They are not poppunk, they belong in the alt-indy forum I believe. They are prog-punk I guess. The only thing that keeps people thinking they are pop-punk is Claudio's high pitch singing.

cobert 03-13-2005 11:41 AM

Yeah, dont get angry.....we know they arent pop-punk. But in the alt indie forums, everyone will say "theyre not alt/indie, theyre just poppy emo crap that has some prg influences."

So, because the other forums get thier panties in a bunch, we discuss them here. The official ruling is theyre simply a unique form of pop-punk.

*agrees with cobert*
You see, no matter where we take this, we are going to have little poons aruging over what they really are. Some people say Pop-Punk, some people say Indie, some people say Emo... we really don't give a f*ck.
We only put it here because most of the people here actually enjoy their music. If we took this into the R&M forums, it would be nothing but flaming.
It's just the way it is.

hey, you're not cory! 03-14-2005 07:44 PM

i heard that on their tour with Underoath that they played it and it sucked cause they did right in the middle of their set and it slowed things down

Yeah I can see the light and the glass not working live, it'd be better on some from of unplugged date/tour

cobert 03-16-2005 10:54 AM

Yeah, unless they followed it with like, Devil in Jersy City or some other high energy dong, I can see that bringing everything to a screeching halt.

I cant wait until they come back around Pittsburgh again. I havent seen them live yet, but my sister did. And she said claudio was wearing a striped shirt and he looked like the hamburglar.

I don't get why anyone ever considered them emo.
I mean even the fake definition of emo doesn't fit them.
His lyrics tell a story.
??

cobert 03-17-2005 08:24 AM

Some one just had a discussion about at the drive in in the r/m forums. ADI are emo, apparently. The lyrics dont mean much to the genre anymore, but some of CO/CAM's music could fit emo. Actually, HYNC said progressive emo. Good definition of them, that'd be.

SGlove 03-17-2005 01:22 PM

Oh...
Thank you.
I consider them mall-metal, alt-metal. Whichever.
Prog-alt-metal?

ADI? who's that?

Mall-metal? WTF?

I guess theres not enough metal in them to say anything like that. But genre's really dont matter.

EDIT: ADI is a typo. It should be ATDI, for "at the dirve-in"

It's because Emo isn't just about the lyrics or the vocals in general.
Emo is just a style of music created for people to let out all the pent up emotions they are feeling, in any form possible. Emo is more about PLAYING THE INSTRUMENTS by using Emotion not Knowledge. They only way to really tell if a band is "Emo" or not is by watching them play live, and after seeing them for the second time, I can say that they are "Emo" to certain degrees.

hey, you're not cory! 03-17-2005 07:03 PM

i think that emo has grown from just "emotional hardcore" to where bands like Taking Back Sunday and Thursday can be considered emo....at the very least indie-emo

dislocated214 03-17-2005 07:09 PM

Is Coheed on Atlantic or Columbia yet?

hey, you're not cory! 03-17-2005 07:13 PM

they signed to Columbia but still have ties with Equal Vision

dislocated214 03-17-2005 07:29 PM

Wait what do you mean?

Aww...no more indie label :upset:

hey, you're not cory! 03-17-2005 07:32 PM

i don't really know what i mean. i know they definitly signed with Columbia but i still see them getting marketed by Equal Vision, so i assume that somehow they are on both labels?

cobert 03-17-2005 07:35 PM
i think that emo has grown from just "emotional hardcore" to where bands like Taking Back Sunday and Thursday can be considered emo....at the very least indie-emo
I think bands like Thursday and TBS are...i hate to say this...but theyre "posers" (thats such a ****ing stupid term). Theyre just pop-punk bands disguised as emo. I guess they have some emo influence and a bit of the entire emo "feel", but to me theyre just pop-punk.

And aren't Coheed and Cambria friends with Thursday?

hey, you're not cory! 03-17-2005 07:47 PM

i thought about it and the only thing that makes bands like Indian Summer and Circle Takes the Square emo bands instead of hardcore bands is really just the lyrics. Hardcore with emotional lyrics = emo. so if the lyrics make the band emo than wouldn't a pop punk band with emotional lyrics be just as emo? (i.e. Thursday)

cobert 03-17-2005 07:50 PM

Good point.

But i still dont know if CO+CAM are friends with Thursday.

hey, you're not cory! 03-17-2005 07:58 PM

a lot of bands are friends with each other...i couldn't really tell you, but if you find out for sure tell me. cause my friend WORSHIPS Thursday but makes fun of me for liking Coheed and i'd love to rub that in his face

cobert 03-17-2005 08:48 PM

Yeah, apparently the line "we'll have Paris in flames" from hearshot kid disaster is a refernce to....well, "Paris in flames" from Thursday.
