srt-4 04-06-2007 12:56 AM

ben, i said a long time ago that i would ask about good colleges for international relations that are actually possible to get into. i didn't forget, i just hadn't seen the professor around that i wanted to ask. i finally did, and he said that georgetown university and university of chicago have programs that are right up there with the ivy leagues.

whiteminority 04-06-2007 10:19 AM

Thanks, srt. I think Chicago might be a tad out of my range but I think Georgetown might be possible.

I'm not emo asshole, it's not an adjective.

bottlerocket 04-06-2007 10:29 AM

I think Georgetown is tougher to get into tha U Chi.

Ben, take it form me. Just go to a school you're going to be happy at. I mean, pick a good school, yeah, don't just go to some crappy local community college, but don't think like I did. I thought if I didn't get into an Ivy, all my work was meaningless and I was going to die poor, unmarried, no kids, and have a miserable life.

You wanna go to a school where you're happy and can just chill out and have a good time. I mean, ****, you're gonna be in the prime of your life. Just have fun. **** everything else. Don't put as much emphasis on "is this a good school?" Put it much more on, "Is this school right for me? Will I have fun?" I wish I did 'cuz I sure as hell wouldn't have gone to Holy Cross.

College has changed me so much, haha.

cbmartinez 04-06-2007 10:30 AM

Rofl sounds like a pretty pothead statement to me

bottlerocket 04-06-2007 10:31 AM

rofl no it's just an enlightened statement.

College is seriously 75% social, 25% academic...from my experiences, anyway.

Chris, are you going to American?

WE BEAT YOUR ASSES IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAYOFFS LOL

PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPS

Too bad I didn't care at all, haha. It was an excuse to party, though.

cbmartinez 04-06-2007 10:49 AM

Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

bottlerocket 04-06-2007 10:50 AM

Sick. That's awesome that you really wanted to go there in the first place.

It should be a lot of fun.

It's in DC, right? My dad did gradschool in DC (Georgetown). He said DC is SO awesome. Always something to do.

I know man, it's a good thing to know about schools that have good programs for subjects I have interest in. How far are you from Amherst? I'm trying to get my family to swing a college visit up there to look at the schools. Another rad school I'm looking into is Goucher in Baltimore, sounds and looks fucking awesome.

bottlerocket 04-06-2007 11:20 AM

I'm like a 2 hour drive from Amherst. Opposite end of the state.

Amherst College...U Mass Amherst...Smith College...SO many colleges out there.

It's very fun college town.

whiteminority 04-06-2007 11:41 AM

Damn, yeah I'm checking out that 5 college consortium (whatever they call it) hopefully. But if you way out that = lame.

AIRIC 04-06-2007 11:47 AM

I'm worried about college I have horrible grades.

Matt? 04-06-2007 01:34 PM

i'm not that worried. i have ok grades

cobert 04-06-2007 01:36 PM

I am worried, and I have pretty good grades (All A's and one C for last quarter).

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 04-06-2007 02:27 PM

I don't give a ****. I'm going to community college and I'm still not sure if I want to graduate.

RetiredAt21 04-06-2007 02:29 PM

My g/f goes to college and she's always pressuring me to go to college. Fuck college. High school was enough trouble.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 04-06-2007 02:38 PM

You get awarded with a bulls'hit job because you went to a facility to learn trivia for 12 years and then went to a facility where you have to pay to learn trivia. Congrats.

It's way too far for me to randomly be in that area. :(

While you're here, just take a trip into Boston to look at Emerson, BU, and schools like that. I'd def meet up with you in there. In all honesty, I'd probably be in the city anyway. :p
My g/f goes to college and she's always pressuring me to go to college. Fuck college. High school was enough trouble.
Really, you should go. You'll have SO many more options for jobs when you get older.

Just a suggestion, though. It's your life.

RetiredAt21 04-06-2007 05:05 PM

I doubt I'll ever go.

cobert 04-06-2007 05:36 PM

Gay school band thing is covering fugazi for a show on the 13th with the chemistry teacher's band and the special ed teachers band.

The fugazi cover is porbably the only good thing about it. I swear if I have to see this guitarist kid for any more 5 hour practicies Ill fight him. Probably the only person I actually hate.

Because enjoying what you do isn't punk?

I'm not going to college to get a bullshit job, I'm going to college because I want to make an actual difference in this world as opposed to being an apathetic loser about it.

cobert 04-06-2007 05:45 PM

I think I want to go to college just to learn more about something Im interested in, I dont know if Ill even use it.

and you believe the psychological conditioned college of the U.S.B is the way to go?
you really don't need that crap "just" to make a difference in this world.
go pick up garbage in the streets. that'll make a difference, AND save you $$$.

Well the last time I checked colleges weren't a brainwashing factory, they were places where you can go to learn beyond what is considered to be standard.

Id say finding a cure for cancer is a little bigger than temporarily fixing litter.

I went to college because I want to be able to make enough money to support a family when I get older.

Maybe that makes me selfish, idk, but I want to have a family and kids. I love kids.

I can already tell I'm going to be an awesome dad. I'm seriously going to spend so much time with my kids and let them know they're the best thing ever...but I won't spoil them. I can't explain it but I honestly think I'll be a really, really good dad. I'm looking forward to it. :)

When I'm ready, that is.

So yeah...all those late night term papers...cramming for tests...yeah, I enjoy learning. Learning's a powerful tool. Ultimately, though, I'm doing it out of love for someone (or something, even) that doesn't even exist yet.

Love is a powerful fucking thing...
