I listened to the game. It sucks cause if I didn't figure out the notes fast enough I would get killed.
Seems like it must have taken quite a while to figure out then.

Funny Hetfield story too! :D
Castlevania IV or maybe Zelda Link to the Past. Zombie ate my Neigbhors? Yoshi's Cookie. Man, that's a tough one. A lot harder than those tapping questions. :D
The Megaman series back then were great. Also, no Final Fantasy? Not an RPG guy, I see :p.

And... how can you not like Wals :'(.

Saitoku 05-10-2005 08:27 PM

Hmmm... I don't know if this has been asked yet, but having grown up with an Atari I must inquire:

Jean, I've seen the Pac-man and the new Joust bass you're having built. Beautiful stuff. Any plans in the future for maybe an "Adventure" or a "Pitfall" bass?

ROM 05-10-2005 08:42 PM
He was sitting behind me at Denny's and I kept leaning over and going "Hey are you James Hetfield lead singer for Metallica?". Then he said he was a look alike. After about 5 times his girlfriend starting screaming at him and then he started saying stuff like "Hey shut up and eat your food", then I reminded him that we hadn't ordered yet. Then he started heckling us. I had to tell him to shut up and eat his food. I deserved it though. So no hard feelings. The things you do when you are 16. It's fun to heckle rock stars.

Okay, I think I got all the questions. Until next time!
YAY! I thought I was the only one who bug people for no apparent reason.

Jean I still cant see you as someone famous your too much like us.

one quick question if you dont mind, what makes you not be a complete *** like everyone else and all. (maybe I should rephrase) ... uumm what makes you keep a grip on reality and not fade out into this "im rich **** off people this is about me me me" then 10 years later become this huge coke addict and then sniff all your money away and blame the goverment?

rik 05-11-2005 05:10 AM

Best "ask a pro" yet.

Oh, man. The time I wasted playing Zombies At My Neighbors... that game always destroyed me. But speaking of Zelda, are you excited for the new, non-cell shaded GC one? It looks promising.

Edit: Also! What the heck is up with that cat on your webpage?

tatter3d 05-11-2005 07:21 PM

Hey jean, your an amazing bass player! and Nuclear Rabbit rule! cant wait til you play the UK (if you ever do) keep up the good work man

Yep i cannot wait, it looks like Ocarina of Time (which wa sby far the best one) :thumb:

But back to bass anyways :thumb:

sargentpilcher 05-22-2005 12:22 AM

I have a couple questions. What bass do you use on bowling for midgets? I love that bass line! another, is, what are the lyrics to the san francisco treat? In the vicuna booklet like half of them are blocked by a picture of some cool little rabbit drawings.

(Feels proud for knowing so much about nuclear rabbit :naughty: . I have all 4 albums. Been a fan since 2000. Right when you started up Element of Surprise. But was extremely glad to see you start Nuclear Rabbit up again and saw you live twice. I think I saw your guy's last show at the phoenix theater the day before Easter. Was that your last show?)

KEEP KICKING ASSS JEAN!!!!!

Jean Baudin 05-22-2005 02:55 PM
Have you ever tried the Tetris theme song? I've figured out the main melody, but I can't get the bassline simultaneously because I don't know much tapping. However, I was wondering if you've ever considered arranging it for yourself.
Yeah, I think I figured out Theme "A". The bassline is pretty easy though, it's only octaves... maybe it's a different one you are talking about?

Yeah, I like FF 3/6 too... I actually like the older ones better than the newer ones. I played quite a few of the RPGs for the SNES (Chronotrigger, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Evermore, etc). Never got into Megaman though.

As for Wals, I've never seen a 9-string Wal so if they made one maybe I'd be interested, but probably not as I've got plenty of basses already.

Esp Griffyn 05-22-2005 03:07 PM

Do you have some kind of Copyright on the design of the Pac bass so that it cant be replicated without your permission (Like Kirk Hammet and his "mummy" guitar), or would Bill Conklin Make a replica if the price was right?
then again, he may wish to not make a replica of it, like Carl Thompson with the imfamous "Claypool Rainbow bass" as he wants to never make a replica of an old bass...

Not that I want to steal your bass idea, but I was just wondering.

Thanks for your time : ) :chug:

hahaha... the graphics are too dreadful on Adventure or Pitfall for an inlay. I don't think that duck-looking dragon thing from Adventure would like nice on a fretboard.

I have more video game inlays planned - but you guys will have to wait until they are done to find out what they are. :D

The new Zelda looks great. He's like riding a horse and stuff. I'll definitely be getting that one (I'll have to rebuy a Gamecube for it though).

That's my cat. She likes to stare.

the bass I used on bowling for midgets in the ralph 5-string (there's a picture of it on my website). The lyrics for SF Treat were "censored" because we got too much crap from past reviews. Instead of writing out an explanation in the liner notes, we decided to just cover them up.

We actually played an unannounced secret show last night in Santa Rosa... but the last show last year was at the Whiskey in LA.

A lot of people have asked him to make another Pac-Man bass but he won't do it, because it's a one-of-a-kind custom. But I certainly don't own any rights to the little yellow guy, so nothing is stopping you from getting him inlayed on your bass from somebody else.

BTW, thanks to whoever put the Pac9 on the front page. Mucho gracias.

Wintermute 05-22-2005 03:36 PM
BTW, thanks to whoever put the Pac9 on the front page. Mucho gracias.
:D That was Subcontra. For some reason the guitar tabs had a guitar, the drum tabs had some drums, and the bass tabs had a microphone... so Subcontra showed the admin the Pacman bass and he loved it!
then again, he may wish to not make a replica of it, like Carl Thompson with the imfamous "Claypool Rainbow bass" as he wants to never make a replica of an old bass...
Actually, I think Carl Thompson has made replicas of Claypool's bass before now. Pretty accurate ones, as well. (money money money!)

Radiobass81 05-22-2005 05:45 PM

A "Super Bonk" inlay would rock.

Most underrated game for the SNES, definitely...

It is a MUST!
I'm doing it myself.. if I have enough money and my money isn't gone to band recordings and a new cabinet and a craploads of other things :D

Did I post here already? Uhm.. yeah once I think. But I don't have any questions I think. Just go out and buy the new zelda and the gamecube (and super smash brothers meelee)

PaulSimonon 05-23-2005 09:02 PM

Any rough dates on the new album?

Papa Shank 05-24-2005 05:06 AM

Jean, I've been linked to the talkbass forums, more specifically the threads about your numerous custom basses and just right now I've had a look at your signature Conklin 9 stringer, pretty retro.

You describe your 9 string Bee Bass as having more of a guitar feel to it, which is kind of funny because I've been describing my 9 in the works as a guitar with a bass feel to it. Anyway, at this point I'm going to ask who have you got currently making basses for you? And have you ever heard of Ergo Instruments ? The guy has built some pretty "interesting" basses in the past.

Andre_gt7 05-25-2005 10:35 AM

Jean, Another guy from TB here....how do you like using a wristband for muting the strings close to the headstock? i might do that myself ;)

tenorbass 05-25-2005 05:17 PM

hey again there jean i whanted to know more about the MIDI on your bass i forget witch one. like how does it work? how much $$$? is in just a pickup? does it go in the bass like a preamp? who makes it? thanks bro. P.S. i love the bee bass so much.
