if you're into bombastic shit that goes nowhere. sure.
all ASMZ is different, its hard to compare this new one to something like He Has Left Us Alone
not really, i mean He Has Left Us Alone is a good record. the new one isn't.
nah they are both good, just in very different ways.
Lol I've been giving this album out like free candy and I haven't even listened to it yet.
lol

'He Has Left Us Alone' was a great record because it basically took the GYBE sound and broke it down to its minimal requirements. I'm not so much a fan of GYBE after F#A# Infinity (the ep is pretty good) but ASMZ has always been kind of a light parallel to the 'epicness' of GYBE. 'Horses in the Sky' kind of changed that, but at least they were doing it acoustically and making it seem very sincere. '13 Blues' ****s that all up, because it has the same type of lyrics (people died to make this, punks have good dreams or whatever) but it is just bombastic as **** and lame for that reason. also, the crescendos aren't even interesting because there is little to no dynamic interplay on the record. i wish they would've just not gone that route, but i guess it was pretty obvious they were.
Yeah but if they would have done this album acoustic instead of bombastic it just would have been another Horses In The Sky. In my opinion its bombastic and noisy without sounding like garbage and it seems like a natural progression to go from something like Horse In The Sky to something like 13 Blues For Thirteen Moons.
I don't really think people should compare GY!BE and ASMZ because they're to completely different entities. GY!BE style of slow steady epicness that built up to one final climax is completely different from ASMZ style of piano/string interplay epicness. And with this album they move away from piano and go more with guitars and drums and it works because they're using guitar and drums in a more traditional "rock" way which is a 180 from what GY!BE did with guitar and drums. |
there wasn't any piano on 'Horses in the Sky' was there?
The new This Will Destroy You sounds kinda good.
there isn't any new This Will Destroy You is there?

I'm with pixies, the new ASMZ is pretty lame so far.
Took a nap to Lift Your Skinny Fists last night after 6 hours worth of calculus homework. It was nice.

I just discovered post rock today thanks to Pandora.com, I'm glad I did, I'm really bored of my old music.

It's only a matter of time before you get bored with post rock too.

Unless I listen to it in moderation.

Godspeed doesn't though, and that's really all you need np: Moya
not for me, i still listen to bands like sigur rós and mono as much as i did two years ago. there's a lot more to the music of those kind of bands than most of the other music i usually listen to (mainly metal/rock) that i don't think i could ever get bored of them. |
Post Rock is a very introspective genre, I agree.
How much you enjoy the genre has a lot to do with the mood you're in.
