Pretty Boy Floyd.

snakebite 06-27-2005 04:57 AM

Michael Monroe does the same thing, but in all fairness Hanoi were more Glam Rock than Hair Metal, they just had a pretty 80s look to them.

Motley get credit because they were awesome for what they did. As much as I love Lynch (and Dokken in general, think what they could have been like with a decent singer), the Crue epitomised S+D+R&R way, way more than Dokken ever did. They never set out to be the most talented band on the Strip (neither did Poison or Autograph for that matter), but they were great for who they were.

I discovered Pretty Boy Floyd the other day, got Size Really Does Matter, which was ok. But yesterday I got Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz. Oh dear god. Such insane amounts of awesome.

SonOfTheBeast 06-28-2005 02:45 AM

The Crue kicked some serious ***, but most fans after 1989 became fans because "The Dirt". That book was awesome, though. They were credited for hair metal because of all the hair metal bands, Motley Crue was the most notorius, wild and unpredictable.

Long live Mick Mars!

snakebite 06-28-2005 03:22 AM

He's an awesome guitarist, totally underrated.

live theory 06-28-2005 08:27 AM

Motely Crue, Twisted Sister, poison, Kiss, DEf leppard, they are all awesome. I think the period of hair/glam metal was awesome.
Would AeroSmith be hair/glam metal?
oh, and another hair and glam metal, Whitesnake, and Ufo. They were the best there was at that time.

snakebite 06-28-2005 08:38 AM

No way, Aerosmith really hated all those guys.

Watch Decline of Western Civilization II, they're quite against it.

snakebite 07-01-2005 03:35 AM

I just reviewed the Crüe's misunderstood Generation Swine, go nuts foxxe.
Cool. I'll definitely give those tracks a listen.

Jon 07-07-2005 02:03 PM

Eww 90s Crue

ITT I'm changing the rules of this thread, because I'm god and I can do what I want
ITT you can now discuss 'glitter' rock (the original glam rock) like Bowie, T Rex and what not

Just keep it straight guys.

I'm watching Velvet Goldmine and I totally want to go 70s Glam :)

"5150" 07-07-2005 04:38 PM
Eww 90s Crue
Yeah I must admit it's nowhere near as good as 'classic' Crue. 00s Crue isn't too bad mind.

stevo_13 07-07-2005 04:44 PM

The only good hair metal band is Skid Row, end of story.

"5150" 07-07-2005 04:54 PM
The only good hair metal band is Skid Row, end of story.
Not true. There are plenty of Hair Metal bands that rule. I like both Motley Crue and Skid Row, but i'd say Crue are alot better in every way.

Could Extreme be considered as Hair Metal?

hethamulburton 07-07-2005 05:12 PM

This isnt much of a thread, if all you do is bicker about who is and isnt a hair metal band. Honestly, anybody who was a guy and dressed in makeup and chics clothes is a hair band. Now if Extreme dressed like that then yes they are.
Other bands that fit this description:
Lynch Mob, Poison, Skid Row, Kiss, Motley, Ratt, Def Lep, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, and so on and so forth. Literally ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jking3002 07-08-2005 11:05 AM

Some of the guitar work on Pornograffiti is amazing, esp. on the tracks Lil Horny Jack, Decadance Dance, and Pornograffiti, nice riffage in those songs.

Jon 07-08-2005 03:35 PM
Ewww, ur ghey.
I watched Velvet Goldmine last night, don't get me started :upset:

Hey kid, want me to get into a dissertation on the differences between Glam and Hair Metal ;)

Yeah, I don't think we should be a-bickering about genre differences. Skid Row really weren't so glam and hated being labelled as glam, but for this thread they might as well be.

I'm going glam clubbing tomorrow night with two really hot chicks  (I think the Tube is back and working)

Now digging: Loud N Nasty, Crue, Warrant, Hanoi

Dead By X-Mas is so good :)

Jon 07-08-2005 04:35 PM

Who?

Jon 07-08-2005 04:38 PM

SCREAM FOR ME NEC

(you were supposed to say Crue :()

The chorus of Dead By X-Mas is like...wow. WhistleXcore.

You guys remember Noku? He knows fucking Michael Monroe :(

Jon 07-08-2005 04:42 PM

I'm going to stay with him (in Helsinki) for a few weeks next year or maybe in the winter (but isn't Finland + Winter = death?)...

