Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear the Heart...
Swans - Children of God
DJ Shadow - Private Press

Swans really scares me.

ATM 06-23-2007 12:25 PM

Swans are some dark ****.

Bukowski 06-23-2007 12:57 PM

I'm seeing Michael Gira (Swans frontman) in October. Supporting the Boredoms! **** yes.
Everything they do is great.
Truth.

over the last 3 days:

Fleeting Joys - Despondant Transponder
Boredoms - Super AE
Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance
The Smiths - s.t
Sonic Youth - SYR 1
Merzbow, Jim O'Rourke, Carlos Giffoni - Electric Dress
This Heat - Deceit

that Fleeting Joys album = the most blatant ripoff of Loveless ever.

Eliminator 06-23-2007 01:03 PM

SYR1 rules.

Anxious 06-23-2007 01:07 PM

Swans are very good. Terrifying.

Bukowski 06-23-2007 01:22 PM

Beautiful Child is my favourite Swans song. It makes Flipper seem like a life-loving hippie band. They can be brutal, and I'm not man enough to listen to them that often.

Boilermaker 06-23-2007 01:24 PM

I need to get some of their stuff. It seems like something I might like.

The Evens - S/T

Just saw them last night, and they were incredible. Ian was pretty cool, but it was kind of annoying because he did his political talks every couple of songs. I hadn't heard them before, and it was only 5 dollars so I decided to go. I met Ian and gave him my bands demo, and he said he'd listen to it. Really good show. I'd recommend seeing them if you can get the chance.

Flying Saucer Attack-Mailing List cdr

A gem I found on slsk.

Kyle 06-23-2007 01:29 PM

Hey Bukowski, do you know if Michael Gira is supporting Boredoms on all those UK dates? I'm going to the one in Cardiff and don't know who's supporting yet. It's annoying that Arcade Fire are in town that day aswell, but I will have seen them 3 times by then and I'm not too fussed about watching them play arena shows.

Also, did you decide which uni you're going to yet? (I think it was you I was talking to about this

I really hate bands that do that.

I've always thought of Ian MacKaye as too preachy, although I do have a lot of respect for Dischord Records. Basically, certain things about MacKaye I admire a lot, others are just annoying as hell. The Evens are pretty good though.

Yea, same here. Also there was a guy in the front row taping and Ian got a little fussy about it, but he let him tape it. It was a really great show overall. The drummer was pretty ****ing good also, lots of cool drum effects too.

Anxious 06-23-2007 01:34 PM

I don't like Ian MacKaye at all.

Yes, I love that album. I'm a pretty big fan of theirs, I have all of their stuff except one or two eps that have never seen the light of day. New Lands is my favorite album of theirs.

wayne coyne did that shit when i saw the lips and it was pretty gay

i just wanted him to shut the fuck up and play music

Anxious 06-23-2007 01:44 PM

Wayne Coyne did that? Thats the last person I would expect.

Boilermaker 06-23-2007 01:46 PM

At War with the Mystics was too political I think. I don't mind it for a while but the fact that people think they can get Bush out of office still is pretty sad. That being said, I still think that AWWTM is pretty good.

I have no idea, I know he's supporting them in Glasgow and Aberdeen. Even if he doesn't support them where you seem em, it's the Boredoms, so it'll still rule.

As for Uni, I decided I'm waiting a year before I go. Basically, I didn't feel ready for 4 years at Uni, and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do either. Also, I was too lazy to fill in that UCAS stuff :)

So I'm going to college for a year to do something nice n easy and it'll be next year before I go to Uni. I still want to go to London, but I have no idea where I'll end up. Cardiff is probably going be one of my choices, though - it seems like a good student city. I think I'm going to an open day down there, on 14th September. I'll know more about everything after that. If there's any good bands playing in Cardiff on or around that date, lemme know.

yeah he did that when I saw them too. He made a big deal about Bush through the whole show, which was annoying, and they ended with a cover of War Pigs by black sabbath.

my dad was so pissed off that he saw them instead of the chili peppers at the virgin festival because he's pretty much a conservative and was used to the shows back in the 60s and 70s where people just played music

he was yelling at him to shut up while he was talking

i loled

pixiesfanyo 06-23-2007 02:15 PM

dude people in the 60s complained all the time

But Cardiff is pretty good too (especially with Bristol on it's doorstep), and the student media here is unrivalled in my oppinion.

Hmm no gigs announced then as of yet. Fall of Troy and Horse the Band are playing in Newport on the 28th which I'd be pshyched about, but FoT's new albums sucks so much. I'll still go I guess. Oh and Misfits on the 20th, but I can;t really be bothered with that.

Bukowski 06-23-2007 02:44 PM

I think Dez Cadena (black flag) is playing in whatever the hell The Misfits' line-up is like nowadays. Even so, I definitely wouldn't waste my time with that one.

September seems pretty weak at the moment, although August and October is good.

Anxious 06-23-2007 02:48 PM

Sitting in a room doing nothing but listening to Can's Halleluwah is awesome.

I had not thought about the album being political until I saw them live and wayne went on a really long political rant before Yeah Yeah Yeah Song.

Anxious 06-23-2007 03:51 PM

This has been a classic albums day. Tago Mago, Spiderland then The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

On the Slint note, Im making an effort to listen to the lyrics. It forces you to turn it up like hell which makes the album WAYY better than I used to think. In 5.1, the vocals get the center channel so I'm enjoying this more than I usually have.

Sure, whatever. I don't care about internal band politics. I do know that Fugazi has Ian's whiny voice. I like it in Minor Threat but it doesnt transfer well.

Guy's voice is whinier

Anxious 06-23-2007 06:34 PM

Yeah I guess that wasn't a good word to describe it since I really like Guy in Rites of Spring.

Boilermaker 06-23-2007 07:03 PM

Guy's voice is different in Rites of Spring from his voice in Fugazi. I don't know how, it just is.

Eliminator 06-23-2007 07:05 PM

Best Fugazi song has Guy on vocals.
