Darkness 01-01-2005 12:56 PM
It's Morello who writes what are known as the "riffs". Of course, Tim comes up with some nice stuff, like the Calm Like A Bomb intro and the bass in the Bullet In The Head verses, but its Tom who comes up with the killer riffs like those in Bombtrack and Testify.
Yes Morello comes up with most of the riffs they play together but apparently Zack came up with some of the less complex...like mabye the chorus to Bombtrack or something but something like Know your enemy is definatly Tom's work.

Rage Against the Nirvana 01-01-2005 01:14 PM

Tom is by FAR my favorite guitarist right now, well excluding the legends like Van Halen, and zakk wyld

Rasta Rocker 01-01-2005 01:16 PM

I hope audioslave starts to fail miserably so then maybe RATM can reunite

CaptainWaits 01-01-2005 01:46 PM

Yes I hope Audioslave fails miserably too!

Rasta Rocker 01-01-2005 03:19 PM

Anyone else hear Killing in the Name in GTA San Andreas?

newby noob squid 01-01-2005 04:26 PM

i think the self titled is the best album

Thor 01-01-2005 07:55 PM
Anyone else hear Killing in the Name in GTA San Andreas?
Yeah its great. Also relating to RATM, they play "How I Could Just Kill A Man" also, but it is the Cypress Hill version. It's still good though.
I hope audioslave starts to fail miserably so then maybe RATM can reunite
Sorry, it's not going to happen.

it's the cover from a Mudvayne album, if I'm not mistaken

EDIT: http://www.discographyguide.com/mudvayne/mudvayne-discography1030.html - that one

Rasta Rocker 01-01-2005 08:27 PM

"L.D. 50"

Something to do with a dose of something that proves to be lethal 50% of the time, if I'm not mistaken also.

That is correct, but why are we talking about Mudvayne in a RATM thread?

What ever happened to de la rocha's solo project?

munky_magik 01-02-2005 08:48 AM
Apparently he's still working on it, but he's released a few solo songs, such as March Of Death, which he collaborated with DJ Shadow on. That was only released over the Internet, and quite frankly it wasn't much good either....I can see it becoming a really prolonged album, that everyone wants to hear, but ultimately isn't much good.
*cough* Chinese Democracy *cough*

:shifty eyes:

flea_otherside 01-02-2005 09:21 AM

One of my favourite bands.

Self-titled is one of the best records I've heard, and I consider it their best.

Aye, I'll drink to that. :chug:

Bass_ment 01-02-2005 10:31 AM

My favourite band of all time. A huge inspiration for me politically, in bass playing (gotta love the Timmy C groove), and in general.

Favourite Album: s/t
Favourite Songs: Freedom, No Shelter, Darkness,
Underrated Songs: Ashes in the Fall, Settle for Nothing, Tire Me
Favourite Werid Morello solo: Bulls on Parade
Favourite Classy Morello solo: Darkness or Freedom

So how many people here have the Live and Rare album? Where did you get it?

rage_atm 01-02-2005 12:17 PM

<---------- if you can't tell, i really like rage. both my accounts got the same picture.
:D:D

I think it is, just the name resembles somethin else, or maybe it resembles the pic., just of somethin i'm not familiar with
I hope audioslave starts to fail miserably so then maybe RATM can reunite
Noway man. Rage is my fav band ever...but I do not hope Audioslave breaks up, they still make awesome songs and musically Tom is improoving (even though his foot isn't on the whammy pedal every 2 min...) RATM was amazing but its over and now they offer us Audioslave. I kindly except it for one.

munky_magik 01-03-2005 10:45 AM

If you all respect Tom, Brad, And Tim then saying you hope Audioslave fails is a bit dodgy IMO.

Darkness 01-03-2005 10:47 AM

Yes I agree with that last statement...hopefully in the new slave album Timmy C. and Brad will show us a better performance than the last, it was an average album for them two, but I think Tom did awesome.

Thor 01-03-2005 03:41 PM

Audioslave just doesn't compare to RATM. Sorry to all, but I just had to get it out of my system. Although Tom Morello does not fail to impress me with his amazing guitar work.

munky_magik 01-03-2005 05:00 PM

Whilst we are unfortunately on the topic, To me Tom lost half of his innovativness in Audioslave. He mostly relied on effects for his solos and didn't really create anything new in any other way. His riffs were the only thing that remained good about him in Audioslave, and even they pale in comparison to those he did in RATM.

Now Please; NO MORE MENTIONS OF AUDIOSLAVE IN HERE!!

shortass 01-03-2005 05:08 PM

I think Morello is over-rated. I never saw the big deal about Morello.

munky_magik 01-03-2005 05:12 PM

For his time; he wrote great riffage and did brand new crazy whacked out shit on the geetar.

promqueen 01-03-2005 05:13 PM

The drummer, Unless I'm greatly mistaken

shortass 01-03-2005 07:03 PM

lol only member I don't know

/Goes and checks

Ah so he is...

munky_magik 01-03-2005 07:04 PM
He's the drummer for Rage...really underrated I think. Sure, he's not fast or anything like that, but in terms of his beats, and hip-hop influenced style, he's quite different from most rock drummers. And he works very well with Tim Commerford in the rhythm section.
Him and Timmy C always lay down a really solid Groove I think.they work great as a team and really lock in well together

CaptainWaits 01-03-2005 07:09 PM

^^deffinetly

Timmy C's a wicked bassist and Wilk gets to play a solid wicked groove all day (lucky b*tch)

IMO Brad Wilk was nothing special, even though I am a huge RATM fan. He did what needed to be done, but never really did anything that made my jaw drop.

CaptainWaits 01-03-2005 07:25 PM

^^yeh well he wasn't meant to do ne thing "amazing"

Just to keep a satisfied groove that fit, and he did a great job of it

Dude, besides on the self titled album all he did was use effects for solos...Besides Audioslaves album was recorded in a hurry he only had like 3/4's of a year to come up with riffs and solos...I bet you on the new slave album his solos will kick major ***...(sorry about bringing audioslave back)
