Lots of them here too. They spoil the term "emo" and I end up having to educate lots of people about what emo really is. Curse them fake emo kids...

So hard to educate someone about emo. Here they keep saying things like "yeah but Taking Back sunday and The Used is new emo, they're emotional" I want to rip their balls out and fry 'em before their eyes.
I've heard the "new" emo excuse
I've heard the "new" emo excuse
who hasn't?

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 05-23-2005 04:49 PM

Hahaha good point. Then there is "then there are 2 types of emo. Hot Cross is like hardcore emo and Dashboard is another type of emo"

StandingStill 05-23-2005 06:43 PM

I gave up a long time ago. Just shut your eyes and feel superior to everyone else. Its how I deal with all of lifes little problems.

BuddyBigsby 05-23-2005 07:41 PM

I stopped caring.

Wow 05-23-2005 07:44 PM

Being a genre nazi is getting boring. If someone says TBS when they talk about emo I just say "wrong" and walk away.

kodan armada 05-23-2005 08:00 PM

its hard not to tell them off, you feel like youve lost. but they dont heed your word anyway.

cbmartinez 05-23-2005 08:24 PM

I almost got it. Say it one more time though.

RetiredAt21 05-23-2005 09:22 PM

Yes please, just one more time.

flamey088 05-24-2005 02:21 AM

ha ha! would u class hot water music as emo? also what is saosin, because i've heard so many terms and genres throw around about them. For example someone said they're emocore, another said post-hardcore and another just said plain pop-punk

StandingStill 05-24-2005 03:53 AM

HWM are definately not emo, or indeed emocore. Neither are they post-hardcore and personally I couldnt bear to call them pop-punk. Their early stuff might be considered hardcore, but all the stuff after 'A flight and a crash' is too poppy. I'd be willing to say their last album is post-hardcore though.

Bartender 05-24-2005 04:07 AM
Er...I don't see how. Then again, I haven't listened to them in a long time.

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/c/casiotone-for-the-painfully-alone/twinkle-echo.shtml

The review at least doesn't treat them like a joke band.
Pitchfork is crap, though.

StandingStill 05-24-2005 07:16 AM

Pain is good, as long as it educates. Taking into a account that they are essentially a leatherface-influenced rock band that ended up playing in the American post-hardcore scene, i feel that stylisically the new one has more elements of that sound in it. Note the word 'willing' to be taken as 'I wouldnt bother to argue with,' its a very important word in that sentence.

kodan armada 05-24-2005 05:54 PM
I almost got it. Say it one more time though.
haha sorry, Im not that sure what i was talking about either now that i read it

but to standing still, hot water music are definately in that emo/post hardcore realm

StandingStill 05-24-2005 06:28 PM

I have all their albums cept the live one and I dont agree. I understand why people say that, I just dont think that label sits on them very well at all. Its got a lot to do with the No Idea records connection I think.

Sep 05-25-2005 01:37 AM

So I checked out Comadre on hxcmp3.com yesterday and I was blown away.

RetiredAt21 05-25-2005 11:28 AM

Were blown away in a good way or a bad way?

cbmartinez 05-25-2005 12:10 PM

There stuff on myspace was okay but it didn't really seem like emo to me.

used334 05-25-2005 07:52 PM

emo emocore post hardcore scremo...
there all terms thrown around. bands never want to be restricted to one genre as for kids who go "im so emo... cus i listen to the starting line, fall out boy, taking back sunday ect." they are just confused kids who havnt been exposed to real emo music.
Well?

EvIL_ToASTER_OVEN 05-25-2005 07:54 PM

Yes? I can't understand what you're saying really. Try to clear it up a bit for me. Are you asking a question to us?
