"Black Dwarf", eh? Looks like I'm shellin' out the 18 bucks for the new Candlemass.
it's worth it, i got sent it a couple months back to review, and i love it, it ain't as good as some of their stuff, but certainly has enough for the fan..

joebass 04-15-2005 08:22 PM

I can never get enough of Kyuss, Clutch, High On Fire or The Obsessed.
All fantastic bands with such love for music

Werny 04-15-2005 11:24 PM

The only band described here (including Kyuss) that I've heard is Melvins. I had Pigs of the Roman Empire, and I've downloaded about a gazillion songs. Truly genius, I don't know about any of you guys but I've never heard anyone drum with so much force as Dale Crover, the guy is a madman.

So I have no idea what Doom is (yousendit don't work for me), except that Fantomas are described by AllMusic.com as Doom Metal. I also tend to like gothic music (gothic like The Cure, not gothic like Cradle of Filth), so I may have to try some of this stuff out.

PaulRawNerve 04-16-2005 03:29 AM

i can't believe i forgot to mention the Melvins!!
'houdini' is a work of genius all the way through.

Jondur 04-18-2005 03:01 AM

Paul as in ex-Tangaroa?

Just back from Doom Shall Rise. Am far too tired to type any more. Full details and possibly audio in a few days!

Shred Danson 04-18-2005 09:02 AM

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while.

So has anyone gotten the new Corrosion of Conformity CD, yet? It's called In The Arms of God. The lead single, "Stone Breaker" is alright, just not classic COC. I could care less for the drums, as well.

Jondur, does your band have a CD or any of that out?

Jondur 04-18-2005 09:22 AM

Yep. the new one is called "Different Ways To Be Haunted" - 3 tracks of doomy goodness. Check out the track on www.soundclick.com/theriver If you like send me an email on jonathon_gibbs@hotmail.com and I can give you ordering details.

Bartender 04-18-2005 09:24 AM

I still have to send you a cheque for a copy of that. Sorry :-/

Bitchin'. So it's just an EP? Yeah, I'll e-mail you when I move into my house this week, alright?

I will email you my new address - don't send anything to that address as I move at the end of the week.

Can someone upload the first song off the Etheral Mirror by Cathedral?
:D
(By the way, fecking love doom metal :thumb: )

Give me Beer 04-18-2005 09:45 AM

Has anyone heard the new Om CD yet ( Variations on a Theme ) ? I'm pretty excited for it, but I haven't been able to get it yet. I've heard a few samples from it, and it sounds really Dopesmoker/Jerusalem'ish , but sans-guitar with cooler vocals.

Jondur 04-19-2005 07:12 AM

A couple of pics from Doom Shall Rise (there's bound to be loads more when other people get stuff developed):

...

wow, listening to 'a close study' now by your band, Jondur, sounds mint, really really top stuff, am liking it a lot in fact. great hybrid of nice and heavy, The Gathering meets My Dying Bride!

gonna tell people on our forum..

Shred Danson 04-25-2005 09:35 AM

/saves thread

I really have nothing to contribute...I've heard the new High on Fire, sounded like Classic HoF. I'm still listening to the new Corrosion of Conformity CD. I just don't like the drums on that CD for some reason...

joe_fresh 04-25-2005 10:05 AM

anyone else heard pelican's australasia? I suppose its stoner/doom, instrumental. I highly recommend it, if you havent already heard it

PaulRawNerve 04-25-2005 10:39 AM

it's fantastic.. the second song on there, 'drought', is a masterpiece!

joe_fresh 04-25-2005 11:18 AM
it's fantastic.. the second song on there, 'drought', is a masterpiece!
Yeah, i agree, i reckon thats their best song as well

josh959 04-25-2005 11:22 AM

my fave stoner rock has got to be QOTSA

Shred Danson 04-25-2005 01:08 PM
my fave stoner rock has got to be QOTSA
Their new stuff was highly dissappointing, man. I loved listening to songs like "Tension Head", and for a while it made me proud that a local band was getting so much attention, but Lullabies to Paralyze was just too...boring for me. I couldn't get into it.

