Yeah I missed that when they were here too... bummer. Sounds like an incredible co-bill.

Railroad Earth has become one of my favorite bands this summer, them with the Allman Brothers is gonna be a sweet combo as well.

I saw a Pink Floyd cover band called The Machine last night. It was an incredible show, they really nail Floyd and jam and try new things live much more than Floyd ever did. The $40 tickets combined with a dick security guard who took my weed, hash, and a piece left me feeling really broke though. But yeah, The Machine are tight, check them out if they're in your area anytime.

Yea, this sounds about right. Too bad, I've heard nothing but good things so far

Ghostfire3 09-03-2009 12:55 PM

I went to Charter One Pavilion last night with a bunch of friends just to chill outside the venue and listen to Panic/Allmans tear it up and both certainly did.

I really wish I was in there. First night Panic covered Turn On Your Lovelight with Warren Haynes and Gregg Allman. And Buddy Guy came out and played with Allman Brothers for a few songs both nights. And Derek Trucks stepped in with Panic for a few tunes both nights. I wish I could have seen all this because just hearing it was magical.

robo2448 09-03-2009 03:28 PM

Wow that's pretty sweet that you got to hear it all for free. Was there kind of a party going on outside the venue, like a bunch of ticketless hanging out and trying to hear what they could? That'd be cool. I know I read back in the days of The Dead huge New Years Eve shows in San Fran/Oakland, Bill Graham used to set up huge speakers outside the venue so ticketless deadheads could congregate and listen to the show.

Speaking of free music, I saw John Fogerty for free in NYC last night. It was a really good. He's got a new solo album out and played a bunch of stuff from that, maybe the whole album. The new material was mostly (maybe all) covers of old country songs. His band was great, they sounded like Levon Helm's band or New Riders of the Purple Sage on the old country songs, real good stuff. Played a bunch of CCR too- Born On The Bayou, Lookin' Out My Backdoor, Keep On Chooglin', Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising and Proud Mary. Maybe 1 or 2 others. Unfortunately I got to the show late but only missed five songs, 4 of which were new songs. The show was really short, closer to an hour than hour and a half and there was no encore which was kinda lame but Fogerty rocks so it was really fun. He was such a good songwriter. Singing and guitar playing were as good as ever too.

Yup, there were people everywhere. My friends and I had to move locations a few times. First we were on a beach outside the venue where there was a large gathering of people chilling, drinking, etc. but cops came after Widespread Panic was done playing and told everyone to move on. Then we went to a different spot that was good to hear the Allman Brothers and just hung out with people listening there too. Found some super delicious (and special) rice krispie treats there too:p

robo2448 09-03-2009 10:10 PM

Nice man, I'm jealous. I bought so many ****ing edibles at Gathering of the Vibes, probably 7-8 and only one worked really well. Next year I'm making and bringing my own. Hope those special treats worked out better for you. Sounds like a cool scene.

Ghostfire3 09-03-2009 11:27 PM

Nice, I bet Gathering of the Vibes was a fun time. Unfortunate that you had bad luck with the edibles though.. At Rothbury this year I saw a guy who had a special-ice cream stand selling cups of ice cream and it looked like he was sellin out fast. I wanted to try some but was low on funds so I passed. It looked awesome but I wonder whether it was legit or not..

robo2448 09-04-2009 10:30 AM

Yeah... I mean the problem is they usually are legit actually, but just have so little weed in them. You kinda need to eat between .5-1 grams to get really high from my experiences and when they sell edibles for $5 it won't have very much weed in it or won't be very good weed. I had some rice krispies at Vibes that tasted exactly like really good weed so there was definitely stuff in there, but I guess just not enough.

Assembly of Dust and Mike Gordon

Hey, did you guys hear that Reid Genauer from Assembly of Dust is playing some solo shows with Mike Gordon?! AoD's new album is great and their song “Arc of the Sun” is the illest!
http://www.aodust.com/tour
I’m going to the Portland show :)

jpj 09-09-2009 12:19 PM

I'm going to the show this Saturday in VA.

Lunch 09-16-2009 03:50 PM

Just got Panic tickets for 11/24 at Royal Oak, MI! Wish I could make the Milwaukee run but don't have the funds.

Also got Greensky Bluegrass tomorrow night, then Perpetual Groove (the show I'm throwing) on Friday night, gonna be a good couple days.

robo2448 09-16-2009 10:32 PM

Nice, let me know what you think of Greensky and Pgroove. Haven't seen Greensky, but Pgroove was really good the last time I saw them.

Not really a jamband but I saw Roger McGuinn (leader of the Byrds) tonight which was an incredible show. He still has his incredible voice and I was blown away by his guitar playing, especially on Eight Miles High.

robo2448 09-19-2009 11:46 PM

Further, thoughts?

I heard a stream of last night's 1st set, sounded pretty good and got a lot better as it went on. The Jack Straw and Let It Grow smoked.

