NP: Right in Two...I'm fucking loving this one, folks.
Does abybody know the lyrics for that song? |
I was going to go see them in Chicago, but it was sold out before I could even get tickets. :(
I haven't said anything about the album, so I will now. I like it. Not my favorite Tool album, but I do like it more than Opiate and Undertow. There are some great moments on the album. It's weird, but my favorite part of the album is in my least favorite song. In Rosetta Stoned, from the weird guitar solo to the odd chant is just awesome. Other than that, I hate that song. Track 10 (the title escapes me now) is one of my favorite Tool songs. Good album as a whole. Not great, but good nonetheless. Alright, I'm done with my random comments. :p |

I think they're about evolution. I haven't looked for the lyrics online though, if that's what you mean. |

There's lyrics here, not fully worked out yet, but a basic idea of the song lyrics nevertheless. |
If you just type '[insert song name here] lyrics' on google it comes up with lots of sites.
|
Okay I was looking on Play.com to see if I could find Opiate cheap and I stumbled upon this:
http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/1001186/Salival/Product.html Is there a plan for a re-release of Salival or something? |
i believe so. i heard may 15, but that's unlikely
|
www.leoslyrics.com is a great place for any lyrics.
Edit: For you Radiohead fans, found this link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VLqLDRWvMTo&search=fake%20plastic%20trees Great performances and a great interview, a really good watch. |
Tool I think is playing at voodoo fest this upcoming October.

Guys, Wings is my least favorite song on 10k Days. There are moments that make me tear up, but as a whole, I don't think it's really that great of a track.
Chris - stfu Rosetta Stoned is awesome. >:-[ |

The part in Right In Two when he starts singing "Monkey Killing Monkey Killing" sounds so redicliously stupid.
|
When accusing something of sounding stupid, one should probably think about spelling correctly. :)
Oh, and for the record, I disagree. |
Pfft, you can do better than that. Like, its a great song, just the lyric "Monkey Killing" sounds so forced and contrived, even within its context.

How does it sound forced and contrived? |
Yeah, I don't really get that. I don't think I've ever felt as if music has been forced, so yeah..Expanation?
Sorry for the Ad Hominem argument too. :p |
You got this ambient, almost floating peice of music, and he comes in with "monkey killing, monkey killing, monkey". I think it just cuts the flow of the song and the listener is sitting there going... did he just talk about monkeys killing things? The worst part is that he ends the line with "Monkey" without continuing it, it sounds really childish like he put it in there just to throw you off. Evolution or not, I think it sounds silly.
Heh, side note, staright after Viginti Tres finishes on my playlist, Danger Zone from the Top Gun soundtrak starts playing. Its quite the wierd transition. Tool -> cheesy 80's music. |

I think the vocals are very strong in the song. |

I've never really looked at it as immature...I recall that feeling of "he just said monkey?" when I first heard the song, but I personally think it fits well with the topic at hand(being the primitive nature of humans, etc..).
I read something on tdn about how angels often refer to humans as 'monkeys.' Somehow the story goes that angels were pissed at their God because they share similiar forms but humans are so inferior in every other way that the angels were angered that they looked so much alike. Something to that degree. I think Maynard wrote the lyrics almost in a 1st person angel point of view. Or at least the monkey line. Maybe this will make you see the song in a different light or something. I don't want to try and push you to think of the song any better, but yeah, just saying what I've read and sharing it. |
I thought it was dumb when someone told me he was talking about monkeys, but he's not talking about monkeys. So it's not dumb (in my opinion).
Jake, Rosetta Stoned is actually stupid, just so you know. If you like that song you are stupid. /sarcasm That song is growing on me, but only because I know the awesome part is getting closer the longer I listen. :D EDIT: Is it monkies or monkeys? Monkies should be right, but it doesn't seem right. EDIT 2: Monkeys is right. /is a douche |
Rosetta Stoned is my favourite song on the album. I the only one? I love it. Especially the 11/8 riff.
|
The intro is awesome, and the solo/after solo until the chanting is awesome, but I really don't like the little "god damn, I shit the bed!" chant. Not that lyric, I don't like the vocal style of that part. The beginning with the extremely fast talking doesn't appeal to me either.
Other than the dislikes, it's my favorite song on the album. :p The cool part of that song got a "wow" from me, out loud, which doesn't happen often.. Penguins fan! Yes! |
This album really is a mixed bag lyrically (but then again its pretty much a mixed bag in all areas). Vicarious, Jambi, and the wings are all fairly well written, not too self-indulgent but not mindless either. However from there it goes downhill. The Pot is substandard (talking lyrics here, i love the song itself), filled with cliches and immature grass references. And dont get me started on Rosetta Stoned, you know for a bunch of guys in their 40s you would think theyd be past their whole psychadelic drug song stage (and the **** the bed line is just laughable). Right in Two is a great song, but again the lyrics arent brilliant, I guess the monkey imagery isnt all that annoying, but it isnt exactly inspired either.
Sigh...I read a review that really sums 10 000 days up, in fact it was probably the latest one on Sputnik. The first five songs make you think that this could be the most consistent tool album since undertow...but 6-7-8 and 11 washes that all away :(. |

Still my fav team though heh. |

I thought the exact same thing the first couple times, but now I enjoy the end of the album more than I did. Still not my favorite Tool songs, but not as ehhhh as I previously thought. |
the progression in right in two is awsome
|
I think I like The Pot and Rosetta Stoned the best.
|
hey what headphones do you guys use if any?
|
I use hella awesome birthday present $50 dollar designed for audiophiles MDR-XD100 for my computer. Standard issue ones for my mp3 player.

sounds good. Im currently using those sony clip ons and the right side is starting to buzz |
Yeah, if you are looking for quality headphones, try and score yourself some recording studio ones. Anything over $50 AUD should be pretty good quality.
|
I'm so glad my uncle realised how much I love music. He's awesome. He's the one who bought me my headphones. The music clarity is great, and they not only give good "surround sound" coverage, but the bass and trebles are represented excellently.
|
Well, you see the feeling of having a pair of sealed head phones on is a totally different experiance to having a large stereo system, and often you can get more clarity through head phones, particularly at lower levels, in some ways it isolates you from the world, just you an the music, it's a real psychological thing I find.
|
Yeah, that's what I love about it.

Thanks why I just spend quite a bit on headphones, get the sound quality and the experience :) |
I find that I need to have some songs playing through loud speakers in order to get that full experience and headphones for others.
|
^^^
Ohh yeah, I totally agree. Good example Black Sabbath, the song. The only way to achieve the "wall of sound" is to have a set of loudspeakers, that too is a real psychological thing. In someways it depends on what you like and what suits the head phones. |
Well, if you're in the mood for air guitar/bass/drums, then obviously speakers are the way to go. But I find that a lot of the time, when I'm just typing or something, I'll go for my headphones. It also allows me to listen to the music at an audible level when my family are around/asleep.
|
^^^
Yeah, I have that issue too about the family going to bed before I do... Is it just me or does the male doctor in Lost Keys sound Australian... I'm having trouble getting it down, I dunno. Also, has anyone figured out what 10,000 Days actually refers too? |
