GBH/The God Awfuls @ The Recher Theater in Baltimore on July 10
I'll make this brief because there is no reason for me to write a book about the show... It was my first time at the venue and it was a pretty ****ty place considering the other venues in the area. The tickets were expensive, they charged an additional $3 at the door if you were under 21, and there were bouncers everywhere. Other than that the show was incredible. The God Awfuls were decent but nothing great. On the otherhand, GBH was ****ing fantastic. They played classics all night including Manic, No Survivors, Sick Boy, Give Me Fire, City Baby and Revenge, Generals, Big Women, and Alcohol among others. The show ended (and started) very early as I left the place just after 11. That's about it and Don't miss GBH's East Coast tour. |

THE ADICTS plus others, JULY 10th 2005, THE CONTINENTAL, NYC
What songs do you remember them playing? |
I had to miss it, it was 2 hours a way and i had no ride, sounds like an awesome show.
|
i had the set list with me, but someone stole it from me. but they played Viva La Revolution first and last. they also played a bunch of stuff of every album like Chinese Takeaway, Johnny was a Soldier, Steamroller, that one "Cheese" song, a couple new songs, Naughty Girl, Troubadour, Joker in a Pack, etc.etc. I left midway for about 15 minutes cos it was so ****ing hot inside.
Oh and BTW to Culture Shock i got in for free at GBH hahaha sucks for you |
Well you saved a nice amount of money. How were you able to get in? Did you suck one of the bouncers off?
|
haha the show was 22 bucks, but the bouncer, seeing as i was already drunk, let me in. i just explained to him how i had no money and only enough to get home by bus.
|
nice, try it at the ottobar next weekend for the subhumans/leftover crack show.

Against Me! with William Whitmore and The Exit, September 6th, Repectable Cafe, West Palm Beach, Florida, Against Me!'s Album release show
I've never really been to a show like this. When I got there, walking down the sidewalk the first person I see is Warren Oakes, the drummer for Against Me!. Now, I can be a little girl about this band, you know. I tried to play it cool, though. I yelled "Warren! You guys are f'ucking great!" He responded, "f'uck yes." I also saw Andrew, the bassist, and we introduced ourselves and had a chit chat, and he asked where I was from (Miami), and he told me he liked my Minutemen shirt. I then waited in line. The show started with William Whitmore. He's a guy who plays banjo, stomps to keep tempo, and prefers swigs of beers instead of water in between songs. He was f'ucking great. Great folk songs, with sincere, personal lyrics. Next up was the exit. First just one guy came out with a harmonica and acoustic guitar. He played a nice song. Then the drummer and guitarist came out. This band is really talented. The guitarist looked just like Lenny Cravitz. I spelled his name wrong. Anyways, they rocked hard, they were kind of Indie rock/punk. All the band members were really into it. The drummer even pulled out a maraca in one of the songs. Very cool performance. But no one was there to see those guys. Against Me! came on and the crowd started yelling. The band just started playing; no fancy introduction. Here's all the songs they played in no order except for the first and last songs: T.S.R. From Her Lips To God's Ears (The Energizer) Pints Of Guinness Make You Strong Sink Florida Sink Rice And Bread You Look Like I Need A Drink Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious Miami Turn Those Clapping Hands Into Angry Balled Fists Even At Our Worst We're Still Better Than Most (The Roller) Problems Don't Lose Touch We Laugh At Danger (And Break All The Rules) Even the annoying as h'ell crowd surfers couldn't ruin it. I was smiling and screaming the lyrics the whole time. It was the best time I've ever had. A bunch of people including me got on stage during the last part of We Laugh At Danger and sang along. It was incredible. After the show, I got to say hi and thanks to all the guys from the band, and talk more with Warren and Andrew. All of them are such down to earth guys. There was no "please visit www.againstme.net and www.myspace.com/againstme" or "we have our new album for sale at the table over there." They got on and off stage without a word, and said thank you in between one of the songs. It was seriously the best experience in my life, and this band has had such a huge impact on me, it was incredible being able to talk to them and thank them again and again, and having them thank me in return. Unbelievable people. Goddam'n right 10/10. |
They didn't play Cliche Guevara?

