*Wants crit so decides to suck up*

I've read some of your previous stuff and it seems pretty darn good (ok that wasn't a suck up really). Any idea whether you'll be returning to writing soon?

drumass04 01-28-2006 10:52 AM

*Goes and finds a piece to crit :p*

It's not a case of not wanting to, it's more a case of not having any inspiration and a lot of writers block.

Hopefully it won't last too long. I go through periods of stagnancy, and then I have a monsoon of poems.

Tim
Anyone heard of Federico Garcia Lorca?
I do, but I need to read a lot more by him.

I also enjoy... uh... he died a little while ago... Jaime Sabines.

Pretty interesting latin-american poetry.

MidnightHysteria 02-01-2006 01:34 PM

whoa... what a dead community thread.

After a brief hiatus, I'm proud to announce that I'm back in the forum and I am also writing lyrics again. I'm about half-done with something now, so I'll be sure to post it when I finish.

TojesDolan 02-03-2006 04:22 PM

I've been writing.

I mean:

"Lady sue,
Lady dressed in blue"

is probably the only line I've really come up with over the time, really, thinking of a funk/jazz kind of vibe, but since the whole idea isn't structured or anything like that, then al I can really say is I'm attempting to enter pop rock melodies. You know, to sell myself out.

That and a really, really awful death-metal, cannibal-corpse-esque lyric that just doesn't deserve going out to the public.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-03-2006 04:51 PM

You should listen to Sigur Ros, just cause.

ATC 02-03-2006 05:07 PM

And Tanya Tagaq after he's done with Sigur Ros. He'll never speak a coherent language ever again.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-03-2006 05:37 PM

Hopelandic > you.

ATC 02-03-2006 08:05 PM

Inuit > Hopelandic

deathscreamingsheep 02-04-2006 01:49 PM

Hey, ATC. I seem to remember you say you like some hip-hop. Is there any indie/experimental hip-hop stuff you can recommend?

ATC 02-04-2006 04:11 PM

Hmm sure. My tastes run to more of the trip-hop side but here're some I like.

CYNE
DJ Shadow
Kid Koala
Blackalicious
Herbaliser
Roots Manuva
Tricky
Danger Doom
Mike Ladd
Atmosphere
Soul Position
p.o.s

DeadReligion 02-04-2006 06:53 PM

Atmosphere? Not bad...

ATC 02-04-2006 06:56 PM

Atmosphere's alright. Seven's travels was a good album as was Godlovesugly and Lucy Ford but the new album is horrible as are a lot of the other things he's done.

You'll enjoy most of the other acts listed because they've taken stuff you hear with Atmosphere to a higher level.

RunAmokRampant 02-05-2006 12:51 AM

DJ Shadow is cool.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-06-2006 05:23 PM

I just took a five hour nap. Anyone here into Stop It!!, they are on Robotic Empire.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-06-2006 10:02 PM

DR, I think some of the ideas in my piece kind of escaped you.

TojesDolan 02-07-2006 12:23 PM

I listen to Sigur Ros.

Anyhow, I don't have enough money to go around spending it.

I'm sad. I want money.

deathscreamingsheep 02-08-2006 04:30 PM

And thus the community thread died a tragic death. Well it's not quite dead, more suffering a terminal illness at the moment.

DeadReligion 02-08-2006 04:46 PM

Which piece are you referring to?

Sloth 02-08-2006 05:36 PM

what's going on mx?
I've been lurking for a while and I've noticed the writing quality has gone down hill...and V Day's been a poor influence on everyone. With this the exception of the regs/vets/whatever you wanna call yourselves of course ;)

My excuse for not posting anything is that I've been busy with school and my writing class has gotten into fiction/short story writing so I haven't had any time or energy for the lyrical side of life..

Keep posting and giving these kids something to work up to... tear them apart too so they know where they're going..

heh heh cheers :chug:

TojesDolan 02-08-2006 06:09 PM

Oh indeed sloth. Beautiful bitch school.

That and college applications, aside from real life and lack of internet take away most of my time. I miss my internet. :( :(

Anyhow, I've been writing some stuff, but I still feel it's way too... basic. I don't know.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-08-2006 06:26 PM

Tojes, where have you applied?

DeadReligion 02-08-2006 07:56 PM

Sloth, do you think I've gone downhill? Just wondering...

P.S. I miss your stuff...

Sloth 02-08-2006 11:25 PM

Nah DR, you're the ONLY one I've seen around lately with consistant writing... yeah, some of it's "basic" for lack of a better word, but it's better than most of the stuff I see..

I miss my stuff to..

atabner 02-09-2006 01:27 PM

Man, I wish I produced enough material to have a hill to GO down! At the moment, I think I'm still trying to work out what level I'm at in the first place. Been writing, on and off, for over 2 years, and could probably only find about 6 finished songs I've produced, maybe 2 of which I actually like. Ish. Meh, onwards.....

drumass04 02-09-2006 01:42 PM

Hmmm, quality's certainly gone down. I'm just starting to get back into it again, a few new inspirations and stuff.

Been busy in the theatre and school though, so not loads of time for crit'ing the new lot and actualy sitting down and concentrating on my writing.

Keep on writing!!!

Tim

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-09-2006 01:57 PM

The newbies are all lame and don't want to learn how to improve, which is why I haven't been hanging out lately.

DeadReligion 02-09-2006 02:01 PM

^ Word.

deathscreamingsheep 02-09-2006 03:12 PM

Is it just me or have you all been posting death/funeral songs recently just as so many people are coming in with these frankly nauseating Valentine verses?

drumass04 02-09-2006 03:32 PM

Aye, I'll agree with you on that one APS.
