrocious.

Decapitated are firm users of the quality blast, Brodequin arent.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-30-2006 09:26 AM

Psycroptic use them pretty well.

Nile's blasts and constant fills get annoying. Churning The Maelstrom would be so much better if there wasn't a drum fill every 5 seconds.

Squirrel 07-30-2006 09:39 AM

Psyrcoptics are brilliant; songs like Alpha Breed have incredibly fast work, its crazy.

He's also brilliant with his cymbals too, very cool and diverse use of them.

MRDuCran 07-30-2006 10:00 AM

I actually like Decapitated, very good. And I found out that the drummer was 14 when he joined or something, pretty awesome.

Squirrel 07-30-2006 10:01 AM

Wow, you're only about 5 years behind the rest of us then. Nice.

Alexi recorded something wild when he was 17 (?).
behemoth got famous with 16.

Squirrel 07-30-2006 10:06 AM

Not exactly famous, seeing as they've been under the radar practically up until their latest release.
