Why'd they do that?

lunch998 03-15-2005 07:35 PM
You know what I thought was interesting.

The Who burned all their master Tommy tapes, so the CD versions are never going to sound the same as the vinyl.

I want a vinyl copy now.
/Has Tommy on vinyl, cassette, and Cd.

I want to listen to Sparks on vinyl with a candle burning.

You'll get to see your future!

pigonthewing82 03-15-2005 08:42 PM

Oh god today sombody at school tried to convince me Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys was one of the best pshycidellic (sp?) cds of all time. Just no anybody who says "be true to your women, like you would to your school" is exempt from any list rock and roll wise.

pet sounds is one of the best albums of all time. without pet sounds there would be no sgt. peppers (paul himself stated that they made sgt. peppers to try and top pet sounds). the album is a great great album, with tons of solid songs like god only knows, wouldn't it be nice, sloop john b, caroline no, etc. shame on you for knocking pet sounds.

JonG 03-15-2005 08:51 PM

Beach Boys paved the way for the Beatles as ^ said, they tried to exactly sound like them, they worshipped the Beach Boys..

PS: Brian Wilson=great.

pigonthewing82 03-15-2005 08:58 PM

Wow I take my statment back then. I have been proved wrong. Well I still hate the Beach Boys, but at least now I respect them.

PinkFreud 03-15-2005 08:59 PM

everythings already been said but i had to post.

stupid!

just kidding.

ATM 03-15-2005 08:59 PM

Yea Pet Sounds was an influential album, but it's not the greatest psychadelic album of all time imo.

DeusExMachina 03-15-2005 09:06 PM

Pet Sounds is influential, sure, but I think it's pretty dated. Some albums age well (like Sgt. Pepper or DSOTM) but I don't think Pet Sounds did so much. But, I haven't listened to it in a little while, maybe I'll like it more next time.

Yea I apoligize for my statment before. I had no idea, I mean I know I should know my stuff, I usually do but with the Full House guest apperences, and the surfer music I woudn't have guessed.

Badmoon 03-15-2005 09:12 PM

Tommorow we party!

The Beach Boys rule.

Eat a Peach is fantastic.

Bonzo, nice avatar.

I'm buying shrooms and CD's tommorow.

Yea, I am now up to date.

Yea I mean oh god yea I just didn't see them as being influencial in that way. Yea you guys are gonna have to excuse me for not being 100% on pshycidellic rock facts, or even on how to spell it, Ii've only been listening to bands that fall under that catagory (Syd Barrett, the Beatles, Brian Jonestown Massacre, ect) for about a month or so. But meh we all have to be noobs to it somtime.

EDIT: Actually somthing I just realized I got my first classic rock cd (Led Zeppelin greatist hits) in March of last year. I have been listening to classic rock for a full year now :smoke: :chug: :smoke:

Badmoon 03-15-2005 09:24 PM

Don't worry, it's still relatively new to me too.

Seafroggys 03-15-2005 09:30 PM

And Brian Wilson said Pet Sounds was based off of Rubber Soul

pigonthewing82 03-15-2005 09:32 PM
*Psychedelic :)
Thanks, you know the sad thing is I'm actually writting that down because I know I'm not going to be able to remember how to spell that.

Hah, yeah, I've only been getting into classic rock more recently too. I love it, of course. Led Zep, naturally great. What else have I been listening to? Derek and the Dominos (Clapton's band), I've really enjoyed. I always liked the Beatles. Hendrix, er, Cream (I do suppose they count, are they considered psychedelic rock?)

In some ways I like being a newb to classic rock, there's so much more to listen to, and it'll be new to me.

absolutely cream is considered classic rock. ive only been listening to it for a little over a year. you can always come here for suggestions man.

pigonthewing82 03-15-2005 09:55 PM

The only thing I don't like about being a noob to classic rock is the first time I heard Pin Ball Wizerd or Revolution the first thought that went in my head wasn't "oh what a great song" it was "oh I heard this in a commercial". I wish I grew up in the 60's so that those great bands wouldn't have had time to sell their songs before I heard them......but on the other hand who doesn't wish they grew up in the 60's.

Sturmur 03-15-2005 09:59 PM

Yeah, I wish I was born in England in 1945.

Badmoon 03-15-2005 10:00 PM

Possibly the greatest/oddest album cover ever.

You know while we are on the subject of Psychedelic (thanks Badmoon) Rock, I'm just wondering who in here has heard of The Brian Jonestown Massare, I talk about them quite a bit, but I don't think they are very popular. If you haven't heard of them put them number one on your list of people to cheak out.

ive heard of them and seen their stuff in stores but never bought anything. what album would you recommend?

ATM 03-15-2005 10:30 PM

Dr. John does Right Place, Wrong Time right? Off the Dazed and Confused soundtrack?

pigonthewing82 03-15-2005 10:30 PM

Hmmmmmm well Methodrone is great, but they just put out a greatist hits album Tepid Peppermint Wonderland: A Retrospective, thats not bad. The greatest hits would probally be your best bet.

There is some good info on them. Cheak them out, trust me you will all be glad you did.

BludgeonySteve 03-15-2005 11:16 PM

Wow. This thread is almost a year old.

Classic rock truely is awesome. I remember bumping this thread from the 6th page back when it only had 1000 posts. So many memories.

blue3 03-15-2005 11:21 PM

I remember how many people that it was dying a loooooooong time ago. I remeber frailed and voodoo, and when i thought I'd missed out on fathers of time. It's an old thread indeed.

Leper 03-16-2005 12:25 AM

hey RockandRoll, just incase no one else has informed you, your avatar is messed up.

B0nz0 03-16-2005 01:00 AM

wow to think i started this thread a year ago and it's still alive...

*takes moment of silence*

thanks guys for keeping this one going so long.
RIP the originals who helped make it great:
frailed and bedazzled
Voodoo

and to bandmoon, rockandroll, rocknotroll, and DVG, you guys kick @$$

Leper 03-16-2005 01:03 AM

Well done on starting a hell of a thread Bonzo.

B0nz0 03-16-2005 01:07 AM
Well done on starting a hell of a thread Bonzo.
thank you... i'm pretty sure this is the only thread i ever started on r&m. i had been a member for a while, and would occasionally venture out of the drums and percussion section into here. but everytime i would see nothing but metallica and death metal threads. so i began this, expecting it to be knocked off the front page in half an hour. thank you guys so much for keeping alive a place for us to discuss the good old rock, a thread that is an island in a sea of death metal threads.

lets keep it going another year!
