I've noticed you guys mentioning the GCSE. What is that exactly? I'm just a community college student so I don't really know.
Its a type of course for 14 to 16 years olds you take while still in compulsery education. It stands for General Certificate in Stardardised something or other :p

What Father Jack said plus it's retarded. Hardest thing learnt was 3 chord theory. now THAT'S saying something.

Music Education for High Schools?

Unheard of here in California thanks to Govenor Schwarzeneger.

I can't believe I voted for that guy.

Britton 09-12-2005 02:50 PM

I really like S&m I thought it was really creative.
does anyone know how much it was inspired by apacalyptica?

I'm getting my amp today what Metllica song should I play first on it?

lightningmetal666 09-12-2005 02:52 PM

I would try out the clean with the intro to fade to black then test the uber distortion with blackened.

Try down tuned riffs like TTTSNB and Devils Dance.

Britton 09-12-2005 02:53 PM

okay thanks!

Iwas also thinking maybe saniterium

Joe 09-12-2005 03:55 PM
Yeah but i thought that the orchestra took away the raw heavyness that MOP has. Still a great song tho. Yes Sad but True was not too good really.
Yes, MOP and One were the best. But if they could do one they easily could have done Fade to Black... :upset:
I'm getting my amp today what Metllica song should I play first on it?
Awesome, what kind of amp? I play fade to black, but I'm obsessed with that song.

Oh no, I've learned from my lesson. I switched political parties. I'm now a democrat. The stupid things we do as kids........ :upset:

I'm so happy right now. I'm listening to Master of Puppets for the first time in a while. I've been listening to Kill 'em all like crazy and I've just had my fill of that album for a while (though I'll definitely be learning Anesthesia on bass as my first song to learn on bass on the 27th. I play arpeggios on guitar all the time so it won't be anything new.)

vashts80 09-12-2005 07:41 PM
Cliff was God. isn't the bass supposed to sorta follow guitar? that's how we
do it in my bands (to a extent)
It can, but in jazz there's usually no guitars to follow. Everybody claims that Cliff was a god, when he wasn't. Anybody can follow the guitar. Hell, my current bass idol Steve DiGiorgio follows the guitar a lot in his metal work. However, there's usually tons of fills by him during songs. Cliff rarely did fills, except on maybe Ktulu and the end of the Creeping Death chorus. Those are the only two songs I can think of that he added fills to.

clairvoyant 09-12-2005 07:42 PM

If any metal bass player should be a god it should be Steve Harris in my opinion.

Huber 09-12-2005 07:48 PM
If any metal bass player should be a god it should be Steve Harris in my opinion.
This is probably true. Cliff didn't have enough time to do what Steve Harris has.

Well it's a good thing you switched. Did Bush and the Govenator piss you off enough??

I've been listening to ...AJFA like crazy recently. IMO it's their best, techincally, album. I must say it is their most boring, the songs do drag and drag, but they are very good.
This is probably true. Cliff didn't have enough time to do what Steve Harris has.
Agreed. Steve has been in the public eye for nearly 3 decades and Cliff was only kind of in it for 3 years

Huber 09-12-2005 08:12 PM

I love it in California. People pay attention to politics to much. Once you stop, you stop worrying and live better.

Chu 09-12-2005 09:42 PM
Cliff was awesome. Cliff had the talent, but Jason had the stage presence and appearance. I know alot of people dont like Rob, but personally i think he adds a good element to the band.
Cliff had amazing stage presence too though.
I think Jason could mosh while playing pretty well, he had a sick windmill, especially at that Russian concert they played in '91 (I think? Someone know a name for that?)
...But so could Cliff, imo. :p

Stop listening to ****. :p

I don't think Cliff was ever really in the public eye, maybe for the last part of his life after releasing Master of Puppets, but I really don't know how popular Metallica were originally.

I've been doing some research on this band. I just wanted to see if they did anything after Cliff, well it seems so.
I haven't heard anything by them, has anyone here heard them?

*To anyone that has heard them: How much influence from Cliff does their music have, if any at all?

Jev 09-13-2005 03:36 AM

Are you implying that Iron Maiden is shit?

