Bright Eyes - Waste of Paint (6:29)

I've never really liked Bright Eyes, as I've only heard a few songs, so I decided to give this one a listen.

Starts out with an acoustic guitar. And it's the same throughout. There isn't much to review, so I'll go through what he talks about in the verses.

Verse one is about one of Oberst's friends that draws him a picture. Oberst tells him that it's really good but his friend denies and says that nothing beautiful could ever come from him. Second verse is about a woman that is in love with a man. Then she finds out that the man had lied to her, then she decides to spend the rest of her life alone. Third verse is about Oberst's brother getting drunk and driving, and he gets pulled over. Then he tries to get out of it, but the cop can't let him go.

Alright, there's a bunch more verses that all go on the same track. I guess I'm still not a Bright Eyes fan.

Strike Anywhere - Aluminium Union

Starts strong, with music thtat sounds like everything else on Exit English. It's pretty cool. The vocalist, although I find it hard again to decipher the lyrics, does a good job, combining the normal 'hardcore/punk rock' vocals with this emotional wail that makes it actually seem that he is passionate about whatever he is on about. The music is pretty cool aswell, but it's pretty samey when listened to alongside everything else on the album. But, a solid song overall, and well worth listening to.

Our Lady Peace - Innocent
It starts out with a slow drum beat, kinda distorted. Then the guitar and vocals come in. The vocals are quite strong, and the melody is nice and fitting to the slow feel of the song.

When the song goes into the full band, it doesn't really pick up momentum or anything. It kinda just drags on. The bass adds nothing new to the mix either

The second verse is OK. The vocalist's voice gets a little higher, which shows his emotion for the lyrics. The guitar picks up a new riff, a little heavier. It still feels like it's dragging out, and just building up to something not happening yet

The bridge again has the same drum beat, the same guitar melody, the same bassline. There's nothing new about this song now, it's been playing for 2 minutes and it's all the same! It then cuts into the chorus again. The lyrics are even repetitive now

Overall, I didn't like this song. It had a good and decent promise at the start, and it feels like it's building up to a real rock song. But it just disappoints. 3 minutes of the same riffs and beats, it's not that great to listen to. This might be one of the few MP3s I delete

:( My songs always fail :p

Motion City Soundtrack - Hangman

Starts of with some feeback and stuff, which slowly develops into a tune. Then the drum beat comes in , and the singer starts. His voice is OK, would be better without the excess effects and other stuff they've done to it. Sounds like a typical pop-punk tune, with some cool effects in it. There's a quiet bit later on, with the type of vocal effects that I think work well, then it goes back to how it was before. The production isn't very good, and they should've thought of a better hook. The actual song is good though, in some parts.

It's ok, not a patch on the material from I Am The Movie Though

I'd just like to point out that the effects are just a synth, and the vocals in the quiet part are done by none other than Mark Hoppus

That's it

Guns N' Roses - Rocket Queen
I'm not a huge fan, but I'll try out new music. It starts out with a nice steady tempo, the drum fill is simple and the guitar in the background is typical GNR from what I've heard. I like the riff when it builds up and then stops.

When the vocals come in, nothing really changes in the music, which is fine because I rather like the riffs and the drumbeats. The singing is great, and the usual GNR.

In the chorus, it sounds like they use effects on the vocals, and it sounds kinda funny. It doesn't sound professional at all. Then the bridge comes up, that adds a little bit of change to the song. The riff from the start it used again, and then changed while the solo plays over the top. You can hear moans every now and again, and it just sounds like a huge joke. Still really amazing music though

Around 3:30, the song takes a dramatic change. The drumming slows down and the guitar riff changes a lot, and it adds another nice mix to the song. Bearing in mind it's 6 minutes long, that's always good in long songs. The tempo dramtically changes, and so does the tone. It has a lot more melodic feel to it.

It slowly builds up in heaviness for about 2 minutes into another solo being played over the vocals just randomly saying "No" over and over. It's a great way to finish the song with a huge build up to the solo. This solo is a lot better than the one in the first bridge, and adds a little bit of a festive feel to it actually

Overall, I really liked this song. This is how a typical hard rock song should sound like I my opinion. Over-the-top vocals mixed with hard-hitting rhythm guitars, not to fast drumming and one of the best lead guitarists in rock playing 2 solos in a song. Superb

Bright Eyes - Poison Oak

My first Bright Eyes song i've heard, and it's ok.
It starts off very slowly and quitley with just acoustic guitar and soft bass it think, then the vocalist starts to sing, very softly, nice slow chord progressions, this goes on for a while, until about 2:38 when all the music comes in, the msuci is very nice, drums, and some wierd background music accompany the rest, it then goes slow agian, and acoustic for a short while before going back into the full music part, the outro is the acoustic guitar softly playing into fade.

Meh, 4/10 because i've heard better slow/acoustic stuff, and it's not my cup of tea...

I don't mean to be a bitch about this, but in your review you basically just described the song, and didn't really justify your final score. I know my reviews aren't exactly professional, but I just thought I'd say that

Butch Walker - Alicia Amesia

Hahaha, cool intro. Ba-tadatadaboomboom-BURN! Nice riff as well, even though that second guitar is kind of annoying. Lyrics seem typical pop-punk. That "she doesn't know my name" bit is really cool.

Chorus is pretty catchy- especially because the same guitar line as the intro is used. The guitar solo seems a bit out of place though- and so does the little bit of French talking. From there until the end the song is good again though.

7/10.

Love Like...Electrocution - With Horses in Her Eyes She Spat Like a Wild Cat

It starts off very slow, just a single guitar playing a simple melody. You can feel it's going to build up to something, and then the full band comes in. The drum beat is very impressive to me, and is overlapped with a quite standard chord structure. There are 2 vocalists; one singer and one screamer. Neither are that good in their field, but together they sound very good and are a nice addiction to the song

Later on they both sing/scream over the top of each other, which kind of ruins it for me. The singer has a chance to show his vocal skills, and I'm treated to one of the girliest screamers in the genre. The music isn't particularly amazing either, but it does it's job of keeps a fast and heavy feel to the song. I suppose in screamo, the vocals are the major emphasis

I didn't particularly like this one. The drumming was the thing that impressed me the most, and considering it's only about 1:13, he pulled out some good stuff. The guitar riffs were quite simple, nothing majorly great or hard about some of the licks. But the vocals are what make screamo songs in my eyes, and they just didn't cut it.
