Yea, I can tell. Lucky for him Goro is already to play something incredible.
Yea, I can tell. Lucky for him Goro is already to play something incredible.
so he sucks at guitar?
|
If you want to put words in my mouth, sure, you can think whatever you'd like.
|
This album is kind of messy sounding.
|
Sometimes it seems like they made riffs in a odd time sig and it kind of sounds forced.
Agreed! I wasn't sure how to put it, but that really nailed it. Put in odd times for the sake of being odd almost. |
Man guys, I am so glad that Im not the only one who feels this way. I just have a problem with the hype they put on this album in the past couple of years. I remember one of Blair's little 15 minute segments when he was talking to Carey at his house, and how Carey had mentioned that the music they were working on was the most intense and technical music they had ever created. I guess I expected something that was going to blow Lateralus and Aenema away.
|
It is more technical, just not as interesting. Plus the mixing kind of sucks. 8:40 to abou 9:30 of Rosetta Stoned could have been way better. The material is awesome and intense but the mixing really messed that part up.
|
I don't really feel it is more technical. As I have said before, Carey and Chancellor really stand out in this recording. I totally agree with the mixing of the CD. The vocals are buried and effect laden, Maynard has a beautiful voice, they should try to keep it as natural as possible.
|
His voice has never been natural though.
|
Agreed. He's never had a techincal voice, but it's so damn cultured that it blends well with the band. It's very enjoyable.
|
Did any Aussies just see the Tool special on Channel V? It wasn't too bad, although i missed out on half of it.
|
Don't have cable. Would have liked to see it though.
|
Don't have cable. Would have liked to see it though.
You didnt miss out on all that much.It was on this request show,so it was basically snippets of a Tool interview (probably amounted to about 10 minutes all up) and Tool videos thrown on in between a bunch of crap songs requested by 10 year olds. |
Omg
ok so i finally manage to buy the album and i was amazed by the packaging itself. i started looking at the artwork through the lenses, i didnt really get it until i reached the end of the booklet and was looking at the picture on the cd holder.. my eyes crossed and i got the picture
|
I can see what you guys mean about the vocals being mixed low. So far, I've listened to the album 1 and a half times, and whilst I am enjoying it, I do like all of Tool's other releases better.
|
lets put it this way...
if you dont like the album, it sucks to be you  |
amen to that... but yeah give it some time, as with all tool, it may take a few listens to grab you properly...
|
i've listened to the new album about 70 times or more, and i've already started learning guitar parts.
As far people saying it was forced, wtf is that supposed to mean? |
i have no idea lol... sounds really laid back and natural to me... but thats just my opinion...
and 70? jeez... ive hit maybe 20 if im lucky... and i thought i was doing well... started figuring out the bass line for vicarious but my ear has never been really good so its dragging out... |
lets put it this way, i went through 3 copies of ænima
my iPOD broke, and my car CD player is fukked, so that number wont move anytime soon |
lol got a mental image of the laser burning its way through the cd... ... ... that didnt happen did it? :p
and yeah... i just discovered today the greatness of pumping 10,000 days whilst driving... sweet as... it wont be moving from there for a while... |
my friggin CD player in my pathfinder is fukked! The CD is stuck, and i havent found a good method for ripping it out of there yet. Im going need to send back my iPOD for repair. I should really get on that
|
the cd or THE cd?
|
a CD, as in i have no idea which one it was. I do know its NOT my favorite Nevermore CD, and its not the new TOoL CD
the only way i can continue to listen as of now is when i get home to my computer :upset: |
until you crash the hard drive... :P
and yeah... i can just imagine getting the new tool cd, putting in the cd player and then having it get stuck... without being able to play it... i would torn my car apart piece by piece to get it back... |
I did something similar with my DT Live Scences From New York DVD, put it in my DVD player, forgetting that another disk was still in there, so both became stuck. I tore it to pieces to get them out, and it suprisingly still worked when I reassembled it
|
the head unit is like 300 USD though...
id probably just buy a new disk if that were the case. Im afraid to tackle the problem for that reason alone |
ah.. that could be a prob... and yeah when i bought my DT Scenes from NY DVD it wouldnt work in my dvd player... i had to borrow (permanantly) a mates dvd player before i could watch it... i would have loved to see my own face when i got home home, ripped off the plastic, stuck it in...... and it didnt work...

Viginti Tres is an interesting track.. reminds me of what i hear when i get sleep paralysis
|
Viginti Tres is an interesting track.. reminds me of what i hear when i get sleep paralys
damn, ive only experienced that once. That sucks dude |
Im planning on locking my friend's incredibly scare-able girlfriend in a dark room and play Viginti Tres full blast
then have my way with her It certinally is a one shot track though, like LAMC was, once you hear it, thats it, no desire or need to hear it again |
Viginti Tres caught me off guard... 5 mins of practically nothing? all the other albums ended with a bang and that was probably the only real disappointment i had with the new album...

then have my way with her It certinally is a one shot track though, like LAMC was, once you hear it, thats it, no desire or need to hear it again
i basically end the album a track early, or repeat it before it gets to that point. |
Viginti Tres caught me off guard... 5 mins of practically nothing? all the other albums ended with a bang and that was probably the only real disappointment i had with the new album...
It caught you off guard with a bang, exactly what the band wanted.:naughty: |
Packaging>Album
Nothing is really jumping out at me and making me say dam I GOTTA hear that again. I'm sure it will grow on me more and more. I do keep getting Wings II stuck in my head. I bet live it will be better. |
Viginti Tres is an interesting track.. reminds me of what i hear when i get sleep paralysis
I never thought about that, but now that you mention it that is exactly what it is like. |
Well, supposedly the stereo optic pictures of the band members have a meaning behind them according to Blair. As he puts it, it's a "kind of puzzle"..
Those pretentious bastards, and their pretentious ways.. </sarcasm...but seriously, some of you guys need to use a new word. Maybe, "haughty", "arrogant", "vague", or "snobbish"..?> As of now I have heard the album so many times that I'm having withdraws, because I'm here at work and my cd-player has no batteries. Of all the damned luck. Not to mention that whenever I go to bed "Jambi" is playing in my head. Yes, I am that sad.. I feel that the album was mixed a little off centered. You have this ginormous build-up with "Vicarious", "Jambi", "WfM/10,000days", and "The Pot" to only come to a screeching halt to have a mystical chant with a Native American (though, I can't say much because I enjoyed the chanting...it's in my blood.. lol.). Though, I remember an one of the band members saying that it was in a totally different order whenever it was originally conceived at one of the listening party interviews.. Overall, it's one of my new favorite albums.. |
Viginti Tres caught me off guard... 5 mins of practically nothing? all the other albums ended with a bang and that was probably the only real disappointment i had with the new album...
They... have? Only one Tool album has ended in a bang to my knowledge, and that's Ænima. I suppose the Gaping Lotus Experience, Disguistipated and Faaip de Oiad really rock hard to some people? :p |
3rd is really the only END track that im really into. The "secret" song on Opiate gets old after the first listen. I can't bare to listen after 4 degrees on undertow, and I turn off lateralus after Triad...
i guess if you are into those "out there" tracks. Never really my bag |
I never thought about that, but now that you mention it that is exactly what it is like.
My thoughts exactly, it's the sounds you hear in the stage of consciousness right before sleep... or in some peoples case out of body experiences. Interesting stuff. They have used that sound before and is exactly what they are going for. :) And for anyone who uses brainwave synchronizers you will recognize the sounds, I imagine they put that in there to relax the listener after the album is done. So far all the people claiming it is just noise, which it essentially is, there is some meaning to the noise. |
