About once every 2 times I go into my music store, I hear someone playing Stairway on guitar. It's freaking annoying too, because the majority of the time, they're not fingerpicking it.

They need a sign like on Wayne's World; "No Stairway. Denied!"
Fingerpicking is all I know... being a bassist and ocasional banjo player

I considered making one of those for Sophmore Hallway last year

Greetings and salutations. I've lurked around for a bit today.

I'll discuss briefly my participation in that wonderful Capture the Flag game that wasn't so spectacular. It was awkward, to say the least.

Apparently forty or so people were invited. Yeah, the first two rounds were eight-on-eight, and the last round was six-on-six.

What was even worse is that there was little-to-no competition.

This is how bad it was:

I single-handedly (yes, I'm serious) won the first match for my team on two bum hamstrings from baseball. I wasn't able to sprint, but I could do a quick jog. Yeah, no one could catch me. And I'm not friggin' Blazing Saddles when my legs are healthy, either.

I started off running to one side of the field unnoticed. As I was searching the back, someone turned around and was like, "Oh my God, get him!" So I ran around.

This humongous fat girl with about a dozen piercings on her face tried tagging me, but her fatass was so slow (either because she was a beached whale or because her piercings were slowing her down) that she couldn't catch up with me. This gave me a ton of time to search the trees for the flag.

Anyways, I get caught in the far corner of the field by one of the faster scene kids, so I go to the jail. As I'm walking back, I see the flag.

I get someone to tag me back, and I book back to my side of the field so I can get the flag. I stop on a dime and hurdle over some bushes, make a quick right, grab the flag, and start booking towards my team's zone. And by booking, I mean taking long hobbly-esque strides so that my hamstrings don't die.

As soon as I'm about fifty yards away from my zone, fat a-dozen-piercings bitch yells, "He's got the flag!" but by the time anyone bothered to turn around/see where I was, I was about twenty yards away. I did a cocky high-step football pose with the flag, and won. Yeah. And where's the rest of my team? All in jail except for one person who was playing "defense."

My team lost the second match because my team was lame and wouldn't let me out of jail, even though I was the only one running around searching for the freakin' flag.

So everyone except me was like OMG IT'S SOOOO HOT, so we had an intermission and went to 7-11 for Gatorade/Slurpee/water runs.

We came back and had the third game. My team dominated because we put the entire other team in jail. So, yeah. Pfft.

But it was kind of fun because I met my friends' friends from their university.

The drawback: my friends are "scene." Guess who these people were. Yeah.

///

I swear, I don't think I had the prerequisite number of piercings to play or the right colored shirt to play. It was odd. Don't get me wrong, they were nice people and pretty funny, but I felt out of place because even though I only knew four or five people total, I was kind of left out in all the conversations. Sweet.

So, then the afterparty is planned. I go home, shower, eat, etc. and drive over to it.

The house was a freakin' trainwreck. The afterparty was bizarre.

A lot of drinking and smoking, which I didn't partake in. The house was extremely musty from all the weed and cigarettes, and it was uncomfortably hot in a t-shirt and shorts. Anyways, I just kind of chilled in the living room watching a Primus DVD/CD thing. First Primus experience. What an odd band.

The videos reminded me of old-school Claymation, and everyone except the sobers were all like WHOAAAAAAAAAAAA.

But I did get to play darts against some drunks. I made sure to retrieve the darts for them and kept score (fairly, by the way... if I lost to a drunk person playing darts, I would quit games for life). The drunk people were hitting the mantel, the wall, the fireplace... kind of amusing. My one friend kept pretending to throw the darts at me and I would flinch, and she would shout in her drunken voice I'M NOT GOING TO HIT YOU!. But I wasn't taking any chances.

Oh, and when the party started turning more boring than it already was (when me and the other two sober people were left while the couples went off upstairs to do the deed or when people started drinking more), we left for Meijer and got popsicles.

We drove back, said that we had popsicles, and people got all excited.

Then, it was about 1:30 and I said fuck it and I left all the stoned drunk people to have fun sitting around listening to the same Primus album/DVD thing.

I went home and spoke with one of my friends who sobered up enough to drive home, and I talked to her for a bit. I was told that her brother (who was there for CTF but not for the brilliant afterparty) approved of me. Word, yo.

I'm particularly nervous for my ballgames tomorrow. My hamstrings are still not 100% from the pulls, but if we lose one more tomorrow, our season is finished. We play at 1, and if we win, we play at 4 to go to the championship. If we lose at 4, then we're done. Moot point, I know. I hope I actually get to play in the field this week after riding the bench because "they didn't want me to pull my hamstrings worse." Uh, hey guys, I can get in a crouch, move laterally, and throw the fucking baseball. I just can't sprint. LET ME PLAY.

/rant

And I see that everyone seems to be doing reasonably okay, barring a couple exceptions.

Sup to all.

Sounds like your day was much better than mine. I spent it working my ass off thanks to having unreliable people working with me.

