Is everyone here a fan of Jam Bands because of Garcia The Grateful Dead?

ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond 08-26-2004 09:27 PM

i was actually introduced to Phish before the Grateful Dead, but the Grateful Dead are definetely a reason that I love jam bands.

e p 08-27-2004 10:20 AM

Mostly Phish for me then I discovered the Dead.

Badmoon 09-20-2004 09:04 PM

keep on phishin' 09-22-2004 04:10 PM

im wanting to get into blues traveler. i have a live bootleg but i want to get an album now. suggestions please?

BludgeonySteve 09-22-2004 04:39 PM

Phish, the grateful dead, Widespread panic and rusted root are the only jam band's i've ever hear. But they're all good :)

It seems that "Jam" is just a codeword for "hippy". :p

Badmoon 09-22-2004 07:31 PM

I think it's just common for an activist or hippie to be a fan of Jam Bands. It doesn't always go together. But I'm sure if a jam Band fan had a desicion to save a tree of animal he/she would.

Surprisingly, each of there albums is great introduction to them. But either get Travelers & Thieves, Four, or Save his Soul. Though it was Travelers & Thieves that really made me a fan.
I may see String Cheese at the end of October.
Kingadamx 09-23-2004 07:34 PM

Yeah, Thank you for bringing back my old thread.

So just out of opinion how many of you have heard Grateful Dead's 2nd Self-Titled album (Skull and Roses)? I personally think that it is one of their best live albums. What do you guys think of the album?

Badmoon 09-23-2004 08:17 PM

That is their best live album.

"Mama Tried", "Me & My Uncle", and "Wharf Rat" are amazing.

keep on phishin' 09-24-2004 03:26 PM

^ i actually have not heard that one.

my favorite live dead album is the four disk fillmore

simply put. heaven in a box

Badmoon 09-24-2004 03:33 PM

"Half my life...Spent doin' time for some other fucker's crime."

"The other half spent, stumblin' around, drunk on burgundy wine" ~ Wharf Rat

Badmoon 09-24-2004 04:46 PM

**Bump**

MassaHuang 10-16-2004 08:56 PM

Best Jam Bands:

Phish
Grateful Dead
MMW
String Cheese
Spin Doctors
Three Apples High
Soulive
Big Head Todd and the Monsters (bit of a stretch)
Robert Randolph and the Family Band
Yes (a stretch once again)

Badmoon 10-16-2004 09:30 PM

Yes isn't a jam band.

MassaHuang 10-16-2004 10:01 PM

i know, it was a major stretch, but close to the edge was definetly on the jam side of their music

Badmoon 10-16-2004 10:15 PM

Yeah, sure a lot of their music is/ :)

Kingadamx 10-17-2004 11:18 AM

Yes is Progressive Rock.

Permanent Solution 10-17-2004 12:16 PM

I would say RX Bandits was almost a jam band live...since they played 5 minute jams leading into each 2 minute song lol...
