Rancid - Burn
The song starts out with a very raw feel to it. It feels cheaply made, something I actually really like in pop-punk/punk songs. The verse is kind of quiet actually until the joint vocals come in. I like that part a lot, the bassline sounds very nice and Tim's vocals are standard Rancid The chorus was disappointing to me. I know Rancid can get away with completely repetitive lines, but still it feels like they didn't put much effort into it and gave it one cliché line. When the verse kicks in, what do we find? The same lines from the first verse. The only thing that kept me from falling asleep from this was the little guitar melody after the verse, which is quite good. Then it builds up a little, and heads straight into the chorus with just a bassline and drums, then guitar comes in. Then we get the verse again. In the end, this is one of the worst Rancid songs I have ever heard. I know they are one of the biggest punk bands to grace my ears, but this is a horrible protest song with about 3 sentences in total. The music again wasn't up to Rancid's potential, and often left me bored and hoping, no, praying something good was coming. Sadly, I was let down by them 3/10 Selection up soooooooooon |
That's an amazing song. So catchy.:eek: |
Kif is hard to please music wise.

The Quiet Screaming by The Legion Of Doom
8/10. The beginning fits quite well, adds a more "emotional" feeling to it. I like. The beginning of the verse is overpowered by Chris Carabba, the only part I dont like that much. The second half of the first with Brand New is basically the same, and I still love it. The first chorus is also basically the same, and I still love it. The second "verse" has the quiet theme going on with it, which is great, and fits well with the song. It also leads up into the explosion of an outro, which is my favorite part of the song. I've heard the SF/TBS mix of these guys and they seem promising. Check this out: They're a local band from my area, very amazing. They just made a video which should hopefully find its way onto MTV2/FUSE. Anyone listen to the song I put up yet?
|
I can't believe I am giving up Cartel for this!
Blessings and Burdens - Never Bled Like This It starts out with feedback, then goes straight to the full band. I can't say I'm a fan to be honest. The music sounds messy although the drumming is really good (Pretty much the only thing that is in hardcore bands). The vocals are horrible really. I can't stand bands which just scream. Later, it slows down a little, and the guitar work gets a little more technical. Sadly, this is ruined by the vocals again. Then it slows down majorly to a clean guitar and the bass drum playing. Now there's singing, which is actually quite good. I liked this part of the song, it gives it a much needed melodic feel. The lead guitar sounds amazing over the clean guitar. The singer's voice is incredibly strong as he shows. The song then builds back into the full hardcore band with a screaming vocals which change to singing later. I think this sounds really great as well, the music is fantastic and is the perfect borderline between pop-punky riffs and over-distorted hardcore riffs. About 3:43, the song changes again, this time with a distorted riff playing. Drums come in, and the song heads back into the dark mood that was present from the start of the song. I liked this bit, the music managed to make the screaming much more meaningful and not as messy as when the song started. Overall, I misjudged this straight away. What began as another pathetic attempt at a "hardcore screamo" clone transformed into a band which showed a melodic side and then managed to pull off the screamo part much better. I liked this song actually, it had a lot of different sides to it and I liked the fact that it wasn't simply verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. 8/10 Mine will be up shortly |

The intro is good the singer is a little too breathy for me. The guitars are great. The music is good, I don't like the singer too much, but once he starts to sing instead of whisper he's ok. The melodics of the voice are good, but when he whispers I don't like it. The instruments are all very good. Then he starts to scream. which completely feels unneeded, and it completely ruins it for me. Overall this is an ok song.

recomendations?

sorry about that I got kicked off the internet after I posted that
And Grateful Dead, reviews are made from peoples take on the song, I didn't like it and if you did good for you. Hot Hot Heat You Owe Me An IOU Keane This is the Last Time Madness Our House YSI won't work for me right now so I can try to post links later but I won't be home till Thursday, so I'll try again later |
Grateful meant that you didn't put that much effort into the review. It seems like you didn't describe the song, and for a 5 minute song, you could at least give details about different parts of the song. You know, parts you liked and disliked, what made them good and what could make them better?
Anyway, just some thoughts Holy crap when did Grateful get his 2001 status! |
Bah since he's clearly not bothering with uploading a list just take another of mine

Over It - Siren On The 101
Starts off with a faint guitar riff and then kicks right into singing. It is a typical pop punk song throught the frist verse. It picks up for the chorus. The chorus is more enjoyable then the verse. Then another verse like the first, then the chorus again. Tehn it brakes down w/ a different singer and a faint guitar riff. Then it kicks in a little harder then the rest of the song. There is a nice little drum fill and then it slows down. The lead singer sings w/ just guitar and a faint violin playing. Then it goes into the chorus once again. It ends with a snare drum fill and the singer saying "Let me go!" Armor for Sleep - Dream to Make Believe
Well people talk about this band a bit, but I've never heard any of their stuff, so I have kinda high expectations, we'll see how it's met ;) Starts out laid back for about 2 measures, then distortion comes on, same riff again. Singer sounds a little bit like the guy from Thursday I think, but not as good. In fact this sounds pretty similar to Thursday to me as far as it all goes. Not as good though imo. I actually don't like the singer that much, he's not a bad singer, but his voice just isn't quite right I don't think. It's a little bit on the generic side, but so is most of this style of music, so that's ok. I think I'd listen to this with a different vocalist, but the current one isn't my style really. There was some depth in the music, but it could have done more with vocal harmonies. I also couldn't really hear the bass, it could be mixed higher. Drums and guitar were good and fit the style fine. 7/10 Rcommendations coming. |

Five Iron Frenzy - Cool Enough For You
The song starts with some pretty cool horns, and after the intro it comes an also cool bass line with the usual skankin guitar around there. So the vocals enter not much later. I don't really like the vocals, but they're not bad. The song goes on with the same bass line, vocals and the horns in a repeated verse thing, and then a chorus when vocals and horns change a bit. The song goes on like this until it suddenly stops. Then the guitar enters palm muting, followed by the bass and then the horns. Until then I thought...It says ska/punk, when is punk coming here? And then the guitar kicks in with the distortion and the bass line changes while the vocals go on a catchy lalalala. It is a good song, but I've heard much better ska songs. Overall... 7.5/10 My recommendations (they are coming): Toy Dolls - Tocatta In D Moll (Bach cover :)) (Classical/Punk) The Filaments - Bastard Coppers (Street punk with horns) this band is also known as awesomness in a bottle. I'll try it, It will be very bad. So someone else should do it to.
EDIT: dibs... |
The Filaments-Bastard Coppers
The intro is nice. I like how it starts with everyone playing, then just the cymbal tap and the very nice horns. That continues for two measures, I believe. The singer reminds me very much of the lead singer for the Descendents. I think the ska guitar rythm is cool. The verse makes me want to dance. The refrain is alright, not my favorite. They could use more words for the refrain, instead of just Bastard Coppers. But the horns in this song are very good. The little solo/bridge is cool. I would want to learn it on guitar. The part where they just say Fuck the pigs is cool. It reminds me of when everyone would just start screaming it at the top of their lungs. Overall I like this song. Its reminiscent of two-tone ska and street punk, like Albert said. I really like the drum beat, it reminds me of a jazzish beat. I would give it a 8/10. Is that a good review? If so, recommendations coming soon. Amber Pacific-For What Its Worth(harder pop-punk, I think.
