^^^ dont let them push you around. it makes much more sense for them to turn the volume on their anps and stuff down than for you to spend £400 on new cymbals that you might not have wanted in the first place.

Sponer 10-22-2005 06:58 PM

No, it's not that.
I know that I make the final choice in what I want.

I'm just trying to keep the band in mind as well.
I'm sure I'd be happy with anything better than B8s. :D

Cause if not HHXs, I think I'd get AAs because I like both.

an_original_name 10-22-2005 07:02 PM

^^^ in that case, go down to your local store, and hit every crash you can find, then pick your favourite.

GooseFilms.net 10-22-2005 07:44 PM

what do you guys think about a 17" AAX Stage Crash?

aznriceball 10-22-2005 09:23 PM

aaxplosions 17"-19" are pretty freakin loud

DruMMeR_BoY14 10-22-2005 10:26 PM

wow you get told to play louder?

I always get told to be quieter.

poppinfresh 10-24-2005 07:18 PM
rockin, I'm on the paiste site but I can't find any soundclips (I know soundclips are generally rubbish but I don't have the best access to a music store at the moment) does anyone know where I can find some clips?
LAST EDIT(I swear): instead of the giant beats multi-function, would the paiste dark energy crash mark I work for what I want?
dont worry about the multi function, go try them out, all cymbals have different charactierstics.

To me the ride is a lot more than any sound clip can offer. They have an extremely complex sound. If i rememebr correctly, they have this warm huge sounding ping, and this beautiful wash underneath that just maxes out at a certain level. The ping is always heard, its pretty crazy, you never lose the ping. The hats are really nice and warm, i didnt hear too much of those but they had a nice warm swish and it was pretty articulate with a powerful tick. The crashes, i dont remember very well. It wil be worth the trip, these are pretty crazy cymbals.

GooseFilms.net 10-24-2005 08:58 PM

Well, I just bought a 17" AAX Stage Crash (which retails for $155) used for $60, and that's including shipping. That's like, 60% off. Call it a bitchin' deal, if you will.

poppinfresh 10-24-2005 09:02 PM

oh ****, thats a good price, where did you get it from?

GooseFilms.net 10-24-2005 09:16 PM

call it my secret online instrument ebay

Seafroggys 10-25-2005 12:03 AM

hahaha its page 69.....

god damn i feel like a high schooler when i say that...

man I can truly tell the difference between B8s and AAs. Huge difference in volume. B8s just disappear when I play with my metal band, but those AAs and the New Beats just kill.

bobby__johnny 10-25-2005 11:35 AM

doesnt take much to tell apart AA's from B8's ;)

Seafroggys 10-25-2005 05:55 PM

well yeah, but when i first rehersed on my band's set i thought the cymbals sounded alright, but as time has gone on I've noticed the difference far more, now I think B8s are terrible! I can't even imagine what ZBTs and stuff sound like!

thenewguy515 10-25-2005 07:18 PM

i need hats that sound good and splashy open and a ride that has a nice short ping...please don't say RUDE's they are way too expensive

GooseFilms.net 10-25-2005 07:34 PM
I can't even imagine what ZBTs and stuff sound like!
Worse than B8's. One day when i find a china that i really like, I'll finally ditch my last ZBT

AAX Studio Hats, and a 20" AA Medium Ride

Trev 10-26-2005 03:10 PM

Right, I need a cymbal for Christmas, around £150 is probably the budget, but I could probably go over if it had that special something..

I play in a symphonic metal band, but I don't really want a cymbal thats limited to metal. I am not a brand whore, so all suggestions welcome. I was thinking maybe a Paiste Signature/Rude/2002 (All seem feasable options really), or an A custom. I don't know a lot about Sabian, but I hear Vaults are good.

bobby__johnny 10-26-2005 09:11 PM

HHX Stage Crash....by far

3_times_round 10-27-2005 01:24 PM

I would 100% recommened A Customs. Maybe around an 18" regular or 17" Medium. Would fit with metal, but also has great versatility.

White 10-27-2005 03:00 PM

My first crash on the new set- Im wondering what a good crash would be on my new set (when it gets here0 Im thinking vault crash or custom K Dark crash, somthing along that line, what would you recommend? thanks, Jeff

bobby__johnny 10-27-2005 03:26 PM

something along that line? the Vault is super bright, and the K Dark is...well....dark....so something in the middle?

AA Medium-Thin Crash

3_times_round 10-27-2005 03:26 PM

What style of music do you play/prefer? K Custom Dark's are great, but they can't reach a high volume. Vaults are heavy-ish cymbals and are great for most things really. I personally don't like them, and I personally would go for the KC Dark, but go in and listen yourself, see which one you prefer.
Also check out A Custom crashes, AAX Crashes (any) and Paiste Sigs.

Ya Ive been doing some reasearch on the A customs and the K customs, the vault I mgiht buy, but I doubt I will, but ya, im going in town on saturday to check some out, what do you think I should look for in the Hi-Hat Section????
Thanks, Jeff

DruMMeR_BoY14 10-27-2005 07:57 PM

Well if you want something dark, K hats. K Mastersounds have more articulation. A New beats are good hats for all round purposes, get them in trad not brilliant though. A Quickbeats are heavier than newbeats, and therefore have a bigger sound and a tighter "chick" sound when closed.

You try some A customs if you are looking for a bright tone, I quite like them, almost bought a pair. A custom mastersounds are bright and articulate, probably not what your looking for. You coudl try the Avedis version of them, never tried some in person, but I'm guessing they woul dhave a more natural tone than the A customs.

dedworx 10-27-2005 08:38 PM

hi, trying to find two new crashes probably from sabian or zildjian as they're easiest to get around my area. i play in a rock band that plays groovier stuff too and playing for other people of non rock type stuff the bigger too loud cymbals wouldnt work. versatility is what i'm after really, and not too overbearing but strong enough. i was thinking along the lines of AAX studio crashes 17' and 18' loud but not too much? or maybe A customs ,or HHX studio/stage? i can't really decide so any suggestions on what might work or opinions on what i've suggested would be much appreciated.

cheers
matt

16" or 17" AA Medium Crash
16" or 17" AA Medium Thin Crash
16" or 17" AAX Stage Crash
16" or 17" A Medium Crash
You can go bigger if you wish

aznriceball 10-27-2005 08:46 PM

here are my recommendations for your situation. get some more opinions before u leave

small crashes:

a custom fast crash- 14", 16" or 17", super bright and less overtones and more attack, groovy
aax stage crash: 16", 17" or 18" bright, good volume

main crashes:
avedis medium thin - 16" or 18" - versatile
aax dark crash: 18" or 19" can be funky and and volumous

big crashes:
a custom crash 18" or 20" versatile and bright/funkilicious
hhxplosion 19" or 20" groove right into the song but be heard
aaxplosion 17", 18" or 19" loud, but not obnoxious like z customs.

aznriceball 10-27-2005 08:47 PM

and i wasnt sure if u wanted 1/2/3 crashes and a small/medium, medium/big, big/small etc

Trev 10-28-2005 09:14 AM

Thanks for the suggestions bobby__johnny and 3_times_round. I tried out both the HHX Stage Crash and the A customs, but I ended up buying a bargain one month old 18" Vault Crash, just sounded beautiful.
