ugh. sore throat = not fun.

My work computer is logged in as one, my home computer as the other. The avatars should help to avoid confusion. I mean, I don't know anybody manly enough to have a sperm avatar (other than sr800).

ITT: I mind**** the **** out of some dude in Indiana.

FunkMetalBass 03-18-2009 02:33 PM

My stomache has been off the hook and going crazy today. I've ingested bread and sprite in hopes of calming it, but it wont listen.

BenJammin 03-18-2009 06:54 PM

Yes.

BenJammin 03-18-2009 08:56 PM

I think I'm going to put together a bass from parts. I'm getting ready to start up a band with a friend of mine, and after playing for long bouts of time on my 6 string, I've realized that it's not really the kind of instrument I would want to play a 45-60 minute set with in a band environment. So I'm going to put together a nice, light P Bass.

My tax return should cover most of the parts.

DaveSavesTheDay 03-18-2009 10:05 PM

I hope I get a half decent tax return this year.

BenJammin 03-18-2009 10:49 PM

Me too. It won't be as much as I got last year (just shy of $1300) because I didn't work as much this year, or pay as much tax, but it should still be $600-800.

BenJammin 03-18-2009 10:50 PM

Also, Dave: megaupload.com/?d=a07dgv1k (copy and paste into your browser)

That's the album I put up the cover art of the other day.

FunkMetalBass 03-19-2009 11:11 AM

For $600, why not just buy a used P-Bass with a comfortable neck and upgrade electronics? I don't think you'll be able to put anything better together for that price.

On second thought, maybe Carvin DIY kit + electronics upgrade could be in that $600-$800 range.

I have a custom 8-string that I have the same feelings toward. Fun to play, no way in hell would I try to wear that thing on stage for a gig.

Actually, if I move the strap button and use one of those Dual Slider straps, it may not feel so heavy and I might be able to stand with it.

Gotta wait for the setup and recessed straplocks though.

burtonbassist_102 03-19-2009 01:19 PM

my return's gonna be like $900 this year.

i'm freakin excited.

:amaze: 03-19-2009 01:22 PM

i already received and spent my tax return...

FunkMetalBass 03-19-2009 01:32 PM

I got back my $3800 tax return and put it mostly into savings and about $600 into PA gear.

I want to upgrade the pickups in my Schecter to an EMG 45DC-X in the neck and the 45CS-X in the bridge position. I'm also thinking about throwing an Aggy OBP-3 into it, but I'll wait and see how the pickups hold up. Anybody have comments or other suggestions as far as the upgrades are concerned?

Spaceman Spiff 03-19-2009 03:12 PM

I've never gotten a tax return. I guess I'll still need to wait until next year.

fatbandit 03-19-2009 05:08 PM

I haven't had a full year paying tax yet. I wish I got tax returns. Better yet, I wish they didn't tax me.

And you guys are all women. All 3 of my 7 strings have weighed about a stone each, and I play 3+ hour practices and energetic 45 minute sets with them strapped to me.

:amaze: 03-19-2009 05:09 PM

honestly, i wouldn't want to have anything heavier than my jazz.

I don't know if I trust the strap locks to hold up under the weight of that thing. Maybe after I get those flush mount strap locks in and have it set up, I'll try it. It would be nice to actually play that at a show.

And you don't actually have to work a full year. Taxes are done on the fiscal year, so if you started in September '08, you still have to file your taxes this year for what you worked last year.

burtonbassist_102 03-19-2009 07:44 PM

i can't stop coughing. this sucks.

it's been so long since i've been sick.

Spaceman Spiff 03-19-2009 09:30 PM

A big fat Capital H show is going down tomorrow. I couldn't be more excited.

Sablate McNuff 03-19-2009 10:07 PM

Sweet. Good luck!
Sweet. Good luck!
Thanks, dawg.

Ben, I know what will get you excited. We're going to try to play a show in New Brunswick at some point because the bassist has tons of family out there in Bath. Like, his family pretty much makes up the entire town.
