The Inner Mounting Flame has flow, but it lacks gems that were on Birds of Fire.

What are your favorite tracks of BOF? Mine are Birds of Fire and Miles Beyond.
Same with me ;)

I don't know how many times we've discussed Frank Zappa, or if we ever have, but he's awesome. Apostrophe is a great album, listened to it yesterday.

What band are you two talking about?

Mahavishnu Orchestra.

I love Zappa also. Hot Rats is one of my all time favorite albums. Apostrophe is hilarious, but keeps it's musical ingenuity.

magicbus 01-22-2005 03:37 PM

Those are the two albums of his that I've listened to. My dad has more, but I forget which ones. Zappa's one of his favs.

Frank Zappa was an interesting guy...

Classic Rock refers to a time period, not a genre.

Frank Zappa is a guy we could talk about forever.

Mostly because he made about 3,000 albums.

I love what I have of him, but there's still a lot of material I'd like to have.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 01-22-2005 04:36 PM

Hey magicbus sign on.

Would anyone happen to have any Quicksilver Messenger Service that could be sent over AIM?

Sheik isn't his best material, methinks. You'd be best off getting some stuff from the Mothers (Freak Out! or We're Only In It For the Mothers), and for solo stuff Cheap Thrills and Over-Nite Sensation would be a good start.

Woodstock 01-22-2005 04:48 PM

Hot Rats, Freak Out, or Apostrophe are good starters.

I've only heard one song by QMS, but I really liked it, I forget what it was called though
The lyrics went kinda like:
Now I don't ever want to spoil your party babe,
or tell you where to go or what to do
all I ever wanted to do was know you
and maybe hope you could know me too

IAJP 01-22-2005 05:04 PM

Does anyone agree that The Queens Of The Stoneage are one of the best new classic rock influenced bands?
I was listening to them before and I realised how much they sound like zeppelin, the who, the doors etc.

I have no idea. I've heard maybe 6 QMS songs. They have long jams and poppy Beatle-esque songs.
