In fact, I think I'll just take this over. If anyone would so kindly go to www.myspace.com/premonition1 and listen to the song Profane, review it, and give me a song, I will be glad to repay the favor. Or ignore me because I have no authority whatsoever. I am just trying to save this thread. |

DIBS
IDSB BSID SBDI maudlin Of The Well - The Curve That To An Angle Turn'd Some clean, non-trebly guitar full of reverb and echoes is at the start of it. Seems like a typical mOTW sound in quite a few of their songs that I've heard. The bass and some keyboard join in this ghostly moodsetting intro. Some lead guitar snakes around. After about 1:20 it threatens.. and delivers. It goes into a slow sludgy passage, with deep Opeth-like growls. Rarely interrupted by quick guitar squeals, harmonics and notes that have an audible frequency. This goes on for 2 minutes, with little change. A quick break with a trumpet or whatever that is, and soft guitar strums. Plays a bit of Green Day - When I Come Around for 0.5 seconds, then goes back to heavy for 10 seconds. Calm again, a woman is singing, sounds emotional.. I wouldn't have expected it here. It's very calm in fact, the drums patter on in the background, barely noticeable. This carries on for more minutes than the heavy bit did. The ending is a bit faster, and a bit unfocused and rushed it seems to me, some of the drum bits just sound stupid. I guess everything until now has fitted in its own strange way. After all that, I listened the song and hardly had an opinion at all. Very cold to my heart. I know in time it will grow on me, all their other songs did. For my first listens, it's so hard to say what I feel because their songs are so weird. It took the poor ending to make me realize that everything before that sounded relatively good. I felt too much like an observer.. Bah ask me in 3 months time. 7.5/10 for now __________________ Decoder Ring - Collapse Coming On - instrumental, post-pop. Decoder Ring - Collapse Coming On
I have not a single clue about this, so here we go: The song starts with some strange computer type noises which fade in. Then something like a triangle is hit, and a rhythm is maintained on that. Various other atonal noises fade in, and out, before a pretty little piano melody, synth accompaniment and clean guitar take centre stage. This all builds up for a while before being joined by a steady bass drum beat, and various other instruments - which sound like glokenspiels or something akin to that, which add to the pretty paino melody. At 2:20 a full drum beat develops and drives the song forward. This is extremely well written. The melody started off so simple, but has gotten so complex now and still manages to sound wonderful. The drums drop out for a while whilst something like the begginning melody is repeated, but variances are added by new instruments. This really is a very pretty song. The drums kick back into something approaching the earlier section, but this time with added slightly distorted guitar on top. The layering is this song is brilliant, there is so much happening but it all works together to make a great song. The song ends with your usual guitar chord ringing out + feedback. So yeah, this song was cool. Extremely well writte in that there was so much happening at one time yet it all worked together to give the sense of simplness. Also very pretty. I liked the fact that it was instrumental as well, it was just one of those songs that I think would've been spoiled by having specific meaning tied to it. 8/10 Recommendations hxxp://s52.yousendit.com/d.php?id=R9FSADJOJZ4GBDHJFJANQ7CO Enthroned - Seven Plauges, Seven Wraths (Xes Revelation) - Black Metal hxxp://s56.yousendit.com/d.php?id=1RTFE9QC4IU8C1GU0T92D6IF44 The Offspring - Blackball - Punk hxxp://s55.yousendit.com/d.php?id=9Y2D8I1UFYG43ELSFSYACXWKS Spiritual Beggars - Salt In Your Wound - Rock hxxp://s54.yousendit.com/d.php?id=245IBZGJ1OCGS1X4U0RS4WPK0C The Average White Band - Pick Up The Pieces - Soul/Funk hxxp://s52.yousendit.com/d.php?id=3L2RKEOUAPK44F5IJIACWRRC Carnial In Coal - Fucking Hostile (Pantera Cover) - Lounge/Jazz EDIT: Sorted |

Spiritual Beggars - Salt In Your Wound
I have never heard these guys before so I went into this not knowing what to expect. The song goes straight into it and it has a very interesting riff with the bass following the guitar. The drums are great on this track in my opinion. It goes into the verse playing what it was playing before but with vocals. Due to weird mixing it is quite hard to hear the singer but the vocals are great. It then goes into a new, basic riff for the chorus and the singers voice becomes more clear. The song then breaksdown and then goes back into the chorus riff. The breakdown in this song is fantastic but I have always had a thing for breakdowns :p. After continuing the cycle a bit more there is one crazy solo, I <3 this solo. It then breaksdown again and then that is the song. The vocals on this track are great and the guitar has some fantastic riffs all the way through. I also thought the drums were great and the song had a fantastic layout. My only complaint really is the fact that the bass just seems to follow the guitar all the way through but that might just be my crappy speakers. A great band that I will certainley look out for :) 8.5/10 Recommendations: At The Drive-In - One Armed Scissor (Post Rock/Emo) hxxp://s59.yousendit.com/d.php?id=2X6OZ4HWFMSKK1BRZMG4FAJVO0 Cryptopsy - Slit Your Guts (Death Metal) hxxp://s46.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1YDZOGVQCGDOU04F9C20VPTAFG King Crimson - Elephant Talk (Progressive Rock) hxxp://s56.yousendit.com/d.php?id=2Y2HSZTUJBI8K30YB6A0F0XA88 |

