Futuro 05-02-2006 12:01 PM

Holy crap! The fills around the 7 minute mark of 10,000 days sounds so much better in losless quality :amaze: Ugh I feel bad for the MP3 collectors of this album.

EDIT: I forgot to say which song.... /Feels dumb

EDIT again to CHE: Yeah quality is much better.

kurrpt 05-02-2006 12:11 PM

what song are you referring to?

thats another reason i wanted to buy this album (quality)

ShadowMan 05-02-2006 12:32 PM

I actaully went to Circuit City first, who had it in their ad Sunday, but had none, and looked like they didn't even stock it. Best Buy ftw.

denboy 05-02-2006 12:44 PM

Noone's said if the "timmayh" clip is still in Right In Two

kurrpt 05-02-2006 12:45 PM

i havent been able to even take my disk out of my copy. I went from work to the mall, back to work.

I wont be able to listen to the CD on the way home. I still have a disk fukking STUCK in my head unit :upset:

CaptainWaits 05-02-2006 12:55 PM
LOL

I got it at future shop for 10 bucks today, gotta love Canadian currency too... works out to about $8.50 American
heh, yeh. I knew it was 10 bucks at Future Shop too, but I like supporting my A&B, so I basically buy everything there....still haven't gotten it yet though. I'll go get it when I'm home from school...

Futuro 05-02-2006 01:10 PM

I found out today That during triad the guy who normally came out to jam on the Roto toms was Dannys tech.

That has got to suck to be danny tech with those paiste shells. Each bass drum is 100 pounds each.

Against Miik! 05-02-2006 01:48 PM

I have a 50$ Best Buy gift card, so i'll probably wait for a few more albums to come out, then stock up. I already downloaded Tool, and its epic, but I just want the case.

Toaster 05-02-2006 01:48 PM

Awesome. Got it at HMV for $9.00 Canadian. I love the glasses, they make the artwork leap out at you!

And the quality is definitely better than the mp3's I have. Vicarious in particular sounds far better, it has much more depth.

CaptainWaits 05-02-2006 01:49 PM
Awesome. Got it at HMV for $9.00 Canadian. I love the glasses, they make the artwork leap out at you!
Wow. Even cheaper at HMV

I didn't expect that....

kurrpt 05-02-2006 01:53 PM

so i paid more than EVERYONE. GREAT.....

Toaster 05-02-2006 01:58 PM
Wow. Even cheaper at HMV

Actually, my local newspaper ran a coupon for it. They looked at it for like 10 minutes before they accepted it. :p

kurrpt 05-02-2006 02:07 PM

Knifeboy, it STILL says "timmay", no kidding

denboy 05-02-2006 02:26 PM

Haha.. that's awesome, and horrible at the same time.. Horrible because I won't be able to listen to that song without laughing everytime

VSX 05-02-2006 03:03 PM

Hey Che - I also shelled out 16.99, but not even a rebate offer!

Not like I would have taken it though...

erk5000 05-02-2006 03:07 PM

i got mine for 9.99 tax free on base. Woot thank god for being a Marine.

Otherside 05-02-2006 03:19 PM

Picked up the album today, listening to it now. I couldn't help but laugh at the chorus of The Pot :\

Esoteric_Creator 05-02-2006 03:51 PM

The album is finally in my greasy little fingers, and I couldn't be more excited. And yes, the sticker is now on my art folder along with the rest of my Tool sticker memorabilia..

At first glance the album casing is something worth keeping for awhile. The specs look pretty sweet on the cover, and they become even better the moment you open the case. The front cd art makes me reminisce looking at the Lateralus cd, and fond memories come rushing in. Though, it's a totally different trip the moment you start looking through the album art..

F u c king awesome to say the least! This fits perfectly, and I'm sucking it up. This makes my wait for the actual album all worth it. I'm not going to lie though, I couldn't for the life of me get the optics to work.. lol. 20 minutes it took me...20! But, eventually I learned you have to let your eyes do it themselves and stop letting the brain take over..

Listening to the album at first was something really to experience. And besides Vicarious, WfM/10,000days really spilled all over me. It's just an amazing piece, and only when reading along with the lyrics can you really appreciate it. Though, I found that with this album you really have to read along with the music inorder to fully understand it...otherwise people will take it at face value, and not appreciate what there is to take from the songs..

This is a truly overwhelming and different album, and truthfully I expected no different from Tool..

Sadly though, I want more.. lol. But until then I'll take into mind that there will be another album later in the future...and how do I know this..? I recently read an interview where Maynard states that this album is closer to the record the band wants to make...in other words, this band is not done evolving..

Deconstruction 05-02-2006 04:26 PM

It is out now..I thought the case was cool. I mean, I loved it before it came out and I love it now.

Syncratic 05-02-2006 04:29 PM

DRAT!

I won't be getting it today. However, tomorrow is a strong possibility.

I'll have it before the week is out, though.

BlindWriting 05-02-2006 05:05 PM

I listened to it for the first time today, all the way through. Very good, but as for each Tool album, my first listen came along with a bit of an unfulfilled feeling. But I'm sure that with repeated listens the same thing will happen with Aenima and Lateralus and I'll love it.

Oh, and get this:
I was listening to Wings For Marie, and the moment I heard the main guitar line, I was pleasantly suprised. Anyone who's ever been to a Lateralus tour-era Tool show or heard a bootleg (preferably the Oklahoma 2002 show) will recognize that guitar line as the thing that Adam played right before their shows ended with the song Lateralus. Go to your Oklahoma Pt. 2 videos and see for yourself. Interesting.

