i loved how vol. 3 had some solos, but i was quite pissed at the fact that they didnt do any of those live on ozzfest.
sucks for you, when i saw em at Jagermeister they played em |
do you feel slipknot sold out on there last cd
No, they just didn't have the same drive as they did before. If I wasn't so pissed the day I was supposed to buy it (they day it came out) I would have gotten it, but I decided to get Chimaira's Impossibilty of Reason, instead. If you want something as intense as Iowa or the S/T, get that CD. You will not be dissapointed. |
Doesn't it suck to be called maggots? Seriously, why not get into the grateful dead? Dead head sounds a lot better than maggot.
Oh and I like the older slipknot. Iowa's an all right cd. |

What were you pissed about? |
Oh and I like the older slipknot. Iowa's an all right cd.
I liked Iowa better, it was less generic, and more pissed. That was something I definately needed back in '01, '02, and '03. Slipknot just doesn't seem to make their point with me unless they are majorly pissed. I guess it's something I'll have to get used to. P.S.: I'm not a "maggot" by any means. |
What were you pissed about?
Finals day, my old girlfriend was talking shit about me, the elitist USS swimmers were talking down to me again... That's why I got Impossibilty of Reason instead of Vol: 3. |
ok, here it goes. MY OPINION!!!
Mick can come up with INSANELY AWESOME RIFFS. i mean, no one can deny that his riffs are the sh1t, but still...if you look at their tabs (someone else also said this i dont know how to do 2 quotes) theyre soooo simple. i mean, The Vermillion Part 2, that is so f*ckin easy to play. (sic) is all open strings, except the last note which is a bar chord on the first fret. and The Blister Exists sounds INSANE, but its just string bending on the thirteenth fret on the E. i mean, the riffs sound awesome, but theyre extremely simple to play. Mick is a CLEVER guitarist, but hes not a GOOD guitarist. ill give him that. dont get me wrong, SlipKnot is my favorite band of all time, but i (unlike most "little slipknot followers") look at the band with REALITY in mind. i know there are MANY bands more talented than slipknot. well thats my 2 cents!! :thumb:
too true. slipknot are my favourite band too, and mick is good but has simple stuff. thankyou. |

I hate you  |
I've been reading alot more about Slipknot lately, and the dude who runs black-goat.com had this to say in regards to Slipknot and genre
"1.1.1. What genre does Slipknot belong to? Hard to explain, but let's put it this way: they're a band that fuses elements taken from hardcore (ie. aggressive vocals, heavy chunks of distortion), goregrind (ie. blast beats, gore imagery), and modern rock. They're not metal, and they're certainly not plain hard rock either." What do other Slipknot fans think about this? Personally I was quick to just call them metal, but maybe not? Alot of people say they are Nu metal, but I don't agree with that either Just want some opinions, and if your'e going to be a dick about it, kindly fuck off now. |
I hate you
just statin my opinion man |
That is actually on every Slipknot fansite. It wasnt written by Michael(they guy who runs black-goat)himself.I also dont agree with them being put in the Nu Metal catagory. But whatever. They are alot more metal oriented than the bands they get lumped up with in the nu metal genre. You can hear more metal influence in their music than you hear in Korn or whatever.Im prolly gonna get bashed for this, but I think Slipknot does pass for metal.
just statin my opinion man
Its not that I disagree with you.Its just that it doesnt hurt to take a little extra time on your spelling and to use punctuation. That kind of stuff hurts my eyes....and brain. |
Well, it doesn't matter if it's on every fansite, I just quoted it from the one I have been reading :p
Also, another question...are there any real standout songs for Craig and Sid? It seems like they are, more often than not, doing nothing on stage... |
Not really.Craig used to just do samples back then.He has a keyboard and grand piano now so he is alot more present on the new album.I guess Danger-Keep Away is his stand out track because its mostly just keyboard.Sid does some stuff, more on s/t and Vol.3 than Iowa(which he was rarely used at all).He is actually pretty decent. His solo in Disasterpiece shows it.But if they let him stand out on their albums,it would sound too much like Limp Bizkit or something.
Edit:Come to think of it,Slipknot songs would be to plain without the crazy sounds that sid and Craig incoorperate. They actually do alot for the band. |

Craig just stands there.... |

All Slipknot discussion here.No more Knot threads.Anyway, what do you guys think about Vol.3?What's your fav. song off of it?
I personally love that cd.One of the few cd's I can listen to from top to bottom without having to change tracks or fast forward. It has really grabbed my attention away from s/t and Iowa.I think its by far their best.Opinions? |

I think the first album is really about the people they are and describes the emmotion behind their music. However, the third album sees corey singing about similar stuff with a less aggressive tone to it and acoustic guitars added. I do feel the solos were a nice touch though. Fav song would be three nil, reason being it emulates the quality of the first album. :thumb: |
alright, here goes
the new album is good, dont get me wrong, but theyre making a BIG BIG mistake going even more mainstream than they already were. if you go to their website (www.black-goat.com) and go to song meanings, then go to heretic anthem. you'll see Corey said he doesnt give "one rat fuck about what the radio thinks. then one album later NO SWEARS, MTV FRIENDLY, MTV FRIENDLY MUSIC VIDEO...what?! i just dont get it, kind of contradictin themselves there... |

yah, really but Jon Davis is my hero, so...i love him... :D |
Maybe he still doesnt give a rat fuk about radio.I think it was more of a growing up album rather than an attempt at mainstream success.Wouldnt you say their previous singles from Iowa and s/t kinda followed the "NO SWEARS, MTV FRIENDLY, MTV FRIENDLY MUSIC VIDEO"?For the most part yes.Its not like they went in and recorded John Denver's next album or anything.Vermilion pt.1 and 2 have simular meanings to Prosthetics and Iowa. Its just done in a much more mature manner.People will grow out of Iowa and s/t soon.Vol.3's maturity gives it a longer run amoung people. It has a much better long term effect than their previous work.

Am going to see the Slipknot and Slayer tour of the UK soon. it should be good. Anyone else going?