Nope. I was suprised they didn't, I heard they play that one a lot. |
Suicide Machines - with Lost City Angels and Bullets to Broadway
August 4th, 2005 Craziest show i've ever been to. It was in this little *** building that used to be a gymnastics place. There were about 30 people. Funniest circle pit ever All three bands were outstanding. Afterwards me and some of my droogs got to chat with the lost city angels and Jason and uhhh **** i forget the bassists name (of the suicide machines...) i snorted a condom up my nose and out my mouth for them... |

The Business/Kings of Nuthin'/Freaks Union/Neck/The Dead Pets
The Dead Pets
Fucking awesome as always even though there wasn't many people there. They kept complaining they didn't get any free beer. Sweeney was great and fuucking hilarious. They started play at 6PM. They should've been on later. I can't wait to see them on the 12th. 9/10 Neck Good band with some cool tunes. Very similar to Flogging Molly. The violinist was hot. 7/10 Freaks Union Good but nothing special. 6/10 Kings of Nuthin' Great band. They played just about all my favourite songs. The pit was fucking insane. I got punched and elbowed so many times. It was full of fucking massive skinhead who were all built like brick shithouses. I'm not a small guy (6'2", 14st) but I was just about the smallest guy in there. I managed to grab a setlist at the end. 8/10 The Business I'm not a big fan but they played great. Another (not quite as) insane pit with more huge skinheads. 8/10 It was a great gig. I got a free badge from the Dead Pets guy and found a fiver on the floor at the end. There was also some black dude with an acoustic guitar playing Ska on the way home which was cool. I also swear I saw Stumpy (or someone who looked a lot like him). Does anyone know if he's still in Wales or not? |
Drop Kick Murphy's/ Lost City Angels/ Gang Green/ Some Ska Band (good band)
was on oct 21 in edmonton.
during The Warriors Code Tour. awesome. me and my freind got drunk before the concert and did soem damage. my freind lit a smoke in the mosh and got picked up by the bouncer by his hair! the two best band there wer DKM ( of course) and Lost City Angels. I met most of the people that were on stage that night including Ken Casey and Scruffy as well as talked with the guitarist from Lost City angels. he gave me my money back on most of the merch that i bought. i will remember that for the rest of my llife. DKM had the best setlist i have ever heard them play. this chich undid her freinds tubetop in the middle of the set:naughty: . Gang green was not that bad but waskinda thrashy and repetitive. the ska band ( i think they were called Manic Mustard or something like taht) did a good job too. the solo they did on one of thier songs was so beautifully pulled off. i almost died from dehydration i was in the mosh for so long. |
Sketchyjoe, you saw The Business???? I envy you. They're one of my favorite Oi! bands.

12/12: The Horrorpops/Left Alone/The Dead Pets
The Dead Pets:
Amazing as usual. They should be headlining gigs like this. They played (from what I can remember) The Revenge of the Village Idiots, Never Never, If It Sells It Sells, Mother's Ruin, Great Balls of Fire, Headbanging, Reprogrammed, Dreams For A Crook, We're Coming Back. Pretty similar to last time but who cares? IT'S THE DEAD FOOKIN' PETS! 9/10 Left Alone: Average Rancid wannabes. Typical Hellcat fare. Some ska songs, some punk songs. They weren't bad, they weren't good. Meh. 6/10 The Horrorpops: I'm not a fan but they played well and the pit was brilliant. Not too big and not too small. They had some catchy tunes. The dancers were weirdly hot in a sort of corpse-nurse-goth-cheerleader kind of way. I managed to grab a drumstick. It was enlivened by the fact that the guitarist looks just like Kramer from Seinfeld. Pretty good but I wouldn't buy an album.7/10 It was a good gig. As last time it would've benefited from the Dead Pets playing later. The bouncers were real cunts to anyone who got on stage too. |
Yeah, the Horrorpops' dancers are pretty hot. And Nekroman does kinda look like Kramer. He's a lot cooler when he's playing in the Nekromantix though. And Geoffe Kresge was a lot cooler when he was in Tiger Army. The Horrorpops are just meh but they have some cool members.

