That was pretty cool shizzy. Looking forward to hearing final versions when you get a vocalist.

I'm trying to get a band started with my friend. So far it's only been us jamming/writing stuff on our own, but we did record some stuff, like this:

Only guitar and drums in that recording.
Generally when girls are vocalists I will never listen to that particular band again.
That's silly. Plenty of bands have awesome female vocalists.

Flagjacket 10-27-2007 07:07 PM

more like two

The Arcade Fire and Yeah Yeah Yeahs come to mind, but after that, I'd have to think for a bit.

More like I Object and This Is My Fist because the Arcade Fire's singer is a dude and they suck.

Flagjacket 10-28-2007 04:03 PM

are there any bands in this thread that didn't take their name/total aesthetic from an 80's hardcore band.

answer is no

El_Shiznit 10-28-2007 07:18 PM

You say that like it's a bad thing.

You won't be sorry. Maybe. New recordings, mostly from practice. One live, one "studio." I play bass, by the way.

bodysnatcher 11-15-2007 09:53 AM

Not mine as in I don't play in the band but in any othe way...Hell yeah, love them to bits and you should too ;)

I hate street teams and bands with street teams, unless they're big enough that such a thing is worthwhile and practical.

Liebensaft 11-15-2007 07:59 PM

I love when the only post a member has in this thread.

hey, sorry to make this my first post, apparently thats not cool

im living in Ithaca NY right now, and the music scene in this town is completely stale and boring. too much jam rock, eight minute songs with looong pretentious guitar solos, etc. etc. or indie rocker outfits sound like they're taking estrogen

anyway, im putting a band together and I was wondering if anyone knew any central new york clubs/bars/whatever that was sympathetic to hardcore punk music

any help or recommendations much appreciated

Liebensaft 11-21-2007 07:23 PM

You probably won't have as much luck here as in the classified section. They should have pretty region-specific threads. I can't guarantee anyone will help in this thread, but they might there.

Flagjacket 11-21-2007 08:17 PM

if you can't find a hardcore scene in New York you probably live in a gated community and wear a blazer to school.

Liebensaft 11-21-2007 08:26 PM

Nah, I'm pretty sure Ithaca is a place notoriously full of hippies and the like. I could be wrong.

avant_tard 11-22-2007 12:10 AM

ahh yeah. fried out deadheads and the college kids with trust funds who love em. I dont mind the hippie vibe, but when I want to go to a show im not down with grateful dead tribute bands.

Flagjacket 11-22-2007 08:49 AM

I hate the BS Rolling Stone "The 60s were WAY better than any band now" standard white boy that populates my school.

But I mean, being round Central New York you probably know about bands coming out of Syracuse and stuff, I don't know how far apart Ithaca and Cuse are but Syracuse is a good bet for hardcore if memory serves me right.

Danger Bird 11-22-2007 04:16 PM

Yeah, I'm in a hardcore folk punk band, XblowingXinXtheXwindX

....

Danger Bird 11-22-2007 10:04 PM

Kevin you don't even understand our vision. Have you ever plugged an acoustic guitar into a distortion box? Have you ever screamed back-country harmonies against the fascist government?

Flagjacket 11-22-2007 10:10 PM

No but I've made a lot of bad jokes on the internet to know one when I see one.

Danger Bird 11-22-2007 10:19 PM

You don't make mistakes, you're killa kev!

Flagjacket 11-22-2007 10:20 PM

Hey this is the thread to talk trash about someone else's band.

AndNico 11-26-2007 07:42 PM

We're a mix between psychobilly, hardcore, punk, and basically everything else.

Liebensaft 11-26-2007 07:45 PM

I liked your band when I checked it out before, I remember.

shameless plug for my band:

http://www.myspace.com/thechineserockers

we're not really punk but this is one of the best Deutschpunk songs ever we're covering there.
