Long Instrumental Psychedelic Jams ----------------------------------- 1. Intersteller Overdrive (Pink Floyd) 2. Calvery (Quicksliver Messanger Service) *waits for the Moon*
Does Dark Star have lyrics? I always forget. As for pompatus (my prefered spelling) I think Steve was just really stoned when he wrote that song. Steve Miller kicks ass, so it doesn't matter. |
Dqark Star does have lyrics.
|
Dqark Star does have lyrics.
Ok. I always listen to it on Live Dead and it seems like I always have to leave, so I never finish it. |
It's pompitous. And yes, since Steve Miller kick so much ass, they are allowed to make up their own word.
|

Yea, that spelling seems right. I like saying pompitous.....it's fun. |
"Dark Star" would count even if it has some lyrics.

I thought we were talking instrumental though? |
I thought we were talking instrumental though?
Well not many fit the description of "Long Instrumental Psychedelic Jams" Im not going to be picky. Dark Star is close enough. |
Favorite song of the minute: The Crystal Ship -The Doors

Well I would recommend United States of America (s\t), Quicksilver Messenger Service (Happy Trails), 13th Floor Elevators (Psychedelic sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators), Pink Floyd (Piper at the Gates of Dawn), The Byrds (5th Deminsion), Love (Forever Changes), the Zombies (Osessy & Oracle), The Soft Machine (vol. 1 & 2), Strawberry Alarm Clock (Incence & Pepperments) and the Yardbirds (Roger the Enginier). |
This thread is going real slow today.
Anyways I hope Neil makes that guitarist poll. |
He is I think. :)

Piper At The Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd is the best psychedellic album. Ask for that one! |

Uh oh.. |
Hey, ive never posted in here but these are some if the Classic Rock people i like.
Led Zeppelin The Allman Brothers Band The Who AC/DC Jimi Hendrix Bob Marley?? Lynyrd Skynyrd Pink Floyd Classic Rock is probly my favorite next to Heavy Metal. |
Uh oh..
Moon will tear him down. |
Well it is!
|
Tear me down, I don't care. It's my opinion, I shouldn't care what he thinks. He and I are two totally different people, and since I first saw one of his posts, I knew we would disagree on a lot of things.
I like PATGOD, and I think it's a good album and one of the few that embodies the spirit of 1967, alongside Sgt. Pepper, Pet Sounds, Velvet Underground and Nico, The Doors, Disraeli Gears and Surrealistic Pillow. |
*stands and claps*
|
Oh shoot, nevermind. I thought Schyma would be the one doing the tearing down, cause I thought he was the one who likes QMS and that stuff.
I love PATGOD as well, I just figured that statement would bring up some controversy. |
Does anyone like Patti Smith?
|
I had a Barrett avatar for the longest time I really do think its the greatest psychedelic album of all time. Moon is the only anti Barrett person here.

I remember that one. |
So......Pink Floyd > Led Zeppelin.
Everyone agree? |
Yea.
|
Infact Syd just might make it. :D
|
So......Pink Floyd > Led Zeppelin.
Everyone agree?
Fo' shizzle. |
So......Pink Floyd > Led Zeppelin.
Everyone agree?
I agree. Badmoon always puts down Syd. |
Pink Floyd is way better than Zepp... at least on the recording studios. Now, on live shows, it's hard. Zepp has a way of putting the audience into a tribal state of mind, which is awesome. But Pink Floyd plays with your senses on live shows, so they're great too. I don't know how to explain it.
Floyd, in my opinion, is the only band that can rival The Beatles on originality as recording artists. |
I don't know much about Pink Floyd...I have to get some work by them, a lot of people think they are the greatest band ever so I'll have to buy some albums soon, although I rarely see their albums in the used section no ones willing to give them up!
Not to put down what you said about psychedelic and embodying 1967, but I think the Grateful Dead's s/t from that year is amazing, I'm not sure which my favorite from that year is. EDIT: Picked up a used CD, Dead Set, never heard of it, it's just some live recordings I only listened to two so far, good stuff. Only $7 :thumb: |
I'm not sure who I like more between Zepp and Floyd. I think Floyd maintained their creative and original edge longer than Zeppelin did. Don't get me wrong, I love Zeppelins later albums...but they really weren't doing anything groundbreaking (compared to The Wall and such Floyd albums).
Floyd definitely made better albums though. I prefer listening to a Floyd album than a Zep albun, just because they are more 'as a whole'. |
With my statement I'm not saying that the only two artists to achieve great things on a recording studio were The Beatles and Pink Floyd. In my opionion (key word 'opinion') The Beatles are the most important artist in the studio, since I believe the revolutionize the way studios are used and they made the blueprints, and to some degrees, the standard on how artists record their songs to these days.
And in this opinion of mine, I believe that Pink Floyd is the only other band to have come close to what The Beatles achieve. Now I'm not disregarding what other artists, such as Zappa, VU, The Beach Boys, and other modern bands like the Mars Volta, have done great things on the studio. I'm just saying that those two bands are the most important and significant ones to have step into a studio (being mostly Abbey Road, coincidence?) Sorry if I insulted other people's personal tastes, but that is what I think. |
