However, Symphony X are Prog/power
Symphony X are God...

Actually, Nightwish is god. Symphony X are Jesus though. :p

Romeo is one of the best guitarists I've ever seen/heard, specially when you're watching him from 3 feet away. :D

Much to my own surprise, I've been getting into Children Of Bodom recently (got Hatebreeder on as I type)- does anyone else think there's a similarity (in some ways) between CoB and CoF?

Shadows Within 09-21-2005 04:00 PM

When you say CoF, you mean Cradle of Filth?

Not really, no.

Hallowed Be Thy Name with LaBrie is SOOOOOOOOOO BAD!

He can't DO Brucie...he should get that through his head.

The music sounds quite good though...

The only similarity I can come up with between COB and COF is both use a keyboardist. :p

ArcLite 09-21-2005 04:47 PM

I'll be genre whore and make the second correction, that being that Arcturus is Avant Garde metal.

wtf is that?

Steerpike 09-21-2005 04:52 PM

To my knowledge, Running Wild is the only pirate metal band in the world. And it better stay that way until the day Rolf retires and it comes time for another ambitious young blood to take the helm.

ArcLite 09-21-2005 04:57 PM
wtf is that?
Avant Garde music is basically music that challenges what is commonly known as music, or in other words, pushes the common musical boundaries. It often includes abnormal instruments, noises, and ochestrated elements. Anyone who can describe it better, feel free to add.

I honestly don't see the appeal to Cradle of Filth, but to see Cathedral live! Hot damn.

Yeah, I'm going :p

It's the best band I could have hoped for supporting.
It's almost as good a tour as it would be to see say, maiden supported by Dream Theater or Dragonforce, like they were this summer around (mainland  ) Europe.

Steerpike 09-21-2005 05:07 PM

Check them out. Lee Dorrian slays any attempt at vocals Dani Filth makes.

**** none on rhapsody...are they death?

Steerpike 09-21-2005 05:14 PM

Doom/stoner actually.

Shattered_Future 09-21-2005 05:56 PM

Cathedral was one of the original doom metal bands...they helped form the genre.

Shadows Within 09-21-2005 06:18 PM

anyone here like kamelot or am i alone? :p or are the prog?

Shattered_Future 09-21-2005 06:25 PM

Kamelot isn't prog...

They're power metal as well...

I rather like them...they have a really original sound going for them.

Steerpike 09-21-2005 06:42 PM
Cathedral was one of the original doom metal bands...they helped form the genre.
Actually, they came a little later in the game. They were mostly influenced by Candlemass, Trouble, The Melvins, and Saint Vitus.

However, they really do kick ass. Lee and Gaz are an awesome duo.
anyone here like kamelot or am i alone? :p or are the prog?
I got into them a while ago. Roy Khan really helped take the band to a new level.

Which reminds me, I still haven't gotten around to buying their new album. :upset:

Shattered_Future 09-21-2005 06:46 PM

Well, Cathedral was still a major influence in doom metal circles...

Off topic, my new Futures Of Metal is up. Go find it, and comment on it (or bump it for me if i haven't already. :) )

Fallen Zero 09-21-2005 06:53 PM

Who is a fan of mystic prophecy here? I bought "Never Ending", because I'm a fan of Gus G's work. I seem to like the vocalist sometimes and dislike him other times. Its weird.

Anyways, did i get one of the better Mystic Prophecy albums, or are there better ones?

Kronos 09-22-2005 03:46 AM

Well it appears no-one else saw any parallels between CoB and CoF; I think it's just the vocalists have sort of similar voices at times. (To me, anyway)
On another note - thanks to Det sending me an After Forever sample track, I've just purchased Decipher; and they were described as "melodic death/goth"
Seems a bit odd to me, anyone care to suggest a more likely genre that AF fit into?

Considering the fact he said After Forever in his post, I think he means that, yes.

I'd cosider them Gothic metal, really.

According to the review on sputnik, Stormhammer is supposed to be pretty crappy. Who agrees with this statement and who doesn't?

Lord Abortion 09-22-2005 07:16 AM

I AM ONE OF THE ORIGINAL DOOM BANDS!

I can't back that up with any real evidence, sorry :(

So I just picked up the newest Kamelot album, The Black Halo, and I'm really digging it. It has quite a few softer moments, but they're well placed and don't get boring. Lots of good riffs and extremely melodic. I'd recommend it to anyone in here. As someone mentioned earlier, it does have some progressive elements at times. If anyone wants to download a "testing" track try Momento Mori, a killer track indeed.