Lunch 09-21-2009 04:17 PM

Got the first night rolling right now, just got into the Jack Straw. They sound pretty good so far, I'm thinking as this show goes that things will really fall into place. It'll be interesting to hear the next two nights as well.

robo2448 09-21-2009 08:25 PM

first night gets a lot better. Set 2 is even better. Huge Scarlet Fire.

robo2448 09-21-2009 09:50 PM

check out this incredible Sugaree- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMXuwTB9dfE

Phil is dropping bombs everywhere, Bobby's rhythm playing is fantastic, and Jeff and John have terrific solos... I'm liking Furthur.

Lunch how were Greensky and Pgroove?

Lunch 09-21-2009 11:16 PM

Listened to the rest of the first show through Scarlet>Fire. Well, actually I skipped Sailor>Saint (see, they're just like the real Dead!). Althea and Scarlet>Fire were hot. With a little more work these guys could be real serious. I wonder what the future holds though. I've heard rumors about a run in NYC, possibly at the Beacon. Bring on the tour! John K sounded great once he loosened up a bit and started to assert himself.

Greensky brought it like they always do. Robo if you (or anyone else), have a chance to see them, definitely don't pass it up. Great, real bluegrass music from guys who are willing and able to "jam" but are well-versed in the traditional roots.

PGroove was really hot too, better than I remember them being. It was a great kick-off show for our group. Turnout was strong and people there had a ton of fun. They opened with an insane Teakwood that went on and on (in a good way). Other highlights were This Must Be the Place (Talking Heads song) and Three Weeks. I even got a chance to talk with Brock when we were hanging out before the show, he's a really cool guy.

robo2448 09-21-2009 11:37 PM

Go back and listen to the Lost Sailor > Saint Of The Circumstance man. It's not one of my favorite song combos but this version is really incredible. Beautiful guitar by Kadlicek, they really nailed it.

That sounds like a couple of sweet shows man. Pgroove do a great cover of This Must Be The Place, that must've been cool. And meeting Brock Butler must've been pretty fun.

MileHigh 09-23-2009 02:00 AM

Im gonna see Panic in Kansas City TWO nights in a row! i just saw them play back to back 3hour sets in Denver over the summer

Lunch 09-24-2009 11:45 AM

Nice. I saw them twice at 10K. Always such a good time. I'm going to the Royal Oak show this November but wish I could do more of the tour. Milwaukee is always nuts.

Ghostfire3 09-24-2009 02:10 PM

Oooh, I like me a good Sugaree. And you're right, I feel like they were really with eacother on that one. Some good, tight playing goin on..

Lunch 09-25-2009 03:16 PM

John and Phil jamming together is awesome.

The hot box

Just saw these dudes play in Milwaukee. Awesome band, featuring a trumpeter. Lead vocals by an Emcee named Vision. If you like hip hop and/or jam bands, you should definitely check them out. Check out their myspace page, http://www.myspace.com/thehotboxmusic, to hear the tracks. If you like what you hear, there are free downloads at http://www.ilike.com/artist/The+Hot+Box+(Hip+Hop). Definitely worth your time.

"All I juana do is sit around and smoke weed all day!" Seriously, check it out.

robo2448 10-07-2009 11:18 PM

Hey guys, I've started a music blog, check it out- http://chinacatsunflower.tumblr.com/

I've posted some music up there, just put up a link to one of the best dead shows ever, and I'll be posting more regularly.

Just posted another great show.

jpj 10-08-2009 07:57 AM

Dude that's super sweet. I'm pretty excited to hear these Furthur shows.

Lunch 10-09-2009 02:32 PM

Cool site Robo! You got some great stuff up there already. I'd add 8/6/71 to the list of essential Audience tapes. Hard to Handle = one of the best single Dead performances ever.

robo2448 10-11-2009 12:31 PM

thanks guys, i'll be adding a bunch more stuff soon. 8/6/71 is definitely up there... the recording is certainly better for sure, it sounds like a soundboard. But 6/24 is a way better show in my opinion. 8/6 has the Hard To Handle but 6/24' is just mindblowing for that entire electric set. I haven't listened to 8/6 in awhile though so i should probably do that soon.

does anyone listen to Hot Buttered Rum?

magicbus 10-11-2009 10:32 PM

It's funny how I knew exactly which Hard To Handle you guys were talking about, that is definitely a mindblowing solo by Jerry. Have you guys ever seen the Live In Copenhagen dvd? 4/17/72, it's pretty sweet. Got a real cool China Cat>I Know You Rider, and they really tear it up on One More Saturday night. Worth checking out.

I just saw my first Umphrey's show on Friday, they blew the roof off the place. Got STS9 and Telepath this Friday, and the Disco Biscuits on the 28th. I can probably only go to one, and I'd prefer to see Bisco but I don't think anyone else can make it, so we'll see.