The 1st album was by far their best and rated r and songs for the deaf weren't bad. What i have heard of their stuff is pretty piss poor.

beaNN 04-27-2005 04:23 AM

I like Doom Metal, although I havent actually heard that much of it apart from My Dying Bride.

yog_sothoth 05-01-2005 06:11 PM

well im no expert but its a genre i enjy and if anyone could reccomend me some bands which might lead on from the likes of neurosis (sovereign era), my dying bride etc....

http://www.freewebs.com/breathemachine/
if you like neurosis have a listen to pelican or cult of luna, they both sound vaguley similar to eye of the storm by neurosis.

I also recommend doomsword, orodruin and reverend bizzare

thundercross 05-06-2005 08:13 AM

I was to lazy to read every page in this thread but is there any one that's in to Blind dog, EYEHATEGOD, grand magus, Down, or crowbar. I consider these guys the real stoner/Doom metal bands, if there's one or more you have never heard of check em' out they kick alot of A S S.

Jondur 05-06-2005 08:30 AM
I consider these guys the real Doom metal bands
Then you're wrong.

3rdplanet 05-06-2005 08:37 AM

Neurosis aren't Doom are they?

Very good though.

Bought a Corrosion of Conformity CD the other, so good.

I think I'm gonna go on a bigger stoner rock buying spree.

Bartender 05-06-2005 09:13 AM

Which CoC album did you get?

Shred Danson 05-06-2005 09:14 AM

I suggest you read the first few pages of the thread.

EYEHATEGOD, Down and Crowbar, as much as I like them, aren't doom. They're more of a harder southern rock genre. I describe them as Southern rock with a heavy metal sound. Corrosion of Conformity could fall into the same catergory; they fuse punk, metal, and southern rock into their music. What COC CD did you get, 3rdPlanet?
The 1st album was by far their best and rated r and songs for the deaf weren't bad. What i have heard of their stuff is pretty piss poor.
Yeah, I agree. I keep hearing people call this QOTSA's "second album" and it pisses me off. Most people who are into QOTSA nowadays probably haven't even HEARD rated R.

Bartender 05-06-2005 09:16 AM

Rated R is the only album of theirs I actually own. I never got into it that much, but it's alright.

Shred Danson 05-06-2005 09:20 AM

I'll tell you one thing, it's way better compared to Lullabies.

Bartender 05-06-2005 09:21 AM

Well I've not heard Lullabies.., so I couldn't say. I've heard the first one, and Songs for the Deaf thanks to friends and sister, though. Maybe just because I own it myself, but I preferred Rated R.

Shred Danson 05-06-2005 09:24 AM

I actually live in the city Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri were from. I point that out all the time, but hey...if somebody else lived in some famous band's hometown, I'm sure they'd point it out as well.

I still can't get over how much the drums suck on COC's "Stone Breaker".

Crysiss 05-06-2005 10:13 AM

i never heard of most of the bands mentioned lol

Jon 05-06-2005 10:15 AM

Here's a vintage JDZ song. 18 months ago I really sucked at guitar :(

(The Exodus)
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/fiendukmusic.htm

Doom enough?

RockerGav 05-06-2005 12:05 PM

Jondur: I listened to A Close Study, its very good. How much is your 3 track EP?

Also, can you reccommend some similar sounding Doom bands?

I really enjoyed the track by Gates of Slumber that you posted, and I downloaded a couple of Candlemass songs (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus and The Bells of Acheron), didn't really take too much to them (yes blashphemy, I know), probably because of the vocal style.

3rdplanet 05-06-2005 12:06 PM
Which CoC album did you get?
I bought Wiseblood, saw it going cheap so thought what the heck after having a few tracks downloaded may as well.

Shred Danson 05-06-2005 01:02 PM

Check out Deliverence and America's Volume Dealer. Good stuff by COC.

Jon 05-06-2005 01:19 PM

I like AVD :)

Shred Danson 05-06-2005 01:22 PM
I like AVD :)
That's probably my favorite by them.