So, you guys like the older stuff then?
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
How about this one? This is for the hardcore fans only...
FRANKIE DIED JUST THE OTHER NIGHT, SOME SAY IT WAS SUICIDE
BUT WEEE KNOWWWW, HOW THE STORY GOESSSSS
WITH HIS SIX STRING KNIFE AND STREET WISE PRIIIDE

god that was a good night, well worth trekking cross country and paying maybe £100 all in all for.

"5150" 07-08-2005 04:45 PM
I had Pornograffitti on all last night - fantastic album. Nuno Bettencourt is my new favourite latino.
Yeah definitely. They came onto the scene at the wrong time unfortunately for them. A very underated band in my opinion.

I'll check it out

flyhalf 07-08-2005 06:45 PM

My bassist is making our band go to a crue concert in december for 'inspiration', not that i'm complaining or anything :thumb:

Didn't motley crue work with simple plan lately? (that song "if i die tomorrow" sounded quite a bit simple planish, i heard it was made from leftover simple plan riffs)

Jon 07-09-2005 06:04 AM
Staying with Michael Monroe I hope.
No you idiot, staying with Noku and hanging out with the whole Helsinki Glam scene. I should meet McCoy and Monroe

late edit: compare the intro of Cheyenne by Hanoi (on Back to Mystery City) with Don't Cry.

Spooky.

hethamulburton 07-09-2005 11:41 AM

It's shocking.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

hethamulburton 07-09-2005 03:29 PM

Its 5 chords Am Dm G C B But it's okay I understand.
Just being a dumbass.

hethamulburton 07-09-2005 07:54 PM

Mossy 07-10-2005 10:07 AM

Vain were the best hair metal act !

Jon 07-10-2005 03:12 PM
Its 5 chords Am Dm G C B But it's okay I understand.

Nah, it just sounds overly similar to Cheyenne.

Earlier I also decided that One In A Million sounds a lot like a Hanoi track, I've forgotten which.

I went to the Intrepid Fox then Decadence last night, had the best time I can remember for a long while. I was in with all the people I aspire to be like, I learned a hell of a lot about the music beusiness, and I leaerned how incredibley naive about the whole rockstar shindig I am. I was also chatting to people about fucking Poison, Seduce, Odin and Warrant. People just like me (but just old enough to be my parents), who know what they're talking about.

It was incredible to think that there were 200 people in this club as passionate about such a niche as me.

NP: Home Sweet Home demo

Jon 07-11-2005 11:54 AM

I was just talking to my friend, naming people I met on Saturday night. Turns out I met the chick who got her tits out on the Jonathan Ross Show for the Crue.

She was really nice, we were singing along to the Crue and L.A. Guns together

Jon 07-12-2005 04:07 AM

Hehe.

I met (another) legend \:D/

brettberry 07-13-2005 04:31 PM
I thought glam was Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, etc.
lol
Glam is Hair Metal with its dick chopped off and extra 4 coats of lipstick.

hethamulburton 07-13-2005 06:14 PM

Elton John could qualify for glam, not metal, but glam.

Jon 07-14-2005 03:02 AM

That's because Elton owns

"5150" 07-14-2005 05:09 AM
Elton John could qualify for glam, not metal, but glam.
Is being a poofder glam though?

Jon 07-16-2005 04:39 AM

Oh god.

Loud 'N' Nasty.

Dream Evil + Ratt - dragon imagery + spandex

www.loudnnasty.com

acefrehleyjendell 07-16-2005 06:06 AM

Learned Round and Round by Ratt on guitar today, i feel so proud. :thumb:

Jon 07-16-2005 07:30 AM

Good song.

You guys heard anything from Collage? Its not bad, its less cheesy than Out Of The Cellar

PrimalScream 07-16-2005 09:37 PM

The Crue was great. Mick wasn't the best guitarist technicly, but his riffs were great and he has a good understanding of theory. He wasn't playing to show off but he made the songs sound great. Skid Row and Bon Jovi are good too. So was White Lion. They were very underrated

Jon 07-17-2005 05:42 AM

Guess who's in with the london glam scene and apparently in a glam band

Has anyone heard a song...I have no idea what its called or who its by...it was sort of modern sounding glam, you know what I mean...and like...it was namedropping all different bands. The only lyric I can remember was something like "Guns N' Roses...Motley Crue...and SKID ROW RULE" or something like that. I also remember it mentioning Kickstart My Heart and Cherry Pie...

Any guesses what it was?
