I like the new album. I think I need to give it a few more listens though 'cause I haven't able to really get into each and every song. The concept itself, I think, is awesome though. I still feel like it sometimes incorporates elements of some past releases. I like it ..though I don't think (as of now) that it can ever actually become my favorite NIN release.

Kage 04-17-2007 09:08 PM

New album's great even though most songs follow the same formula.

One crappy formula. That's my reason.

I'd rather listen to With Teeth, honestly.

I went to this page to see what the big deal was. I think it's somewhere in the Year Zero booklet..and they have this huge thread over at ETS about it. Anyway, it asks for a name and your phone number. Put it in and you'll get a call within the next minute. Heh, I kinda freaked out at first but it's really no big deal. Kinda weird though...I actually put in my roomie's numbers and scared the hell out of them for a bit. The page will actually tell you whether they answer or not. If they do, you'll be redirected to another page.

Anyway, under name you can just put "password is resistance"....that'll be the password you give when you're asked for it. *sigh* Wonder what else will come out of this. I'm not even going to try going back to ETS.

Killtacular 04-17-2007 10:59 PM

[with teeth] is pure poop, honestly.

I like Year Zero a thousand times more already.

Dude that's ****ing awesome. I'm really creeped out by this concept to be completely honest.

And I just ****ing scared my friends with that phone number.

misunderstood 04-17-2007 11:17 PM

^Yeah, this whole concept is very creepy, actually. I keep telling myself that it's fake, though..and that this can never happen...at least not during my lifetime. Heh, I have to find a way to sleep at night. :p
"17% will be listed as dead" ...
One of my friends answered the call and ran out of his room practically screaming. Hehe, it was funny to say the least.

Kage 04-17-2007 11:19 PM

The way Trent has set it up with the websites and phone numbers is very realistic to me. And the resistance chats and the wiretapping...that's not at all improbable. This concept could have bombed but it's been pulled off really well.

misunderstood 04-17-2007 11:25 PM

Yeah, no kidding. I don't think just anyone could have pulled this whole thing off without failing miserably. And all of this just makes Year Zero even better for me.

Kage 04-17-2007 11:26 PM

Agreed 100% I've been bantering with some of my friends about this and it's very exciting. We're really getting into it, calling the phone numbers and such. It's just a really cool idea that has never been done before, at least not to this extent. And it just makes me want to listen to the album over and over.

Either a brilliant marketing technique or a new art form. Or both.

misunderstood 04-17-2007 11:36 PM

According to Reznor, it's a new art form, but I'm more than positive he also figured it would be a good marketing technique. I mean, I had never heard of any band leaving USB drives in bathroom stalls with a bunch of songs from an upcoming album...that right there was awesome, heh.
By the way, have you tried calling that 866 number back? I think it's the same number that is on the back of the CD case. I wonder if they'll answer.

NP: The Great Destroyer

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-17-2007 11:40 PM

20 years from now, this album will be a centerpiece to intoductory sociology courses. Mark my words. Trent is a ****ing genius.

misunderstood 04-17-2007 11:49 PM

^That and American Dilemmas or Political Issues in America..Dammit, I'll have to come back to school just to study that.:p

Yep, the 866 number is the same as on the back of the CD case. At first I thought that was a real thing from the government. :p

I guess the gov't was trying to trick rebel resistance members into giving themselves up with that website.

I'm a little paranoid now. o_O

magicbus 04-18-2007 11:17 AM

Is there something I can read up on the concept and get an idea of the whole thing? You guys are making it sound really interesting.

repcak 04-18-2007 12:07 PM

i agree with magicbus... i wish i could phone those numbers, but i don't have that much money to phone to the USA.

what are those calls? what are they saying... tell me :)

Polyamarous 04-18-2007 12:09 PM

This album si ace, but there was a stupid amount of hype with all these silly links and websites and leaks, and it isn't as good as I though it was going to be.

Porklips 04-18-2007 01:48 PM

Is it just me or does the Great Destroyer make your bowels loosen?

misunderstood 04-18-2007 02:23 PM

Well, I don't know if this will really help you understand everything that's been going on. It's just too much stuff..but look around and see what you find. It's all summarized on there.
Is it just me or does the Great Destroyer make your bowels loosen?
I agree. But in a good way, right?

niobium 04-18-2007 05:16 PM

I really love the art/marketing thing Trent is doing. Totally unprecedented. It's just a shame he doesn't have the music to back it up.

magicbus 04-18-2007 05:43 PM

I called the phone number, very cool. I also did some reading up on the wiki. This whole thing is pretty nuts.

Kage 04-18-2007 05:47 PM

The links and websites aren't silly, it's really cool, and if you'd just suspend your tough guy, not-impressed image for a second maybe you could enjoy what's going on rather than playing Mr. Unimpressed.

Syncratic 04-18-2007 05:57 PM

If you guys haven't heard, the ARG (alternate-reality game) regarding the album is supposed to go on for another 18 months....I'm excited, frankly.

123 to this. Do you know if it's supposed to all culminate in Year Zero part 2 or is that just one step along the way?

Syncratic 04-18-2007 06:31 PM

Nothing has been confirmed that the next album WILL be 'Year Zero 2,' so to speak...I hope it will be.

And if it is, then yes.

niobium 04-18-2007 06:53 PM

Year One?

Kage 04-18-2007 07:14 PM

Year Zero part two has been confirmed though.

Syncratic 04-18-2007 07:33 PM

Really? I wasn't sure...I hope they don't call it "Year Zero Part 2"...even "Year One" wouldn't be too bad.

Huber 04-18-2007 08:03 PM

I just got the album. Pretty rad. I like it much better than With Teeth. I tried that freerebelalert thing on a bunch of people but the only one who answered knew about it. :(
