uh.

how could you ever say Mullholland Dr. was bad?
Truth.

David Lynch is one of my favorites. Lost Highway is one of his best, IMO--it's got the eccentrism with one of his wilder plots. Everyone on earth should be required to watch the entire Twin Peaks tv series that he did in the early 90s--it's untouchable.

Glitterati 09-28-2006 10:10 AM
The only film I've seen by David Lynch is Mullholland Dr. and it was a steaming pile of crap, except for the lesbians.
i havent seen any david lynch. im thinking of renting blue velvet for my weekend film. either that or i heart huckabees.

so today at school i buy my ticket for the grad cruise on october fourth. basically all the grade twelves get on a big ferry and sail around the harbour for a while while everyone makes drunken idiots of themselves. fun ^_^
did you guys hear about Julian Casablancas' mom? :(

Robert Crumb 09-28-2006 01:46 PM

Mullholland Dr. is ok, but not the best Lynch, really.

pixiesfanyo 09-28-2006 02:02 PM

Robert Crumb likes Eraserhead 'cuz he's underground.

My favorite lynch is Fire Walk With Me

Glitterati 09-28-2006 05:31 PM

FWWM has the naked ladies galore.

I'm so leet that I bought a Korean import dvd of Eraserhead years ago. You have to turn the subtitles off.

The Great Decay 09-28-2006 08:13 PM

I've been wanting to watch Eraserhead for a long while; I think I may borrow it from a friend this weekend.

Blue Velvet's probably my favorite of the Lynch I've seen, which, as little as I've seen, really probably doesn't qualify me to speak on length about the body of his work. I lean towards Blue Velvet mostly because Hopper's performance is really one of the best I've seen in any film.

mr_jackalope 09-28-2006 11:42 PM

The hook-light. Dear god.

Robert Crumb 09-29-2006 10:39 AM

Our forum should start a fake internets emo band called Scarchasm. Or maybe death metal. Someone make a myspace.

pixiesfanyo 09-29-2006 12:28 PM

Maybe it should just be a fake indie band.

Because fake emo/deathmetal/rap groups are so passe.

sweboy 09-29-2006 02:39 PM

How about an experimental ambient/noise band so avant-garde the alternative kids won't really get if it's a joke or serious music worthy of total worship. This way we can make songs in twenty minutes out of random samples and noisy crap just put together, played backwards, resampled etc - fucked up to the limit of what could be considered music, but not so fucked up that the kids are completely sure that it's a joke. Then we just hype the crap out of the mysterious band (it's all about the hype) all over the Internet and suddenly we got an underground cult growing among the most hardcore indie kids of the web. And you know Pitchfork would totally praise it, as long as it's wierd and unknown enough.

JonM 09-29-2006 02:53 PM

Does anyone else think we should seriously consider doing this?

pixiesfanyo 09-29-2006 03:46 PM

So, basically Sweboy. We'd be Black Dice?

Glitterati 09-29-2006 05:27 PM

i call cowbell

sweboy 09-29-2006 06:30 PM

/looks up Black Dice

Tss, they're signed to a label, they reveal the names of the members, they have an offical website, they give interviews. They even sell records. Our band would be so enigmatic that people would question if it even existed.

Cowbell would be cool, if you run it trough a distorted trombone and then play it at x100 speed.

Zmev 09-29-2006 06:36 PM

i can make HUMAN FECES and feed it through a straw

yeah? yeah?

mr_jackalope 09-30-2006 01:19 AM

I'm a professional curcuit-bent keyboard player. So basically I'm the centerpiece of this band.

We will call ourselves...

...The Mars Volta.

Zmev 09-30-2006 01:40 AM

oh well it figures i mean the music is just going to be meaningless wank

Kyle 09-30-2006 03:38 AM

This was what I had in mind. Make a myspace for a fake generic indie-emo-whatever band but upload crude recordings of people jacking off over 909 beats. But now there's a e-paper trail and it can be traced back to this forum so I have to kill you all.

Eliminator 09-30-2006 02:54 PM

I'm the fat bald white guy in the red shirt who looks like that one MTV VJ with the raspy voice that all the stuck-up pop stars talk down to because he looks really dumpy and out of place in their world of surreal over-glossed drugs, sex and autotuners. I'm thinking of using this picture as a passport photo.

Robert Crumb 09-30-2006 03:13 PM

Ok, I lied. I'm actually the black guyyy

Glitterati 09-30-2006 05:33 PM

Fake generic indie-emo-whatever bands are so 2002, I'm talking extreme avant-garde noise so wierd the kids would like it just because it's so wierd. The image of the band would be totally mysterious and there would be almost no info available, except for loose rumours about the band being japanese, the band members being hardcore mental patients and that the band won't sign to a label because they fear contact with other humans. There wouldn't be an offical website or myspace, just word of mouth and maybe fansites.

But yeah tracing is a problem.

Glitterati 09-30-2006 05:57 PM

It's a cool idea at least. But I'm constantly impressed by the depths internuts go to bunk these kinds of these things. Like that Lonelygirl **** that was a lead-in for a movie. If people really care about something, they get obsessed and ****. It has to really be an individual effort; see: Jandek. One of us should do it and not tell the rest. And if it got any traction, it would be cool to see if it ever reached here.

And as for the picture, I'm not in it. I'm the one who took it. So technically, I'm the flash on the fire extinguisher sign.

Edit: and also, I already put up a picture of myself once.

Eliminator 09-30-2006 07:10 PM

i think i saw it in the sexiest alt/indie one or whatever

unless that wasn't you

Robert Crumb 09-30-2006 07:17 PM

That's the one. I really don't have any pics of me expect maybe like one or two others. I'm afraid it will steal my soul, so I stand behind it. Anyone wanna see more TVotR pics?

Eliminator 09-30-2006 07:27 PM

Yes. More pictures.

Robert Crumb 09-30-2006 07:52 PM

Sorting through the pile for a couple good ones I can resize and up, it'll be a minute. They played with a band called The Ohsees who were kinda neat, Beat Happening-The Monks-VU stuff, nice head bobbing rock. I thought they were going to break into a cover of "We Do Wei Du" at one point. I kinda wanted to buy a CD, but all I had was gas money.

Robert Crumb 09-30-2006 08:44 PM

Here are four, everyone but the bassist. He was hiding in the corner. I'll post a couple more later.
