hey guys i'm back and i'm seeing the doobie brothers tommorow night
Yay, I missed you :). We kept the thread in good shape for ya. Doobie brothers sounds like it will be good. Is it like a bar show or are they playing an all ages venue?

B0nz0 07-26-2004 12:59 PM

all ages venue. then next week i'm seeing peter frampton. He'll play two songs that everyone will love and no1 will care about the rest of the show. but i'm totally psyched.

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 01:00 PM

Lol I can't see the allman bros cause they keep playing bars. God dangit.

B0nz0 07-26-2004 01:05 PM

ooo and while i was gone, i went to the st. louis jazz festival. I TOUCHED WYNTON MARSALLEIS. and got his autograph. that was an awesome concert. Other updates, i got two new cds. I was upset with my complete lack of a beach boys album so i got their latest greatest hits album: Sounds of Summer: the Beach Boys Greatest Hits. It's amazing. 30 Godlike songs for $10. get it now. And i got Concert For George which is also great and well worth the money. Only low is Tom Petty's singing on 3 tracks. But it's made up for by the best versions of Something, While my Guitar Gently Weeps, and My Sweet Lord. Even Ringo turns in a spectacular performance. But the biggest standout is probably Billy Preston, also known as the 5th Beatle. His vocals and keyboard work on My Sweet Lord and Isn't It a Pity are truly awe inspiring. Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra also turns in some great performances, as does Joe Brown. And Clapton and McCartney are of course outstanding as usual.

By the way guys, thanks for keeping this thread going, when i started it i had no idea it would be so successful, but look at it now: one of the biggest threads in R&M with over 2000 posts!

when was it released?
when was it released?
over a year ago. it's amazing though. it's called Birdland and you MUST get it...

Oh that's right, cause a sort of above average guitarist from the 60s and 70s is automaticly better than a really good one from the 80s/90s. The older they are and if they are from a well known band that got 80 percent of it's same from one bad powerchord riff that all of the 10 years can play counts for points

what's the lineup?

and

is jeff beck dead?

Badmoon 07-26-2004 01:35 PM

^What the hell are you talking about? Yes, I like Blackmore's playing more because he's from the 60's and 70's . Quit making assumptions. It's like your looking for an excuse to why I find Blackmore better.

EDIT: Nice edit too :thumb: .

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 01:36 PM

And I find Healey better. I find he has more technical skill and is better at songwritting. We will leave it at a conflict of opinons.

Badmoon 07-26-2004 01:38 PM

For all you know, I could have said, "No that's wrong! Healy > all. But you got to jump the gun, right?

EDIT: Fine

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 01:40 PM

Indeed. Sorry about making the assumption.
what's the lineup?

no jeff beck is not dead, he plays on a song on the album. they also have people like slash, satriani, jeff baxter, john reznick, and many more playing on the album. These are just guests on some songs though. They added a new lead guitarist to take the place of clapton, page, and beck, and he seems to be up to the task believe it or not. And they needed a new singer cuz their old singer/harmonica person died. But the new person they have on harmonica is GOD. His solos sound like an electric guitar solo complete with distortion and stuff...
Deep Purple - Woman from Tokyo... playing along to it with my guitar. Man i love jsut sitting in front of my comp and listeing to CR songs and improvising solos and stuff to them, alot of them rely on quite a few of the same 'type' of notes and all, anyone else do this?

DVG.
Man I pulled out the Cream yesterday and did that for hours, mostly over strange brew and born under a bad sign. That is some inspirational stuff. I love improvising.

poor man. the frampton tickets for me are only $20 a person!!

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 08:12 PM

is that what frampton's worth these days? Kids...

magicbus 07-26-2004 08:14 PM

Make sure he makes his guitar talk! Also this thread was slipping off page 1 again..

magicbus 07-26-2004 08:16 PM

Also my friend went to a Grateful Dead concert and said he met a bunch of people who were 100% insane. Like this guy named "papa bear" sat by them and gave out pancakes. And he said the solos were crazy long ones. So, yep.

BludgeonySteve 07-26-2004 08:16 PM

 oh no slipping off the first page . It goes off the first page in 2 minutes sometimes. There are too many stickied threads and too many bad threads being made. Don't be afraid to bump it off the 4th pages cause that only means it hasen't got posted in for an hour.

Grateful dead fans are exesive lsd and pot users. I wouldn't be surprised. Great band though. They have some of the best concerts ever.

Hey Mr. Light Man 07-26-2004 08:29 PM

The Doors (my second alltime favorite band), Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis (sort of Classic Rock), Black Sabbath (also very iffy), CCR (Don't listen to much though, sadly), Grateful Dead (same deal, I dont have enough Dead), etc.

Oh, yeah, I'm one of those teenagers who likes it, for the record, I am 13.

Nova12 07-26-2004 08:30 PM

I cannot get over Rush. They are ultimately my favourite band in all of music. I listen to all of Classic Rock really. All the old stuff is coming back and I am one of them.

So I hear. Wish I could've gone too.

i love it when ppl like this put in off topic posts after reading only the first post in an 85 page thread. they could at least bother reading the last half page so they say something relevant. geez

so are there any sly stone fans here?

Yeah we just kinda have half a page discussions in this thread. They would join in or something.

Sadly i've never heard of sly stone. :( Whoever they are. Could you list some songs by them or albums?

B0nz0 07-26-2004 08:57 PM

Sly and the Family Stone is their full names. Sadly all i have is a compilation album, but they are quite upbeat rock, laced with funk and soul. They performed at Woodstock, and therefore definately qualify as classic rock. Sly Stone himself overdosed shortly after.
They are best known for the song "Everyday People" which you may know from Toyota commercials.
Other great songs include "Dance to the Music," "I Wanna Take You Higher," "Everybody is a Star," "You Can Make it if you Try," "Hot Fun in the Summer Time," "It's a Family Affair," and many many more.

My personal Favorite though it "thank you (falletinme be mice elf agin)", pronounced thank you for letting me be myself again. if u like these i can give u more....
