Apparently Wino was a few people behind me at the Mastadon show, I had no idea :-/

Hardhat 02-19-2007 06:38 PM

Isole has my favorite vocals in the genre.

:o Shame you didn't notice.

the2stranger 02-21-2007 07:37 AM

I love going to small shows, cause you almost always have the chance to talk to the artists afterwards.

Phototropic 02-21-2007 02:59 PM

yeah i much prefer smaller shows to big ones

plus most of the swansea bands are amazing so I'd choose them over a lot of bands from elsewhere anyway so i don't often feel the need to go to a bigger show

Brant Bjork always seems to have intimate shows, went to see one in Cardiff and it rocked, hes so chatty and cool

Hardhat 02-21-2007 07:42 PM

What's a good Novembers Doom album to start on? I have To Welcome The Fade and I'm not really liking it, maybe there's something better?

The reason I'm trying to get into them is because my guitar teacher was going to start a band with the Rhythm guitarist for Novembers Doom, but they broke up upon meeting each other. Just thought I'd check out the band, though.

Poofy 666 02-21-2007 07:58 PM

Go eat a cupcake fatty.

Finally checked Boris out. I got Pink. Which one should I get next?

Bartender 02-21-2007 08:27 PM

Depends which bits of what they do you like. Akuma No Uta is like a condensed Pink (or at least, on hearing Pink, it struck me as an expanded Akuma No Uta; I assume it works both ways), only much better. Feedbacker is my other favourite, and it's basically one 45 minute song, drenched in feedback.

I prefer The Pale Haunt Departure and The Novella Reservoir (the new one). You're going to Powerfest, right?

Hardhat 02-22-2007 06:33 AM

Yeah, I am. That's the other reason I wanted to get into them.

pate 02-22-2007 08:45 AM

They're an excellent band and cool guys. :thumb:

This post is pure gold.

If you want more traditional-esque doom (it's not trad doom at all...it's just more doom-like), Amid It's Hallowed Mirth or Old Sculpted Ivy And Stone Flowers are pretty cool. Personally, I think their new one is the best I've heard so far though.

King Crimson really aren't stoner or doom, so far as I know. Those look like good videos, though.

Nuke Broadcast 02-22-2007 07:50 PM

king crimson, the new DOOM METAL GAWD

Jondur 02-23-2007 04:07 AM

They're closer than Sunn O))

ATM 02-23-2007 11:39 AM

Listening to Swallow the Sun for the first time, I like it quite a bit.

Shattered_Future 02-23-2007 01:21 PM

One of my favorite bands ever now. I love the atmosphere they create.

Anyone like March Into The Sea?

knuckleduster 02-23-2007 02:25 PM

Wow, awesome vocals.

RetiredAt21 02-23-2007 04:03 PM

I like the vocals, too.

Hardhat 02-24-2007 10:36 AM

Just posted an Evoken review: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review_11189

If anyone hasn't heard of Evoken, get them now. Awesome band.

knuckleduster 02-24-2007 01:04 PM

All the Evoken I have is Quietus. How does that compare with Antithesis?

Hardhat 02-24-2007 01:08 PM

Both are great. But I've listened to Antithesis alot more.

RetiredAt21 03-02-2007 11:54 AM

Jeez, post about a band that isn't Ahab and look what happens to this thread! :p

http://www.myspace.com/thezoroaster

Check them out if you don't listen to them already.

Elliptical Ion 03-02-2007 12:06 PM

Bongzilla and Bongripper are two of my favorite stoner metal bands. Bongripper is more stoner instrumental though.

RetiredAt21 03-02-2007 01:25 PM

March Into The Sea is one of my favorites.
Bongzilla and Bongripper are two of my favorite stoner metal bands. Bongripper is more stoner instrumental though.
Bongzilla is excellent.

RetiredAt21 03-02-2007 09:20 PM

I've never listened to Bongzilla. Do they sound similar to any other band?

Iron Bars 03-03-2007 04:22 AM

Their bassplayer is in Weedeater where he does vocals but I never checked out Bongzilla (which I should because of the cool name alone).

Phototropic 03-03-2007 06:12 AM

Bongzilla are a mixed bag

great grooves and riffs, useless vocals

the2stranger 03-03-2007 07:07 AM

I really enjoy Bongzilla as well as the vocals.
They fit the atmospthere really well, somehow.

I should get more Bongzilla.
I've never listened to Bongzilla. Do they sound similar to any other band?
I guess the closest comparison would be to Electric Wizard, but even more fuzzed out.

the2stranger 03-03-2007 08:38 AM

I must say as much as I love EW, I like the production on Bongzilla better.
Cause the fuzzed-ness on EW can sometimes get in the way of the actual music.

Still both bands are as cool as the bees knees.

RetiredAt21 03-03-2007 09:03 AM
I guess the closest comparison would be to Electric Wizard, but even more fuzzed out.
I love Electric Wizard, so I guess I'll check these guys out.

the2stranger 03-03-2007 09:19 AM

The blues influence is more appearant with Bongzilla, so that's pretty cool.

Elliptical Ion 03-03-2007 09:22 AM

The only two albums I have from them are Amerijuancan and Gateway. I'd love to get hold of Stash, Apogee and their '98 EP.
