Robert Crumb 08-03-2006 11:18 PM

Pretty much. I'm just one big fucking autodidactyl.

masada 08-03-2006 11:20 PM

Robert Crumb 08-03-2006 11:25 PM

No way, dude. Twister, maybe. Four square, probably. But not hopscotch. Not never, dude.

Robert Crumb 08-03-2006 11:26 PM

I'd be all like:

YDload 08-03-2006 11:28 PM

Hey Zappa you oughta learn yourself a saxophone

I learned in elementary school and played the whole way up to tenth grade. Then I said "screw this" and taught myself bass (with the help of a friend plus this site).

Well_Respected_Man 08-03-2006 11:41 PM

I play theremin and tea cups with pens.

masada 08-03-2006 11:43 PM

i need to convert to Crumbunism now

Zappa 08-04-2006 12:31 AM

I've always heard that clarinet is harder than saxophone. So if I get it down, I should be able to pick up other typical reeds fairly easily(?).

Daniel! 08-04-2006 12:49 AM

Clarinet is quite a bit harder than sax. Going from one register to another is so damn hard on clarinet. Good thing thing the upper register on my bass clarinet is screwed up and I can't use it anyways. I have to play pretty much everything an octave lower.

br3ad_man 08-04-2006 06:58 AM

I play guitar, bass, trombone and piano. I wouldn't consider myself good at any of them though. I want to get a harmonica. They seem cool.

Kyle the 2nd 08-04-2006 08:01 AM

I just inherited a file with every UK number one from 1953 - 2003 in it. a lot it is lame, but it's a pretty cool thing to have.

Happymeal 08-04-2006 09:23 AM
I taught myself to masturbate.
Did you learn that by ear?

ATM 08-04-2006 09:50 AM

I played a theremin at work the other day, I want one.

biografiend 08-04-2006 10:35 AM

I play trombone

As well as alto sax (8 yrrz w00t), tenor sax, piano, and bass. Sax is really easy as far as fingerings go, where the clarinet has some really wacky ones.

ATM 08-04-2006 11:10 AM

I used to play piano. I still fool around on it quite a bit, writing melodies. I also played trumpet, baritone, and tuba. Guitar is my main instrument, though. Hopefully I get a banjo for my birthday coming up

Well_Respected_Man 08-04-2006 11:22 AM

I would still have the school banjo if they didn't realize I took it home over the summer and needed it back a few weeks in.

Saxaphone is so cool, though. I can't believe you would quit saxaphone alltogether.

Now that I'm in a band with two saxaphonists, I really appreciate the instrument more.

Matt OH! 08-04-2006 03:48 PM

they look more hair metal then scene.

Sexymuffin Vol. 2 08-04-2006 04:01 PM

they're probably not any good unless they have tablas

Kyle the 2nd 08-04-2006 05:56 PM

Yeah, I never really liked Editors, but quite enjoyed their set. I'm a bit gutted I missed Cursive earlier though.

sr800bkBassist 08-04-2006 06:08 PM
OK I'm digging the live feed of Lollapalooza right now. Editors. Good band. They don't really translate to an outdoor festival in the daytime though.
how are you getting that?

sr800bkBassist 08-04-2006 06:17 PM

alright cool.
thanks!

ATM 08-04-2006 08:50 PM

I missed Sleater-Kinney when they were here the other night :-/ Apparently the power went off on them right when they were about to go on.

br3ad_man 08-04-2006 10:32 PM

Sleater-Kinney are ****ing awesome live. Good festival band.

asymm 08-04-2006 11:08 PM

Just saw the movie Brick ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0393109/ ) and I whole-heartedly recommend it to everyone here. It's a great, little movie. You can tell, through word of mouth, it'll become quite the cult classic.

A high school, crime/dective film noir. As much as a stretch it sounds, it works very well. The subtle humor, the dense dialogue, and the cinematography all make this film shine. Comes out on DVD next Tuesday - so make sure you rent it.

masada 08-04-2006 11:11 PM

it has a retarded name so i'm not seeing it

asymm 08-04-2006 11:21 PM

Brick - as in, drugs compressed into that shape.

masada 08-04-2006 11:22 PM

JonM has probably seen it.

asymm 08-04-2006 11:23 PM
Haha, this isn't quite that kind of movie...
Oh, so it doesn't have a reggae soudntrack and five paragraphs on the characters progressing and going through life-changing experiences (Deep stuff like playing bass).

Shucks. :(

ripest 08-04-2006 11:28 PM

Hello there yourself. I'm Liam, and I like artists such as Elliott Smith, Kyuss, and Belle & Sebastian.