07/01/06: The Dead Pets etc
Catch-It Kebabs:
An above average ska-punk band. Pretty cool. 7/10 The Junglists: Like a more ska, more emo Gogol Bordello but worse than that sounds. They had a few good songs, notably the final one with its riff ripped off from the Vanilla Muffins' Gimme Some Sugar Oi! The Violinist frontman seemed like a twat and the keyboardist was wearing a pink necktie. Hmmmm. 5/10 $up: Suck. 2/10 The Dead Pets: Just about one of the best sets I've ever experienced. They played a crapload of great songs, were just as entertaining as usual and the crowd was properly into them as opposed to last time. I stage-dived twice at the end and sang along with Sweeney for a bit of We're Coming Back which ended in a stage invasion. Legendary. 10/10 Jesse James were playing too but me and my mate decided as they obviously weren't going to top the Dead Pets we couldn't be bothered and so we left. |
I saw some guy, Emilyn Brodsky, Guignol, and Erik Petersen today at the Rotunda. That's at 40th in Walnut in beautiful, frigid Philadelphia. It was a hell of a show.
Pictures: http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert1.jpg http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert2.jpg Those two are both of the first guy. He was pretty funny and had good music too. http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert3.jpg There's Emilyn Brodsky. She messed up her own songs, and seemed kind of boring and depressing. Meh. http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert4.jpg http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert5.jpg There's Guignol. They were very good. Circus punk, minus vocals. They has an accordian player, clarinet, tuba, and drummer. http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert6.jpg http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert7.jpg http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert8.jpg http://oscars-r-us.com/pics/albums/userpics/10007/concert9.jpg And there, ladies and gentlemen, is Erik Petersen. I nearly fainted like girls in videos of Beatles concerts. I had an awesome day. A girl even tried to sell me weed at the show. She wasn't discrete about it either. She said she was trying to sell her last bag so she had money for a ride home. I felt bad when I didn't purchase. Ah well. |
What songs did he play?
|
A Liquor Never Brewed, Every Town Will Celebrate, Boycott Me!, Roll Me Through the Gates of Hell, two from the upcoming split with Bread and Roses, and I think one from an older album that I hadn't heard. And I also may be forgetting one.
I got a Mischief Brew shirt too. It's fantastic. |
I remember what I forgot, Joe. He also played Departure Arrival, and Ain't it the Life?
|
What kind of music is Erick Peetersan?
|
Acoustic folk punk. And it's Erik Petersen. With an e. Spell it right or have your fingers chopped off.
|
My apologies. Fix'd.

01-21: Tempest/Wicked Tinkers, Vet's Memorial Theater, Davis, CA
Man, this concert was fun. I can still barely hear.
So this wasn't a punk show at all, but since I'm always talking about Tempest, I decided I review this show anyways. Plus it was awesome. It was my 4th time seeing Tempest and 2nd time seeing Wicked Tinkers, 1st time indoors and at night though. Before I've only seen them at Scottish games and county fairs. Concert started at 8. It was at the Vet's Memorial Theater in the middle of college town Davis, CA. It was a pretty nice theater. Yes it was a sit down concert, but plenty of room for a dance floor in front of the stage. First up were the Wicked Tinkers. They are a very simple band, drums and pipes celtic style. They also throw in some other instruments such as the didgeridoo, the Irish Brass Horn and jaw harp. Watching them play is like traveling back in time to some celtic hunting tribe after a good hunt and the men are celebrating with merryment and music. One word describes the Tinkers, LOUD. Some highlights were their semi-cover of Radar Love, including a human drumkit solo from the snare drum player, which was amazing. Also a good time was their sing along, Wallop the Cat which got the entire audience going. They've gotten a new didge player since I last saw them and he is so much better than the old one, lots of energy. And I'm surprised his didge doesn't have dents from all the beating he does on it with his drumstick. He also played some amazing stuff, including this little tune that sounded very hip hopish. Was a really fantastic set from them. Next came Tempest, one of my favourite bands. They'd have to be if I was willing to see them 4 times and look forward to seeing them at least 3 more times this year. They've got a new album coming out next month, so they played a lot of stuff off of that. Their guitarist, Ronan, is usually very stable and quiet while playing. He reminds me of East Bay Ray in the way of his skinnyness and calmness, but tonight was different. That irish boy was all over the stage, jumping and dancing. He almost beat out fiddle player Michael for most active, but that fiddler is the most energetic man in the biz. Ariane, the bassist, put on a fantastic show as per usual. Both visually and with her fantastic bass skills. Those skills especially showed on her own song, Vision Quest which is on the new album as well. They also played Hangman, which is a really morbid but entertaining song that they ended with a nice long instrumental that included a polka. They didn't play my favorite song which is Green Grow the Rashes and the gig that follows, but they made up for it, big time. At the end of the concert they brought the tinkers back on staged, and boy **** thatw as loud. Lief described it as a wall of sound and I'd have to agree. You have 3 drummers (2 from Tinkers, 1 from Tempest), a didge player, a fiddle, a bass, a guitar, and a double necked mandolin. It was ****ing amazing how they all came together. Was the loudest thing I've heard and the most enertaining. I hope they do more like this and wish they'd do an entire album together. I suggest if Tempest or the Tinkers come anywhere near you, make every effort to go. You will not be disappointed. |