King Crimson - Elephant Talk
I'm slightly familiar with King Crimson, so I have a vauge idea of what to expect. The song starts off with a trill on what sound like a some kind of synth, but is most likely Robert Fripp's guitar. Phase and delay effects come in to make this a crazy trill. A jazzy tune then starts up on the guitar, which is accompanied by bass. The vocals enter with an aggressive "shh" and are immediatly followed by the drums which give a steady beat and mold the song together. This repeats a few times before the vocals stop hiding backstage and make a proper entrance. The vocals seem to be very free verse, and stray away from the usual rhyme schemes and rhythms that most lyrics anchor themselves to. The subject matter also appears to be very wierd. The jazzy bass and guitar continue underneath this with overdubs from another guitar, which is actually recognisable as a guitar this time. The whole song so far gives of a very physcadelic jazz feel. A change occurs at about 1:30 and a new part is introduced. It puts me in mind of some of Buckethead's playing, though several million Bpm slower. It appears to be this song's explanation for a chorus. This repeats a few time before going back to the, already well established, earlier jazzy section with the crazy vocals. The only real difference this time round is strange overdubs which replace the vocals. Another jazzy section enters, lead my clean guitar. Fripp's solo over the top sounds very much like a violinist is in the process of being strangled. Intersting? Most certainly. Pleasing to the ear? Not entirely. A brief reconnaissance mission back to the first section before we head off to an entirely new section. It appears to be a breakdown section accompanied by a more conventional solo by Mr. Fripp. After this brief interlude we repeat one of the earlier sections. And encounter a very brief ending. This song didn't really go anywhere, it was just extremely repetitive and no where near as progressive as I was expecting. The writing for this song just doesn't approach the level of that on In The Court Of The Crimson King. It was an interesting piece, but not very easy to listen to. And Not one I'll be listening again to in a hurry again. 5/10 Recommendations: hxxp://s56.yousendit.com/d.php?id=1RTFE9QC4IU8C1GU0T92D6IF44 The Offspring - Blackball - Punk hxxp://s54.yousendit.com/d.php?id=245IBZGJ1OCGS1X4U0RS4WPK0C The Average White Band - Pick Up The Pieces - Soul/Funk hxxp://s52.yousendit.com/d.php?id=3L2RKEOUAPK44F5IJIACWRRC Carnial In Coal - ****ing Hostile (Pantera Cover) - Lounge/Jazz Enthroned - Seven Plauges, Seven Wraths (Xes Revelation) - Black Metal The Black Mages - Those Who Fight Further - Metal adpation of a FFVII song |

I've never really liked any black metal that I've heard so far, just giving it another try.
Enthroned - Seven Plauges, Seven Wraths (Xes Revelation) A surprising intro. A timpani, clarinet and some maybe ethnic instruments play some calm stuff. This doesn't last long. Distorted guitar and fast double kick drums, AND I CAN HEAR BOTH CLEARLY!!!! :O Doesn't sound too bad actually, and it sounds more like death metal to me. A simple riff is playing, then the singer comes in. Sounds a bit raspy like the Atheist singer, but midgetized, and I can't understand what he's s.... singing. There's a deeper growl every now and then alongside midgetguts. I guess its the chorus here. It's quite melodic, both musically and the vocals, but the midget is still grinding away as well. The drums slow down for a bit, some simple guitar chords chug along, then speed up as a guitar solo starts... then they really fast mid-solo, but it seems the drummer can't get it quite right. Yeeh, quiet middle section, some middle eastern scale is used, sounds like Alchemist. The song title is half said/half growled. Then the same riffs are taken to the heavy level. Some cool riffs follow, still fairly melodic. More progressions, could be the first verse/chorus repeating. The chorus music follows on and theres a not-too-difficult sounding guitar solo. It goes almost as melodic as Gothenburgh Death Metal at the end. Then fades out. Yeah, not bad at all. It was easy to listen to with all the melodies, so it would be a good stepping stone to more extreme music. It stays interesting over the 7 minutes with all the changes. It was also good to be able to hear the instruments clearly. I'll keep this one. 8/10 ________________________ Karnivool - C.O.T.E. - prog/technical nu-metal |

dibs, I have decided it's a terrible shame that I haven't donme forced listenings for months, because I can discover loads of music via these threads :)

