Did anyone want to hear what Necro sounds like?
|
Yeah, I'd like to. I've looked at some reviews of his stuff, and it sounds..interesting.
Are you a Tony Hawks' Player?
Not since THPS 2. |

What about the underground **** like Necro, Jedi Mind Tricks and Louis Logic
|

Gangster's Paradise is frickin' awesome.
The only rap song I REALLY like is that^. I mean, I can listen to some rap, but not alot. Except for that song that is, it rules :thumb: |
What about the underground **** like Necro, Jedi Mind Tricks and Louis Logic
All of them have been mentioned before. Jesus. Funny how you're trying to tell some users here something about underground rap. We mentioned Necro. We mentioned JMT, and Louis Logic as well - talking about the Demigodz. |
Any Handsome Boy Modeling School fans?
Prince Paul and Dan The Automator both kick my ***. Definitely. Their song with Encore - from Executive Lounge (great ****ing group, if you're interested in them, I can send some stuff, it's laid back west coast underground stuff, rather obscure to some) - called Waterworld is amazing. Did anyone actually check out any mp3s that I posted? |
I had most of them already
|
I might have missed it, but for beats, I havnt seen Scott LaRock (sp?) mentioned yet-boogie down productions. And I saw Jedi Mind Tricks and they were **** good the other day. Anybody here like Doctor Octagon/Kool Keith or whatever alias you want to go by. Also has anybody ever listen to Jayo Felony?
|
Its just "gangsta" rap which has really lost the essence of rap. No one says anything in gangster rap, its just bigging each other up...
|
I love Slick Rick
|
Gang Starr. Have they been mentioned?
|
i am not gonna be mean or anything about this but i rly do think the ppl who said that rap was only singing about money women and sex and so on well they are right but i gues its a style of music and i dont think i will listen to it... i just hate it i hate their topics i wish theyd change it but otherwise like i cant say nething bad.. bye bye

 You are like a walking stereotype. |
Gang Starr. Have they been mentioned?
I don't think so but good thing you did. I don't really know much of their stuff, but I do know that "The Miltia" is fucking sweet. "One of us, equals many of us/ Disrespect one of us, and you'll see plenty of us."- such a good line. Guru's Jazzmatazz is not bad either. |
I just saw that in a Virgin megastore for £5 a couple of days ago. Should I buy it?
|
Yeah, it's a good album. When I first heard No Time To Play, I picked it up.
As for Afu Ra! I like his first album, he always had something about him. His second album wasn't up to scratch though. Also looked like a guy from Oz. Anyway, he was good on the JTD albums aswell. As for me being corrected on the issue of Groups not playing their own instruments. I'm aware of that fully and also that Rap is a HUGE sampling industry. Do I have anything else to add? Oh yeahhhh, check out Blak Twang! |
Well, I must agree to a certain extent. It was all fine until you said something about African culture being related to rap. You want REAL African culture? Listen to the Blues. The Blues came out in the 1930s and was based on field and sorrow songs used to convey their saddness as they slaved away for our Caucasion race. Rap is by far NOT African-American Culture. I need to strongly disagree with that, as I just did a research paper on Jazz and it stated the thesis above. THAT'S ALL!
|
Blues became jazz, jazz became beat poetry, beat poetry became rap.
Nice try, but you fail. |
It annoys me how little some people know about rap.
"IT'S ALL MANUFACTURED, NO TALENT REQUIRED, *SNORT SNORT SNORT*, ALL RAPPERS ARE GAY LOL" A lot of rap is very personal, check out Public Enemy, the best rap group of all time, (ever, no buts) |
Who is your favorite battle rapper?
Mine is probably Copywrite. He writes such good punch lines. |

They were way too political. Agreed about them being the best rap group ever, though. |
AHAHAHAH, I wonder how many people here who are being polite, talked about how much they hate rap in other threads.
|
I think rap takes much talent to make and perform. It's just that I can't listen to it. I don't hate it but I would rather be listening to metal or hardcore.
id rather listen to rap than most hardcore |

Jazzmatazz is pretty cool, definitely worth checking out if you can get it for a reasonable price. But it's no substitute for a Gang Starr album. |
This is cool how the purpose of the thread has changed direction into a huge "What I've been listening to lately" for rap purposes. And the fact that its right in the middle of R&M is even cooler.
|
Well, they're extremely well known in underground circles, sooo.
I like some early Necro, not much But it's quite enjoyable at times. Non-Phixion isn't bad, but msot of their stuff sounds the same and is rather tiring/generic. Not bad, though.
ive also noticed this, but i love the way they take beats from other well known songs and make their lyric magic on them.
Necro is out of his mind. My Sweet Dreams is my favorite track from him. Do you like Non-Phixion?
havent really had a chance to look too much for his stuff yet, as i went after gore tex first. |

And black culture expresses itself with hip-hop. Hip-hop is the modern day black subculture. Rap - and other elements - is used by the people that live that culture to express themselves. If you don't think that the Black Star album is the embodiment of a culture in music. I feel sorry for you.
Blues became jazz, jazz became beat poetry, beat poetry became rap. Nice try, but you fail.
Actually. Blues became rythm and blues. Rythm and blues became reggeae. Reggae became rap. DJ Kool Herc was a reggae DJ before he invented hip-hop. Rapping was around in the early 1900s when black slaves protested by rapping their protest songs. Some country singers rapped, too. It was before beat poetry. |

Kosta: I'd like to think funk had some influence on rap.
