RR - i love the V-shape. the next guitar will be a RR for sure... it doesn't has to be expensive, i just want to have one :p it will look so ... yes, like sex on stage :D
Alexis Wildchild guitar is stolen... nobody knows where it is; its the same as with the first guitar by Jimmy Page: the green fender telecaster (a wonderful guitar - the painting, fantastic!) -> got stolen too. |

We could all meet up and search the world together! Then again, whoever found it wouldn't say shhiiiiiittttttt to the others. lolol. If you guys want to try something.... Try Marc Rizzo. It's instermental metal. Kinda like Petrucci's solo/LTE/Jazzy edges of it. He makes Pertucci sound bad. That's all I have to say and I love Pertrucci. Dare I say, he's up there or better than Sucimez. |
LOL Dylan wtf, Mark Rizzo better than Petrucci...?
Shheeet. I've got one of his songs and it's quite good but I also have a video of him Betcha Can't Play This and it's sloppy as hell. I'm not keen on that ESP either, RG770's ftw. |

I've played RG's and all the ones up through the hella extensive ones My ESP owns every Ibanez I've ever played. It sounds and feels amazing. What have you heard bad about them? Yes, Marc Rizzo > Petrucci. This album isn't sloppy in the least. He's FAR MORE DIVERSE, complex and fast at times. Your musical opinion rating keeps dropping man. I mean, I'll cut your praise on Metallica some slack, we've all got our bands we love to death, but seriously. ya rly. What have you played or heard about that ESP or ESP's in geranal that you didn't like? |
I was only going by looks. Obviously I can't judge on the playability of it because I haven't played it but RG's and Alexi's RV are the only guitars I'd consider at this moment in time. And considering the 24th fret is hard to hit, I wouldn't get one. I was looking at an ESP M-II, they're pretty hot.
And I wasn't talking about how diverse each player is because I know Petrucci plays the same alot and I'm not fond of his solo work but in terms of technique, he wins. And again, I can't judge Rizzo's album because I haven't heard it but he was very sloppy on that video. I know you'll hate this but there's a video of Matt Heavy from Total Guitar showing this picking exercise and he plays it very fast, but it sounded like crap but I wouldn't say he was better than Gilbert, Petrucci etc because he's simply not. |

Far from great though. If you wanna talk about bad demo videos, try Mick from slipknot. He acts all great and struggles to do basic things. lollooolllooll omgz lol! The album isn't sloppy at all. It's beautifully done. Come on, when I of all people start enjoying a mostly flameco/spanish/jazzy album. That's a sign it's good. It's not hard to hit at all. The bridge is amazing. Playing sitting or standing up. I can play perfectly standing up, as with many guitars it's a challenge, due to bad design. |
I've seen a Mick Thompson one too and it wasn't great.
Maybe you should stick his album in the Daily Upload so me can check it out. As I said, I have 2 of his solo songs on here they're really cool. "It's not hard to hit at all" <- I was actually talking about Alexi's RV. He looks like he struggles to hit it and people who have them have said 23 & 24 are hard to get and I use the 24th fret quite alot so I'd get annoyed. But I haven't played one of those either so if I do, maybe I can decide then. There was supposed to be one in some guitar shop round the corner from where I saw Bodom and I was going to go play it before we went in but it wasn't there, which sucked. |
Check those ESP's out. That's the only ESP I've played, but it's great.
Alexi uses the 24th fret a lot so I'm not sure why he'd want a guitar like that? |
He uses it alot for tapping on top of arpeggios and bends but I can't think of too many where he frets it.
He probably uses them 'cause they look cool. |
He uses it alot for tapping on top of arpeggios and bends but I can't think of too many where he frets it.

I've gotten very good with string skipping, but I've realized two major weaks and the only real "weak" ones I have. Tapping & Sweeping. I've decided I won't even learn sweeps. tbh. Many times they really annoy me these days in music, so I don't like most +++ they are hard as hell to learn. So why spend all the time learning something I don't like in the first place? Tapping..... Bad... I just use my finger span (long) and tight echoing alt picking or w/e. Nothing I play has any tapping, that I can think of. |
Yeah I don't use tapping much either, if I do, it's in the same style as Alexi. None of that crazy Dragonforce style tapping or Michael Romeo etc.
Sweep picking I like but I suck at it now, I haven't played guitar properly in a week and haven't really focused on anything since I started college 2 years ago. It sucks 'cause now I'm forced to get a full time job and then I'll have even less time, even if I wanted to practise. Do you like Nevermore? |
Sweeping is good in moderation. Alot of moderation.
I find it annoys me more often than not, though. |

