Dude, you're a ****ing fagot. You have no sense of music at all. First of all there is not one thing boring about Dream Theater. Second of all, your name...maynard sucks..?? What the **** are you thinking??? He is one of the best singers out there. When you read this review, get a gun and shoot yourself, because someone with your music sense should die
Shut up. Just shut up. Using "faggot" as a negative term for gay people is first horribly tasteless and second will not change anybody's mind. He's a pretty close-minded kid from what he said, but you are the bigger idiot and have proven nothing by what you said. |
Well, Quebec, your explanation would make sense except for the fact that Part II (SFAM) is a continuation or further rendition of I. So it really doesn't add up the way you put it.:
"what can go wrong will go wrong"... At least I tried! |
Eh...Pardon me to break up the argument but does Petrucci use many effects? Ive heard a wah (Voices, Glass Prison) and ive heard a phaser (This Dying Soul) but does he use any other effects in his songs like flange, tremelo, or backwards effects ever?
|
He uses an array of effects, too many for me to name. I dont know what you mean by backwards effects; but i read once that for the guitar solo in 'misunderstood', petrucci wrote the solo, learnt it backwards, and then once it was recorded it was then reversed again.

Thats different, about the solo |

He uses many effects.. He has a huge pedal board with all the tones for each songs programmed in it! (See "live at Budokan" DVD disc2) |
:upset: This thread is on page 8? :upset: anyway... anyone seen DT live? I never did cuz when they came in my area, it was 19+... They also came with YES this summer in montreal but I dont really like yes so I didn't waste my money!
|
I've seen DVDs.
That counts... |
I've seen DVDs.

I wish it did count... :upset: Oh well, they don't look very exciting anyway. If Petrucci didn't have to concentrate so hard on what he was playing. At least Alex Lifeson hops around and makes faces and does impromptu comedy sketches...saw it myself at a Rush show in August. 16th row seats! |
I really wish I could see them live...
|
I don't find Petrucci to be in a state of heavy concentration that often. He usually isn't even looking at his guitar as he plays, just making funny faces or simply looking around at the audience. (My personal favorite thing that the two main soloing members of DT, Petrucci and Rudess do, is when doing bends or wah parts, they'll sometimes move their mouths like they are speaking the parts  Can't really explain it, just watch LaB)

Vai's got that bug REAL bad. So do I, for that matter. |

YEah, I wish Petrucci would look more like a human than a statue during shows... well, I think it's better that way, he doesn't mess up his parts! |

OMG me too! WEE R TEH K00L! |
Ok, I don't know if this has been asked in this thread before... I don't really wanna bother reading the 7 past pages.
So Are the Dream Theater live at budokan dvd any good? Of course your gonna say it's it good, but is it like bloody awsome? I'm thinking of wishing it for christmas, so I wanna know if it's THAT good... |

But Jordan Ruddess kicks *** on it. |

Somewhat moved from general revelery:
I'm going out to the local music store today, and while searching for a new artist I remembered Dream Theatre. Would they be interesting to a person who likes AC/DC, Amon Amarth, and lots in between? If so, what is a good album? From what i've heard, i'm thinking Shange Of Seasons or Awake. |
Awake is my favorite album by them, favorite song off that album is Scarred.
|
I like Endless Sacrifice, but I haven't really heard any of the older stuff.

Probably not "A Change of Seasons:" that's really one original and a lot of bad covers, so that doesn't really represent the band's compositional skill very well at all. I stand by 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence as their finest songwriting moment in their career if not their finest technical moment, so I would recommend that as well. |
does Portnoy have any drum battles with anybody? I would love to see that.

There was discussion on this, apparantly it was some sort of malfunction and the 5.1 surround sound doesn't sound as good. Set it to normal stereo it should sound fine, said Portnoy. |

To anyone new to Dream Theater and wants to check them out:
Unlike other people's suggestions, DO NOT get Scenes From A Memory first. I think its their best album, but I've given it to some of my frineds and they hated it. The, I gave one Awake and they loved. Get either Awake or Images and Words first, then if you like them get Scenes From A Memory. |

Awake is a good choice, but I would still say maybe 6DOIT or hell, even Train of Thought, despite the fact that I hated it. |
A Change of Season
"A Change of Seasons" the song on "The Change of Seasons" Album
One Word: Epic The first time i played that song for my band and i said that is the style we strive for they handed me three guitars. A Signature Warlock 7 String a Martin accoustic and A Gibson Les Paul they said if you play that song for us you are GOD. So I came back a week later with the official sheet music and we sat there for da'mn near 30mins and i played all the guitar as i tried to resing the lyrics. THEY BOW TO ME AND KISS MY FEET! Epic I Say Epic I'm gonna make a death pact right now: Kill me if I ever forget what this song is and means Play this at my funneral |
