It's Speak To Me/Breathe.
|
for album intros Pink Floyd always takes the cake. It seems like they write an album, and then add a beginning and end to it to make it complete.
One of These Days and Speak to Me (or does Breathe come first? i can never remember which is which) are my two favourite album openers. Although Strange Days is also a great opener.
My favorite has to be The Song Remains The Same, off Houses of the Holy. That is just such a great opening track. |
I've heard one song by Mountain, it was Nantucket Sleighride. I liked it a lot.
|
I like the intro on the first track on Led Zeppelin's first album. What a way to start

Good Times Bad Times? Its alright. |
Unclebobscircus reminded me of something, who's seen Spinal Tap?
It's mediocre, but it's got some funny parts. The amp that goes to 11 and the sustain on the guitar immediatly come to mind. |
Spinal Tap is one of the best rock movies ever made. Never question it's hilarity.
|
^Ive seen it but I didn't think it was that funny
|
I like "The Empereor of Wyoming" (cant spell) Neil Young's 1st song as a solo artist.
Edit: Oh and On the Beach > Harvest |
I thought it was sort of depressing after a while. Just cold and empty, maybe a little bit sad, they were just so pathetic/bad/washed up/ugly/old
|
It's Speak To Me/Breathe.
well that sure clears things up. those tricky bastards. I think Houses of the Holy would have been great with any one of the songs starting it off. I think The Rain Song would have been the best closing song to that album. That songs awesome. |
Spinal Tap was mediocre at worst, but when it was funny, it was the most hilarious movie ever. You have got to love the "more cushion, the sweeter the pushin'" song.

The Rain Song is greater than any other Zeppelin song. George Harrison loved Led Zeppelin, and he told Jimmy Page that they didn't write enough ballads. So, Zeppelin took Harrison's ballad, Here Comes The Sun, and made a ballad with the opposite meaning. Hence, The Rain Song.

I think it's a good song, but you really appreciate the genius of Jimmy Page once you learn how to play it. The guitar is tuned to open Gsus, which is (as far as I know) unique to that song. |
What do you guys think are some of the best album intros(the first song)? I think we should make a list or something.
Wow, I didn't know that I think I like the live version more than the studio one. Maybe it was because I heard it first, but I feel the same way about the "How The West Was Won" version of The Immigrant Song. |
Oh I forgot about Hendrix! He had the best intros I know of

Edit: Oh and On the Beach > Harvest
No doubt. Cool info Woodstock.:) I have only heard Mississippi Queen by Mountain and it was good. |
Best Led Zep song = Tangerine or That's The Way
But I don't want to turn this into another Zeppelin discussion, so I'll leave it that. |

I need to get some of their stuff, I only know fortunate son
|
How about Neil Young? Whats his best album?
|

Not unknown. But listen to Cotton Fields. It's an old blues song or something like that, but CCR did a great version. The Beach Boys butchered it. |

Go to xsao.net and go under Oldies in the Listening Booth. They have CCR. |

But I still like Zeppelin. |