I liked that Deconstruction song though. Loomis is great, but I can't get into that sound. Galder of DB does some nice tapping if you'd believe it on a couple tracks. Not Romeo or Li like, but good. The thing I see about my playing is I don't play with heart anymore. Almost everything is like "sit back and watch myself". I mean. I play w/e well, right and it's well played...but it's more like just watching myself. I can't explain it. @ Jono, 123 |
Mitch, we have the same taste in guitars!
ESP: the only ESP guitars i like are the above 1500€ - the customs and the M-II, etc. Ibanez: only the RG-models and the prestige ones Jackson: ... hm... everyone? the MGs, Dinky, RR, most of the Jackson are beautiful. today its the second time i read that sweeping is a very hard technique to learn... i think i rushed myself to much. i always thought: that can't be that hard. well i practise/play sweeps every day... i'm getting better. and i don't like tapping either: the only techniques i want to learn and "master" is sweeping and legato... i don't care about the other techniques - not interested. |
its much more fun playing on a good guitar than on a cheap one :D
i played a little bit with my digitech rp-80 and couldn't find any good sound/distortion... there are some good ones, but its not what i exactly search for... what settings does alexi (or you use) use? do you know a website where the settings of some guitar players are listed? |
I have no idea what that pedal is or how it sounds but Alexi has his Mids pretty high, maybe about 6-8. His Treble about 7-9 and his Bass at something like 3-6. HDCR and AYDY are a bit bassier so it depends what you're going for. Don't forget his equipment is a billion times better than yours so don't expect it to sound perfect.

well, http://www.guitargeek.com has lots of guitarist's gear and stuff, but I'm not sure about amp settings. Just experiment. |
Guitargeek also hasn't updated for some time, so they don't have anything about Alexi.

thanks. is it possible that mids and contour is the same?
@Mitch: you finished your college and you're going to work now? |
thanks. is it possible that mids and contour is the same?
@Mitch: you finished your college and you're going to work now?
Yeah I've finished college and I have to get a job to pay my mum some benifits money crap that she used to get from the government, now they've stopped it 'cause I'm 18 and out of college so I have to money to make up for that loss. Contour isn't Mids, it's presence. I have no idea how to explain it but I'm sure you can hear the difference if you have it at 0% and then at 100%. I usually have it at 90/100%. |
Presence seems to be a bit like compression.

I won't be buying a guitar for a very long time, but they're very popular right now and I like to have experience. All I really know for sure right now is that Jacksons are fucking beautiful, Ibanezes are cheap pieces of shit, and Schecters are somewhere in between. |
you don't want to study something? to carry on with learning?
on my amp i had only contour/mids/treble/gain, no mids and on my multi fx i have mids but no contour  compression... i have compression, but this multi fx has so many effects. backwards i had only an amp, so that i'm overstrained with all the settings and effects. |

I learnt more at home from my own study and playing than I did in that whole 2 years, and that's no exaggeration, most people in my class thought that too. |
I realized I want to get a Caprisian guitar in the style of Tom Elgund (spelled wrong) of Evergrey. It's sexy, sounds kickass, and has 27 frets.
|
That does sound like a waste of time. I'll be studying music in college starting next year and hopefully I'll be able to really master guitar since I'm looking at some very prestigious places with very thorough guitar programs.
|
well i would like to learn guitar at university or at college, school whatever. my guitar teacher is doing this for 3yrs now and after he told me what they are doing i said: i won't do this and will take private lessons instead.
you learn a lot there, but i'm into metal and want to play metal and i'm not interested to play pop, rock and jazz things... he told me some songs they had to learn... :upset: - thats not my thing. don't misunderstood me wrong: a good guitar player has to play everything. metal, jazz, rock, pop, everything... but i play guitar as a hobby and for myself and not with the goal to earn money with it (except i would be famous :p ) |
i just played some sweep-exercises by troy stetina and came with this idea, which sounds great (imo).
--------9-12p9 ----11----------11 -12----------------12 thats the way troy stetina plays it. my way: ---------9-12p11p9 -----11----------------11 -12------------------------12 the 12p11p9 you do as triplets so you're in the same speed as above. its an e diminished 7th arpeggio and it shouldn't be allowed to play the 11th fret on the high e-string, but 1) it sounds great 2) if you do it fast (as a triplet) you don't hear what note is being played... or am i wrong? |
That's what Jeff Loomis from Nevermore does in This Godless Endeavour. ^^^
|
Whoa... What's going on here with all the ESP hating ITT?
Well. I've got a few ideas. 1. Mitch, our hater in chief of ESP guitars plays and loves a BC Rich. (non american made) I've only played the one that I have, which is very nice, but I've never heard any compliants about them. Talking to the guitar tech, he said he sees far less problems with them than Jackson's or Ibanez. Most Ibanez are nice, but not great. Most Jackson feel and sound dirty. IMO, Shecters aren't worth talking about, since they're below all these. There are exceptions to everything, but in general that's what I've played and learned. |
