Honestly I've never seen what people like in Agalloch. I usually like the kind of style they play, but they've never done it for me.

i think they retain black metal elements, even if they're not a black metal band, and that black metal is the easiest genre to fit them in. i dunno. they're hard to categorize.

There aren't many black metal elements in their music.

I'd say it's closer to doom metal than bm.
But it's pretty much a mix between doom, black, post rock and maybe a little ambient and folk sprinkled on top.

I've always thought it to be strange that they're categorized under 'viking' in the recommendations thread.