BlindWriting 05-02-2006 05:09 PM

Oh and the packaging rules. The sterioscopic 3D stuff > everything.

Blizzink 05-02-2006 05:18 PM

At what time does the "TIMMY" thing come in?

deadohiosky9 05-02-2006 05:54 PM

So I bought 10,000 Days right after school and came home, set up my stereo in my room, arranged all the speakers, plugged in the surround sound speakers, and unraveled the plastic covering of 10,000 Days. I was stunned to say the least.

I put in the CD and flipped through the booklet and was amazed. I then flipped through the booklet while staring through the lenses or whatever you call them. Wow. That's the only word I can think to describe it. I flipped through it a good number of times, by the third time I had finally got my eyes to make it work right. I felt like they were crossing, or I was cross-eyed or something, but when they finally worked it was incredible. I looked through the booklet numerous times afterwards, and just stared through those lenses at the artwork while 10,000 Days played on.

It was during the actual song 10,000 Days that I began to slip into a trance. I put away the CD case and just layed on my bed, in this trance like state. My mind didn't wander, my eyes didn't wander, I only heard and felt the music and that was all. It was a state of pure lucidity, as I began to close my eyes. I kept my eyes closed and deepened my trance like state, one might call it meditating, some of you might think I'm a bit weird, but oh well.

The music filled my room and seemed to encompass everything around me. I was hearing it from all directions, because of my speaker setup. Not to mention that everything sounded 1 million times better through these speakers than the leak did through my computer speakers. The quality was incredibly improved and I heard things I didn't hear before. Everything sounded so much better and my altered state made it even more interesting. Although my eyes were closed and I was incredibly relaxed/focused, I was only hearing Tool and was totally focused on the music.

Certain songs really came alive for me, such as Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned (which blended together much better than the leak, I didn't even know when the track changed), I really enjoyed that song before but it was much better hearing it this time around. I noticed a lot more in Viginti Tres as well, and I actually enjoy that song now.

The one most noticeable thing was Danny's drumming. Now that I was listening through stereo speakers, his drumming became much more intense. Whereas I had previously perceived it to be more in the background, it really came to the front now. I could hear his drumming go from one speaker to the other, from one side to the other. It was very impressive and I noticed a lot of things in his drumming that I hadn't before. Some subtle uses of electronics in songs that I hadn't heard before, etc.

Overall, it was truly an amazing experience and I can confidently say that even though I had heard the leak, it didn't take away any excitement/anticipation or withdraw anything from my experience with this album. After it was over I felt like I had heard the most amazing piece of music ever (I'm not too sure if this is true, thats just how it felt), and while I was listening to it all I could think was "God damn this blows Lateralus out of the water" (I don't know if that is true either, once again its just what I was feeling/thinking at the moment).

All I can say is Wow.

Wow.

incubliss 05-02-2006 06:20 PM

The one of Danny is my favourite, and the one of the man and the sticks and balls on the end? The fire one too! I love it. Best booklet/artwork i've ever seen.

Daven 05-02-2006 06:20 PM

My eyes cant get used to the lenses. :upset:

Toaster 05-02-2006 06:21 PM

I think the one of the dissectional-looking guy with the fire snake coming from his chest is the best.

Daven, just look straight ahead, don't focus your eyes at all. Don't even try to look at the picture. You can only see it when you try not to see it.. if that makes any sense.

Daven 05-02-2006 06:24 PM

Ohhh I'll try that, hopefully it'll work. Thanks.

Those are my favorites along with the main coverart thats at the end of the booklet in color, its so f'ucking trippy.

One thing I can't stand about this album is the wretched creaking everytime I open the cd case. Just for that, I give this album a .5 out of 100.

Haha, I almost feel bad for opening it, it sounds I'm ruining the casing every time.

Yeah man, Tool suck.

I swear though, I had three hairs in my packaging.

My girlfriend joked they might be Maynards pubes.

Lunch 05-02-2006 06:57 PM

I'm a little more than half-way through my first listen, and I must saw I'm not very impressed yet. I'm hoping something will keep me coming back to the album so that it has a chance to grow on me, because I really want to be into it. The case was worth the price of admission already though, so I'm not really disappointed.

Nothing in the first half of the album has your interest?

That's a shame. I'd recommend some songs like Sober, Prison Sex, Stinkfist and 46&2, along with Schism and Parabola to get you into Tool's sound.

I seem to remember listening to the entire Ænima album a good few times before I actually even started to like Tool's sound. From there they've become one of my very favourite bands, maybe that'd work for you too.

I got 10,000 Days for £9.97 from "Music Zone" after checking out HMV where it was like £12.

NCToolFan012 05-02-2006 07:10 PM

This album is simply amazing. The glasses+artwork are simply stunning as well as the music. Only problem with the music is that it takes a while to get used to. First listen I had to the CD I thought Tool had let me down, which had happened every single album since they change so much after every one. After a few listens, I must say that "The Pot" is the greatest Tool song I have ever heard. Along with that are songs like Wings for Marie, 10,000 Days, and Right In Two which contain so much power.

Otherside 05-02-2006 07:14 PM

Where in NC you live guy? I picked my copy from School Kids in Chapel Hill, you anywhere near there?

Lunch 05-02-2006 07:16 PM

I've recently gotten pretty big into Lateralus, so I thought this album was coming along at just the right time for me. We'll have to see how it goes though.
