There you can listen to Veil of a Maya.
Thanks. Good stuff, not very similar to Athiest, like I was expecting.

Moses 03-23-2006 09:35 PM

I prefer Celestial Voyage and Textures.

CV has an awesome riff and Textures has some really cool work all around.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-23-2006 09:36 PM

Veil Of Maya has always been my favourite.

Moses 03-23-2006 09:41 PM

That's what everyone says but I find it annoying for some reason.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-23-2006 09:42 PM

It's probably the catchiest on the album. That can be rare for tech-death. That's why I love Psycroptic.

Celestial Voyage would be my next favourite.

Jom 03-23-2006 09:43 PM
I thought you were talking about them when there was a jazz metal comp.
I was - people e-mailed me suggestions to put into the thread, as I asked them to.

Invicta_Veritas 03-23-2006 09:49 PM
havent heard the new CC yet, what's wrong with it?
I'm expecting good stuff actuall.

Horribly unevolving band.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-23-2006 09:56 PM

I see you finally got a name change.

I prefer Cynic.

Thankfully.

Hey if nobody minds, you guys should check out some demo instrumental tracks that we might record on our album..... http://www.myspace.com/forthisibleed

Anyway, I've been spending the past two days driving myself up the wall with music and guitar theory and vocal technique......I have a splitting headache, and what do I do? Blare some death metal.

NP: Cannibal Corpse: Savage Head Butchery

<<<<<has worse headache now.

Do you even have enough material that is good enough quality for a full-length album? It would be better if you did an EP.

Quality over quantity ftw.

Yes, Breaking Benjamin and Atreyu no longer rule all. :p

While you're all at it, check out my band (almost my solo project). We've got a full song on there (on which I do all the instruments + drum machine), a MIDI preview of an intro of a song I'm currently working on, and a funny *** techno song my friends made messing around.

Jev 03-24-2006 01:59 AM

I have blisters on my fingers :( I'm not used to bass yet. Typing hurts and I think writing will too.

blue3 03-24-2006 02:03 AM

I broke my friends' bass by accident today. How long have you been playing?

Invicta_Veritas 03-24-2006 03:12 AM
This is emo.
How in the bleeding hell did you come to that conclusion?

<<<<<<<<'s band hates emo with a passion.

superpeer 03-24-2006 04:42 AM

What's wrong with emo? I suspect that you hate something that you can't even identify.

And your lead guitar doesn't fit with your rhythm guitar, by the way. :\
In the first two songs, anyway, now listening to the others.

Heh, you still have a lot of work with your band it seems, I wouldn't record quite yet.

Invicta_Veritas 03-24-2006 04:49 AM
What's wrong with emo? I suspect that you hate something that you can't even identify.

Ok, my band hates emo. I haven't cared enough to check out any true emo bands outside of punk-type stuff (which I don't like anyway).

Yes, I know my lead doesn't fit his rythm. On Burn, I failed at creating a scale in the same key. In A Shade of Grey, All I wanted to do was shred. And In the two instrumentals, the lead only fits parts of the rythm, and is for the most part quite boring.........we're workin on it.......I've avoided music theory for most of my life, and what I did remember, I put to poor use.

I just got a royal kick in the *** from a couple fans and friends of ours who happen to be gods in theory and composition......hence the nonstop studying I've been doing as of late......

We also just now got a live drummer, so we can kick the drum programming out the window.......I'm going through some vocal training right now too. We are going through a lot of transitions and change as we write this new stuff that's going to be on the album; it should make it quite interesting........

I still don't understand the emo comment though.

Thank you for not being a fanboy or a total asshole. It seems we get one extreme or the other when it comes to our demo stuff.

superpeer 03-24-2006 04:57 AM

I think he was just trying to insult you, but I doubt he knows what emo is either.

Well, it's good that you're working on all of that, because these recordings are substandard. Keep up the good work, though.

Best band I've heard by an Mxer (admittedly, I haven't heard many) is Trevor's.

the2stranger 03-24-2006 05:20 AM
Oh yeah, they're one of the funniest bands I know. :D

Did you do that to your usertitle on purpose or did you get owned by the swear filter?
it's on purpose :p

some n00b indeed came in to the DT thread saying that 'Mike Pornoy is the best drummer alive.

so the filter changed it to animal photograpsoy, which I thought was pretty funny and deserved a spot in my usdertitle, which has been lame for a long time anyway.

tomorrow is visitor's day at my uni for aspiring students, I'll be going, getting free food and earning 25€ for being there a few hours, not too bad, espcially considering I'm there to promote drama, which is my favorite subject

That's not really a criticism when levelled at Cannibal Corpse.

My personal favourite is How Could I.

From the reviews I read, the album gets good credit.
So have you already heard it and have an opinion on it?

I'm quite curious

Yea, well, I don't know.

I love CC to death, but their lack of musical ingenuity is greatly uninspiring at times.

I bought it the other day, and it was like an exact repeat of gore obsessed. Not bad, but no different.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-24-2006 05:32 AM

Dude, it's Cannibal Corpse. What do you expect? 10 minute epics?

Invicta_Veritas 03-24-2006 05:35 AM
Dude, it's Cannibal Corpse. What do you expect? 10 minute epics?
That would be nice.......:p

No, not really....I guess I just expected maybe something more intelligent lyrically, or maybe a changeup in guitar style or something.....I don't know. Repetitiveness gets old quick.

But I still like 'em, though I don't know why.....

Bartender 03-24-2006 05:35 AM

No, I've not heard it :)

It's just more or less a fact that any given new Cannibal Corpse will closely resemble the old Cannibal Corpse. If I had the right symbols on my keyboard I could represent it in logical notation. They haven't exactly built a career on innovation, so I guess I'm just always surprised when they release a new one and a whole new swathe of people complain that it's no different to their old ones.

EDIT: ^What AR said.

theres nothing like spending 2 hours of your life to appease people on MX, only for them to say "it sucks"

i love this place

Jom 03-24-2006 08:29 AM

The MX populace is a very fickle bunch indeed - wherever you go. That's one of the appealing things about it, possibly.

I'm just here for the free food.

Nah, but seriously, here's one example: people will come into L&R in The Pit with a problem, others will give 'em advice, and then they'll just all be like "God what crappy advice you guys suck why can't life be easy."

Oh, you say life is supposed to be easy?

I need to read that one :p