Starts of with some weird sounds.
At 0:10 drumming and guitars come in, I like it. Not typical nu-metal :p Everything is well audible. at 0:50 vocals come in, way too whiney for my tastes, it ruins the song a bit. The guitaring underneath is cool though, reminds me a bit of Tool at times. The music has a very electronic feel to it, a lot of synth effects. The mainriff is a powerfull one, the bass going on under that is very nice, but once more, the vocals aren’t my thing. Especially on the softer parts of the song the vocals get annoying. At 3:30 there is some acoustic strumming and some strings going on, after this we get a solo of sort, which is cool, the vocals now remind me of Cedric from the Mars Volta, I like it better. At: 4:30 the song is synth driven and bass driven, after that going back for one time the main-riff. The song ends with the weird sounds it started with. Overall: Vocals aren’t my cup of thee, I might get used to it, they aren’t bad, just not my thing. The rest is awesome, only the synths are a bit too much at times. 4/5 My picks: Mr Bungle - Golem II (uhh, weird patton fusion stuff?) xttp://s64.yousendit.com/d.php?id=10HUGZGKVOIOKHLGE8YZC4O0G Winds – What Is Beauty? Mr. Bungle - Golem II
Right so is there a Golem I? To your shock and horror I am yet to here Mr. Bungle ( I hear you cry) so I have no idea what to expect. You took your time uploading this one :p. This song starts with some interesting noises with some weird jack-in-a-box music, kinda creepy. The attitude changes and it is a kind of happy change but still quite creepy.Holy crap! So many thing happening at once. The drums in this are fantastic and I love the whole structure of it. It then breaksdown and has a perculiar voice. It then has some singing but still perculiar voices and then the effects go off the voice. It then breaksdown then but just the tune really slow and then goes back into it. It then comes back with some more perculiar vocals and the back to usual vocals. It then continues this kind of structure for the rest of the song until the end when it turns into some classical creepy piano (or so it sounds like). This is real one of those songs that you need to hear to believe. There is so much going on at once that there is no chance of me explaining it all. This was a very hard one to review and I did a poor job of it :upset:. You're either gonna hate or love this song. I loved it :) 9/10 Judas Priest - Touch Of Evil (Old School Metal) hxxp://s53.yousendit.com/d.php?id=GJFS6H8JJAOSYN0FD15UUC08 Black Label Society - Blood In The Wall (Live) (Acoustic Rock) hxxp://s53.yousendit.com/d.php?id=74P9I0F3RHOO2XQLJIF7WFWG8 Symphony X - Evolution (The Grand Design) (Symphonic Metal) hxxp://s58.yousendit.com/d.php?id=MGE0VHBWFUOW1ZCA8CCD1IQS0 |

Judas Priest - Touch of Evil
I have consistently not liked Judas Priest. Here goes another try. As a side-note, Touch of Evil the movie has the best opening shot ever. Nearly 5 minutes long and it ranges from a closeup to full building shots. Begins with some wind and bells which strings join. Atmosphere! Then a guitar. This could be good. The drums join and they're the same old lame drums every song ever could have. A nasty keyboard joins, really terrible sound to it. The singer comes in, he sounds better than I remember. This is getting boring. The singer is really good. Then we get another section. The synths sound good here. Very epic sound to everything. I like this the way I like power metal. I don't actually enjoy it but it gives you the feeling of being a knight in shining armor battling a dragon. Anyway... back to the first riff. I wish the guitarist would play something more exciting. everythign but the singer has gotten old by now. The little solo thing is good. the winds and bells in the background have a nice effect. Then the solo gets into itself and I want shredding but there is none to be found. It is a very awesome solo though. Like, really, really good. It does interesting things musically. Then there is shredding. I wish there was a little more of that, like the solos Winds does, a nice mix of musicality and shredding. Anyway, I like the song, it is good but at the same time, not really my thing. I can see how the live show must be amazing though. The drummer just did a little bit of double bass but for the most part, he is really boring. 8/10 All my songs are over 7 minutes because I wanted a post-metal/rock theme to mine. Sorry about the size. If you have a bad internet connection, just post in here that you need something shorter and I will comply, but don't just be lazy and ask for a shorter song because you can't commint all 8 minutes to listening. Pelican - Australasia
Starts of very Isis like, dense low guitaring. This riffs carries on till: 1:20, there is some change now, and it sounds better. The song starts to flow better now, with some more alive sounding drums. At 1:55 there is some intesting guitar played over the mainriff. At 2:20 the music slows down a bit, very drone like At 3:50 there is some relaxing strumming on acoustic guitar, I like the sliding sounds on the strings. After this there isn’t much going on, the typical dense post rock sound that I know from Isis. At 6:40 the soundscape sounds very empty, some strumming without distortion or anything. This is very nice, you can feel the emotion going on. Towards the 9 minutes things get denser again, very melodic though. The playing at the 10 minute mark is very cool. But you can feel it building towards and end.. Well, I’m not really impressed by my first Pelican experience, but it was good. Sometimes the dense riffs started to bore me, and the more melodic stuff in between was very welcome, I would be more interested if they had vocals though :( 7/10 My picks: Solefald – Death Of Father (post black metal) hxxp://s59.yousendit.com/d.php?id=2XFNMOTZDJ8K81CNX6MU0G1Q84 Pineapple Thief – resident Alert (prog rock) just a YSI for one, the other YSI has been running for 2 hours already, and still not done, although it's only a 4 minute song  so If you are interested in the Pineapple thief one, you will have to look for it yourself or contact me via MSn or AIM, it's in my profile |
