I'm surprised Pitchfork gave it a good rating.
I like it but some parts of the songs are a little boring.

Lichen is ok. Landing do it better though.

I'll agree with this on my first listen. But after a little while I started digging it harder. I mean its nothing above a 3.5 but I like it.

Antibalas - Security

well i can safely say that this is my favorite afrobeat album of 2007 thus far.

stream here http://www.juquebox.net/juque/Antibalas%20-%20Security%20(2007)/

produced by John McEntire of Tortoise. drums on first track = $$$

Eliminator 06-26-2007 12:35 AM

haha

margin0walker 06-26-2007 12:38 AM

the first song was gay
Yeah man. I'm thinking it might even form some sort of Ryan Adams trinity with Heartbreaker and Love is Hell.
Yeah I can see elements of Love is Hell in there. Although I think Love is Hell is some of his weakest work.

I'm diggin' the fact that I get to go see The Cure play a three hour set in August and my tickets arrived today.

br3ad_man 06-26-2007 01:14 AM

I got my ticket yesterday. Did you get GA?

Kyle 06-26-2007 04:48 AM

Antibalas album is pretty cool.

Bellini - Snowing Sun

I listened to this again to see if it was annoying as I thought previously. And it basically is. It's like mathrock with Demon Che (from Don Caballero) and an irritating female italian singer. It's good, but annoying and repetitive

Six Organs of Admittance-School of the Flower

The timing of the drums in the title song is ingenious.

Eliminator 06-26-2007 09:45 AM

i love pretty much everything in the song except for the repeating guitars
but then without those i guess the rest of it wouldn't work as well
so yeah

Anxious 06-26-2007 09:51 AM

I like the repeating guitars. Its like a Phillip Glass song with noise interuppting it.

Eliminator 06-26-2007 09:54 AM

depends on my mood
sometimes i dont enjoy it

Anxious 06-26-2007 09:56 AM

That goes for all Six Organs of Admittance.

The used to be obsessed with the Microphones last year, then I forgot about them.

I think I have everything he has made and School of the Flower is very different from everything else in my opinion.
I think I have everything he has made and School of the Flower is very different from everything else in my opinion.
From what I have of him (8 albums, not sure if its all) they either have the 40 minute drone albums or catchy guitar parts with jangly noise ones. School of the Flower is sorta a combination of the two. Not too much different but still good.

Bardo Pond - Dilate
Sun City Girls - Torch of the Mystics
Cul de Sac

I've been listening to a lot of Bardo Pond again, and Dilate is pretty amazing, it's so damn chilled. It drags a little though. SCG are cool, as are CdS

Natsumen - Never Wear Out Your Summer XXX !!!

I was expecting this to be a big pile of random noodling, but I'm glad it wasn't. It's pretty cool.
How are those 2 Stereolab albums? I've never heard those.
Transient is one of my favorites of theirs, not as diverse as their later stuff, but a pretty sweet homage to krautrock. Dots and Loops is cool, a couple really great songs and some more nebulous, noodly stuff with a strong contemporary electronic influence. "Miss Modular" is a perfect little pop song.

Recent listenings:

Arthur & Yu - In Camera
The Feed-back - The Feed-back
Bill Withers - Still Bill

BringHomeTheBacon 06-26-2007 09:11 PM

American Football - S/T
Very close to a 5/5.

Fugazi - Red Medicine
Definitely not my favorite of theirs, but still very good.