Jamie 08-13-2005 08:54 PM

What exactly is this CTF?! It sounds really interesting and fun! Is it like real life Halo? :p

heh parties like that do get boring if you're not drinking.. so long as you left before everyone starts being sick ;)

(no one knows me, im from the bass forum. Hey! )

Jom 08-13-2005 08:59 PM

CTF = lazyass acronym for Capture The Flag, heh.

Welcome, by the way.

Also, I tried listening to your song from Scrubs, but it's way too staticy for me. Any way I can hear it cleared up at all?

Congratulations 08-13-2005 09:04 PM

Holy man I had a crappy evening. I was told by a buddy of mine that he gave his life to Jesus right. I'm not against religion or anything so I said that's cool, whatever a makes you happy right. Well, he invited me to some christian festival thing called "Son Fest" and he said there would be some tunes. I like some christian rock, so I thought I would check it out. It turned out to be some black(I have nothing against black people either) people from texas singing country gospel music. So I left. The only cool thing that happened there was one of the singers had the lowest voice ever, it was pretty neet-o.

hehe, im a gamer.. CTF is probably my favourite type of game to play (well, for Halo 2 it is!)

What do you mean by Staticy? I just gave it another listen and it doesnt sound distorted or a really low bitrate or anything.. hmmm...

and thanks for the welcome! :thumb:

Jom 08-13-2005 09:16 PM

I cleared up the static, one of my speakers was a bit messed up.

I tried Googling the more audible lyrics, but I kept coming up with religious sites.

"God performs miracles. He answers in so many ways. Hallelujah."

"I have so many answers in so many ways."

"Praise be to the Lord God Jesus Christ, who answers in so many ways. Amen."

So, sorry :-\

I don't think it's LostProphets, though. It doesn't sound like the singer's voice.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-13-2005 10:34 PM

Man. I'm listening to a live version of Tool's Parabola, only it's not live. Some fag just dubbed a 45 second loop of a crowd cheering, so every 45 seconds, there's this surge of screaming. It's quite comical.
I did a cocky high-step football pose with the flag, and won. Yeah. And where's the rest of my team?
In high school football I was all about two things when I scored:
1) the Desmond Howard Heisman pose
2) the goal post slam dunk
I guess I should expand that to four things, the last two happening in sequential order:
3) getting penalized for Unsportsmanlike Conduct (penalty assessed on the kickoff, of course)
4) getting screamed at by the coaches

Would I do it again? Yes.

So holy crap, I had quite a wild night. Me and a friend went to a party at some guy's house. Me and my friend weren't friends with this guy, but we were friendly, so he wouldn't object to it.

Well, there were a lot of people there...half the people who I graduated with, basically and then a bunch of underclassman, and it was like what you'd expect from a party. Lots of drinking, horsing around, that kind of thing.

For some reason or another, two drunk guys started getting into it. They started getting into a shoutfest over both some girl both of them wanted AND because of some "beef" they had back in high school (I don't remember what it is exactly). Then one of the guys lands a hard right on the other and everybody is stunned. The second guy tackles the first guy and starts pounding on him and a brawl starts up for real, like, people randomly attacking each other (apparently, the two guys who were fighting had posses or something).

My mom and stepdad always told me that if I was arrested, I was on my own, so I got the hell out of there as soon as I could. Two of my friends (the one who went with me and another one who was there) bailed and after we grabbed some Wendy's (what, we were hungry) I dropped 'em off, and here I am now.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-13-2005 10:48 PM

 I remember this one guy in my math class who would always tell me about his drunken episodes. He said that once, he got in a fight with some guy he didn't know because he was drinking his beer or something, so my friend threw a cookie monster lunchbox at the other guy.

ATM 08-13-2005 10:58 PM

That's not very hardcore, Jake.

So, I am back from my good times weekend...

Firstly, I went to the races with my girlfriend and her parents. Her father scored us tickets to the Hedley pavilion (a fairly prominent developer her father works for) so we had a place out of the sun. I wasn't really interested in betting, but I do like horses, so it was a nice thing to see them racing.

I also have to mention the free food (fairly standard Aussie stuff) and beer on hand, which was fairly fast in disappearing. Especially after another builder's pavilion was accepted into the Hedley one, on account of there being not much of a tent at all. Funniest thing ever... picture 60 blokes trying to squeeze under an umbrella whilst avoiding spilling their beers. :p

So, back to my girlfriend's house, where I spent the afternoon playing monopoly with her and her brother. 3 hours later (:p) we went out to dinner with 4 of our closer friends. It was really nice, and we all went back to one of their houses, to watch Pulp Fiction and the Holy Grail, and eat nachos.

Altogether, it was a really great time. Also, my AFL team won! \m/ But the Aussie's faltered in the Bledisloe. :upset:

Well, unlike you base Americans, Aussie society has evolved to the point where the annual horse racing events (the big ones) are general piss-ups.
