It's about a low-born French guy who has an exceptional sense of smell, but is born without a scent of his own (which disturbs other people), amongst many other problems. He becomes obsessed with smell, as you probably would in that situation, and spends most of his time chasing the perfect scent, which mostly involves killing women in an attempt to 'capture' theirs. The book, at least. |
That's the weirdest plot I have ever heard.
|
Sounds like a David Lynch film.
|
Really? Six String Samurai is still my favourite for the 'weird plot' bit.
|
Weirdest plots ever... I can't think of anything specific off the top of my head, but Young Einstein is pretty odd. And is Perfume by a French author?
|
'Tender: I was asking because I haven't seen it yet...it looks good though. I want to read the book.

German, I think. |
Lost Highway was bizarre, but brilliant. Anybody else see it?
|
I hate David Lynch. I haven't seen any of his movies for the last 4 years or so, so I'm sure that'd change, but, he just has this general aura of douchebaggery about him.
I just bought really expensive dress pants and an expensive dress shirt though, so im a douche too. |
And you say you don't have money to buy music!
|
And you say you don't have money to buy music!
I have money now, but normally I don't. I was saving for tuition (it's about 4500 for two semesters), but I found out yesterday that scholarships are covering about 4000 of that. I dont know the figures are off but basically I'm going to owe pretty much nothing. |
I got $60 tradin' in some cd's today, then I turned around and bought more cd's
|
I pay nothing for tuition either thanks to a scholarship paid for by the lottery.
|
You really won the lottery?
|
No :p
The lottery in Florida gives a bunch of money towards scholarships, and as long as you meet the requirements, you get full tuition for any Florida state school or an equal amount for any private Florida schoo. |
Ohhhh . Good deal, either way.
|
It was so easy to get scholarships. Get a 75+ and you get 1000, get an 80 and you get 1500, get an 85+ and you get 2000
I got 2000 the school for my marks, 2000 from the school based on need (im poor), and another scholarship is giving me 2000. So that's 6000/32000 Not bad, since I'll apply for more scholarships every year. |
I'm not going to college.
|
I'm not going to college.
Neither am I, I'm going to University. That's also a pretty hefty statement to make at 14. Give it a few years. It's not for everyone but dont rule **** out so early. |
I think the only area where Australia is somewhat disadvantaged, in terms of University, when compared to the States is money-wise. Because almost everyone does HECS, which means the government pays for us and we pay them back when we earn over a certain amount, interest free, none of the Universities really have the sort of ready cash that allows for multiple scholarships.

I get college level training through my 4 years of high school next year. At age 18 when I get out of high school, I will be able to have my own company. |

I'm getting money from the Government (way too much actually) but I have to pay them back. Our smaller universities arent government sponsored so the tuition for those is like, 50-60k. It's insane. |
Tuition for private schools around MA are upwards of 80k.

I'm not saying you have to, but to assume you're getting a university level education in high school is ridiculous. Plus are you getting a degree? Because sadly that piece of paper makes a lot of difference. |
No, it's a technical high school, hence, you get out of 12th grade and can go right out on to the job without a degree.

But that would more or less lead to apprenticeships rather than university anyways. We have technical schools here but, like, okay. You can't go to Central Tech here and study robotics and graduate to work for a huge robotics firm. |
Technical schools might give you the tools, but unfortunately companies like to see 4 year degrees.
