TimJim 01-27-2010 04:26 PM

ive never listened to CoF or DB before. didnt seem worth my time somehow

Stevie 01-27-2010 04:34 PM

mayhem, emperor
then darkthrone, immortal, burzum

these 5 bands give a very good basis

Morumbar 01-27-2010 04:38 PM

I used to be completely uninterested by CoF and Dimmu because they attracted an insane amount of wannabe goths and 'alternative' (dressing like every other alternative fag amirite) fags.

I later found out that both bands have a few good songs.

TimJim 01-27-2010 04:40 PM

CoF look like those people you just discribed so idk

Morumbar 01-27-2010 04:49 PM

Well yah, but still, they have a few good songs. And so does Dimmu. The bands are actually pretty good. It's just not the kind of stuff I'm really into.

BLASPHEMYOGAPHER 01-27-2010 06:02 PM

i asked my mom to get me a blaze in the northern sky for christmas and then it was like bam

masscows 01-27-2010 06:19 PM

100% quality trolling, keep up the good work man

Stormrider 01-27-2010 06:51 PM

Dimmu Borgir actually have a couple pretty sweet songs, not gunna lie.
first black metal records i bought were a blaze in the northern sky, storm of the light's bane and dark medieval times.

yeah, that was the first one I bought as well. I still really enjoy it today.

First black metal albums I got were A Blaze in the Northern Sky and Hvis Lyset Tar Oss.

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:06 PM

Ah, the weekly "what band got me into black metal" convo. Overdone but comforting at the same time.

Stormrider 01-27-2010 07:45 PM

retired speaking of posting repetitiveness haha

<3

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:46 PM

You're just mad that I coined the term "sup bros". Deal with it.

Stormrider 01-27-2010 07:47 PM

im not even referring to sup bros

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:49 PM

I've got so many catch phrases I don't even remember them all.

Stormrider 01-27-2010 07:50 PM

im not referring to any of your other catch phrases either

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:51 PM

You've stumped me, sir.

Angmar 01-27-2010 07:52 PM

He's saying that you post a lot of the same opinions and a lot of the same things in general over and over again.

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:54 PM

Yeah having opinions that are consistent is gay.

Angmar 01-27-2010 07:56 PM

ist homosexual

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 07:57 PM

Well pardon my English!

No, constantly repeating yourself is different than having consistent opinions.

Bur hey, I wasn't really serious to begin with so... anyway

RetiredAt21 01-27-2010 08:12 PM

Oh. OK.

xkeyboardmoshx 01-27-2010 09:12 PM
Dimmu Borgir actually have a couple pretty sweet songs, not gunna lie.
Off the first few albums I'm assuming? Cause I totally agree.

Stormrider 01-27-2010 09:15 PM

Actually, even on the later stuff. Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny off Puritanical is great, so is In Death's Embrace, but that counts as off the first few albums.

I've heard some of For All Tid and wasn't really impressed and I've never given Stormblast a listen.

xkeyboardmoshx 01-27-2010 09:19 PM

For All Tid is decent, Stormblast is the illness though. I also like a good bit of Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.

Stormblast is probably their strongest classic BM release, but the first 3 are pretty great. After that it is very hit and miss - though I do enjoy "Kings of the Carnival Creation" off of Puritanical, but that is because of Galder's influence - Old Man's Child FTW.

masscows 01-27-2010 09:32 PM

I heard some of For All Tid and was like bleggh I'll just listen to Emperor

RouteOne 01-27-2010 09:34 PM

Every single Dimmu Borgir album is crap.

jk2two 01-27-2010 09:36 PM

Emperor are so hard to compare to any other black metal band. No one can use polyphony like they do - 5, 6, 7 melodies at once... and it still works? Just incredible. They are in a class all their own, but that is not to say they are the only black metal worth listening to...

masscows 01-27-2010 09:36 PM

Enthrone Darkness Triumphant isn't bad, but calling it anything other than heavy metal would be giving it undeserved credibility.
Emperor are so hard to compare to any other black metal band. A narrow view perhaps?

No I am always right.

Txus 01-27-2010 09:38 PM

A very true view.

I am the Black Wizards...

awesome song, awesome grammer

masscows 01-27-2010 09:40 PM

That's my favorite Emperor song haha. It has that much going on at once though? Maybe my rip of it sucks.
