Hetfield: "St. Anger Sales Are A Bummer"
19 Nov 2003 Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently told US news agency Reuters that the sales of the band's latest album, 'St. Anger', which now total 1.5 million copies, are "a bummer".

"In Europe it's doing really good, and some other places," explained Hetfield. "It is what it is. We can't change that. We do our best and that's all we can do. It's a bummer,"

1.5 million? Most bands would give their right arm for sales figures like that in the US!

Metallica's motormouth drummer, Lars Ulrich, added that 'St. Anger' is the band's biggest album in Europe since 1991's 'Metallica'.

"'St. Anger' is a very challenging record," said Lars. "US rock radio programmers seem more interested in playing bands like Nickelback these days."

dude this is nothing BUT peoples opinions... they are speaking their minds and seeing what other people think about the subject, **** u think ur opinions are so much better?? why dont u **** off since u think ur tough ****.. let people post without getting ragged to ****, if they like metallica they say 'i like metallica' if they dont, they say they dont, let it be
But his opinions are much less narrow-minded than that prick who came in slagging people off for saying "I like Unforgiven2" or whatever. Since when does Chimaira EVER have a go at people for no reason? No, never.

Yea James Hetfield is an awsome musician, did u know he can play Drumms as well?, yea on the Bing & Purge DVD he has a Drum Duel with Lars, he was pretty good. He can play drums, guitar, he can sing and write songs...wow he can do everything!

I think it's silly that metallica is saying this, they do have enough money, but the only problem is they've been spoiled with too much money, so when they see they've had a decline in sales from their steady money they've generated (millions), it's gonna hurt them in some way, that's what we dont understand, and it sucks that they have be millionaires.

I think one of the major reasons st. anger didn't do well, is because of the album itself. The songs were mediocre, and the production was horrible. This could be a wake up call to metallica to start recording better albums and maybe return to a thrash state or put out a better songwritten album.

Wow, then maybe Lars should let him take over, since he sucks so much!

Anyway, history just keeps repeating itself. It's completely obvious that Metallica's upcoming CD, regardless of which music style it's gonna be (be it country, rap-rock or gospel) will sell millions, and no matter how unoriginal it will be or how much it might suck, it's gonna sell millions and there's gonna be lotsa noobs who think it's a masterpiece. Mark my words, even the ****tiest CD ever would sell millions, just for having "Metallica" written all over it.

Very good points.

I'm hoping (or guessing :upset: ) that the next cd (if there is one, most likely yes, and it will be the last one) will be something epic. like the black album or the thrash days. I can stand load/reload, but they aren't a BIG SOUND sorta album, if you catch my drift. I have a good feeling about the next album. Metallica is a smart band, they will shape up, i'm sure. They do like their fans no matter how filthy rich they are. I'm hoping the next album will be good. Thats all i can say. I belive it will be a mix probably. Songs similar to the stuff on load/reload, and a couple of good thrash songs, and to end it some of the black album tunes. Speaking of tunes, i think they will prolly switch back to standard, i'm guessing metallica will get sick and tired of playing in drop d. After this next cd, expect a huge box set with everything they've done. That, i'll buy for sure. But you know thats all imo (cept the box set, i'm sure they'll do that, no doubt)

Metallica man of bass 11-21-2003 10:36 AM

as much as i like st anger i think it was the worste album they eva brought out i want them 2 go back 2 the heavy ,long a*s*d solo songs that we all love

mister_riz 11-21-2003 11:12 AM

I'd like to see a hell of a lot more collaboration between bands/band members like Metallica. It happens in rap all the time and it really works well and sounds ace. For example imagine Metallica and Guns N Roses (original line up) working together for a song or album? It'd sound excellent and I dont see any reason at all why they cant.

superpeer 11-21-2003 11:14 AM

that wouldn't be metallica-ish :upset:

mister_riz 11-21-2003 11:19 AM

Yeh... thats a really good reason.... I'm convinced.

superpeer 11-21-2003 11:21 AM

this one is better anyway ^-^

RockerGav 11-21-2003 12:34 PM

To be honest, the only good performances there were Avril's band and Sum 41.

Yes, I did enjoy Avril's performance. Not because I think she's hot, far from it, but her band did it well, the guitarist played the solo and the cool riffs, the drummer was double pedalling, and Avrils voice wasn't THAT bad.

It was nice to see a band not totally ruin it.

superpeer 11-21-2003 12:42 PM

^

yep, Avril got flamed way too much for Fuel, just because she's Avril.

superpeer 11-21-2003 12:44 PM

By the way, Sum 41 , which song did they cover, I never saw them

Toozey 11-21-2003 12:48 PM
