Dried Muffin Remnants 10-17-2005 09:16 PM

The drum solo just sounds like Danny doing a bunch of random sh!t to creatively stay on beat. Pretty cool, though.

Futuro 10-17-2005 09:18 PM

I think the main reason I dont like his drum sound is the bubinga wood. Im so used to hearing Maple and Birch, That bubinga kinda makes me go blegh....
Drums: two bars of 7/8, one bar of 8/8. Repeat.
Guitar: One bar of 7/8, one bar of 8/8. Repeat
Bass: One bar of 8/8, one bar of 7/8. Repeat.
Me: Masturbate at 200 bpm.
I love you jake

YouGottaBeCrazy 10-17-2005 09:20 PM
I prefer the drum sound of Aenima, His drums sound all tubby on lateralus.
Tubby? :p

Futuro 10-17-2005 09:23 PM
Tubby?
Yeah they are too round sounding. They remind me of the MMX series from pearl (Which I also dont like) Instead of a nice blend of attack and tone, They seem to sound....well tubby :)
You need to get laid.
I've decided(probably out of justification for my lack of a sex life) that "getting some" is overrated. There are far better things in life than living to try and get laid. This year, I realized that these pathetic losers who try and do every chick possible are the guys I despise. There's nothing wrong with having sex, of course, but what I mean is that basing your social life around how many times you get done is about as cool as *snicker* listening to Tool!

In an effort to tie my rant into this thread, I'm going to say that I think Jerk Off is about these kind of guys. I'm not really kidding about this either. I mean, just listening to the lyrics once with this in mind, and it kind of becomes apparent. Sort of...

Sixty Ton Angel 10-18-2005 02:49 AM

I'm a big fan of Danny Carey's and think his drums sound great on each album, but what really stands out for me is the drumming on Lateralus.

Never before had I listened pretty much solely to the drums. Usually I would just listen out for the guitar/vocals and not take much notice of the percussion but with Tool they wouldn't let me.

Btw, I was SKoRioN but I made a new account as that was really old and created when I was a Metallica fanboy :(

Just letting ya know :thumb:

Adam Jones is GOD 10-18-2005 05:43 AM

..falls to the earth.

I hate usernames that make me randomly sing the next line :(

Jake preaches the truth too.

And tool related part of post, my Lateralus disk has finally started skipping. Good job I play off PC, or on mp3 player most of the time

mudvayne420 10-18-2005 12:08 PM

Yeup jake you speak the truth to the max(realized that sounds cheesy)

WEll, the song that got me hooked on tool was Laterlaus, i heard schism on the radio first but i only heard the end, then 2 days later i heard another song on the radio, but i wasn't schism but Lateralus and i loved it especially the climax of the bass whammy.

JamJar 10-18-2005 12:45 PM

Mx got me into tool. I read the review for lateralus on mx and i downloaded schism i was instantly hooked by the awsome bass line. (unfortunately i didnt realise that I hadnt downloaded the full version, it was only 4 mins). Then i bought the album.

I love the drums on lateralus, theyre so creative and dannys playing really makes your jaw drop. Awsome!

Sixty Ton Angel 10-18-2005 12:48 PM

What radio stations do you listen to

The only things I can get around here are either classic pop (some good tunes I admit) or some new gansta shizzle....werd.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. 'The Game' is really getting on my tits

Artemician 10-18-2005 01:36 PM

Wow, this is what? The third "what song got you into Tool?" discussion on this thread? Or is it the fourth?

Anyway, Stinkfist... again.

Hey i just got The Power of Beef, its very,eh....manly
I just got the loan of the power of beef (oh my God I think I might be breaking the law!!!) and he describes it pretty well, it is very eh...manly!!!

Anyone one else here have it? and what do you think? the drumming is....well its Carey, thats all I need to say!! (it is more straight up than tool though). The guitar is pretty average rock/metal, but has it moments...actually it's not too bad...maybe even quite good!!
The bass is mediocre, not really noticable and
the vocals are savage!!! well they're obviously piss takes but I think they're brilliantly hillarious!!!

Any opinions?!!

PS.tanx Bradley man for lendin it to me:thumb:

What lyrics is everybody liking at the moment? It dosen't have to be Tool.

Myself, I'm liking The Dillinger Escape Plan's "Panasonic Youth" lyrics:

"we wrote these plans. took the order. the architecture. and followed them to the end. til the gears ground cold and relentless. there was no remorse. we had none we kept on with no trace of a regret. there was no remorse. i never saw any blood. no soul for the body. watched them turn her scab covered skin into stone. like a coal in the sky. searching for the dawn for the last time. bloated with white eyes wide. we've come to an understanding - you lose/I profit. high noon and there ain't no secrets. no more excuses. now our number's up. let them lead us by the throat. now just smile while the rope pulls tighter. guilty is an understatement. the hourglass is never right side up. and all the time we try to tear the script up. forgetting all the sour for the sweet. the paragraph has never been so empty. the lifeless testtube. the mother dies with infant in arms. the lifeless testtube, look what she's done. evolution gave us a clock that's always winding down."

What's funny is that they had a single for that album called "Unretrofied," and it was the plainest, most un-DEP like song you'd ever expect to hear.

Now imagine a kid getting "into" the band because of that song, buying Miss Machine, and hearing that opening track. His face would melt like the Nazis who looked at the Ark! It would be too fucking awesome for him.

PS saw them live and it was amazing.

Oh God, that would be the best thing ever.

I saw them in August, sorta. I was at Gigantour, and in line getting autographs from Megadeth while they were playing. At the time, I wasn't too much of a fan of them though. I still headbanged along to 43% Burnt, and many others. Actually, I could see somewhat see them playing from where I was standing.

Anyways, they aren't coming ANYWHERE near me on their headlining tour, which sucks a big one.