Jasarn 09-13-2005 03:50 AM

The new bass player looks like a monkey.

hammet_ownz 09-13-2005 04:43 AM

^^^^ you sir are a toolbag.

if we were here to discuss what musicians look like maybe we could mention that dimbag looks like yosamite sam with tatoos

but we are not. he might look like a monkey but if you can find a mionkey that can shred like that, let metallica know and they may just hire him next

Chu 09-13-2005 05:46 AM
Are you implying that Iron Maiden is shit?
Did he say he was listening to Iron Maiden?

'Cause like.. I thought he said he was listening to ..AJFA :p

Oh I see what you mean, nah Steve Harris/Iron Maiden are ****en pro.

 It's like you want Rob to quit/be fired. :p

BassMasterMike88 09-13-2005 07:41 AM
The new bass player looks like a monkey.
More like a gorrila, but I looking foward to hearing ROB's basslines on the new upcoming release, because i think Bob Rock wrote most of the bass for St. Anger, which was lacking on the low end just a wee bit.

Britton 09-13-2005 08:57 AM

Yea I ca't wait for robs lines. I hope they get in the studio quick enough to have
a summer tour.

I can't beleive that 1000 was 100 ago. what have we been talking about>?

the amp is a legend they went out of bussiness in 82. it's tube with a bintage celestion

I can't take pictures cause dad has the camre in haiti and my sound stuff has been takne away

Ello Metalli-gang :)

I came across the rumour that James Hetfield is a prick in real life. dicuss :O

Quickdrop 09-13-2005 12:29 PM

If i'd have to take a stab at whos a prick in real life, i'd probebly say lars.

Jev 09-13-2005 12:38 PM

Lars is a prick full stop.

Well as a guitarist, AJFA was their best. Cliff wasn't in the public eye much because Metallica didn't really hit it big until the Black Album

And Iron Maiden kicks ***

Give us solos!

Chu 09-13-2005 01:32 PM

Ok guys, roughly one week until I get some recording up! :D
I've been playing around with For Whom The Bell Tolls a bit (For both drums and rhythm guitar), and have (With the help of my own drummer), made some fills which (In my opinion), work quite well with the song.
And a bit of an extended guitar intro (But still has the seksy bass, can't change that, and to whomever records the bass/mixes the final product, let's get some thick/deep bass aye? :D)
Well just keeping you guys informed, and wondering if anyone's going to get some recordings soon :thumb:

Gocaps, Brittallica, Sliptallica, Vashts etc. etc. Get us some recordings

Edit: I guess no one here has checked out Trauma? :upset:

Will do. I need to hear the rhythm. I've been working on a solo. I'll send what I think should be the rhythm guitar behind it and we can work on it.

OK

What tuning?
What timing, album?

Chu 09-13-2005 01:44 PM

Yeah, I am a fan of standard tuning, and keeping it as tight to the album as possible (As far as timing goes).
I really liked the tone you had for your Lead work on your Fade To Black, you know? That would be a sweet tone to use here again I think :D

...But I would be really interested in hearing a say 1.5x Speed version

By the way, cheers for helping with this :thumb:

Well I could try, I have the same setting and I could probably get a clearer tone

Standard Tuning sounds good
I can't record anything :-*
I'm talkin about your Lars comment. he didn't want solos

Chu 09-13-2005 02:18 PM

I cut the nail of my right ring finger with a knife (I shouldn't cook :p), so playing guitar is hard, but possible.
If you want me to get a rhythm section down, I can try it...
I wouldn't try anything out of the normal though, and it would be very bad quality....

Jev 09-13-2005 02:58 PM

Well you're my bassist :D

And probably Lead Guitarist :p

lightningmetal666 09-13-2005 04:49 PM

I tried playing fade to black tuned down 1 step and it ROCKS!!! It really does sound a lot different but still sound very good especially the intro solo. It's sad I can't record or upload stuff anymore......:upset:

In my class we voted on doing some stuff for Metallica but we're undecided on what to do and I was thinking 'hell, I can't decide what song I want to do.' I've decided to do something in the vein of the ...And Justice For All medley. I would try to find a way to modulate parts of at least one song from all of the albums up to the Black Album.

I was thinking of starting off clean and slow with fade to black and just before you get into the main clean rhythm, play the main riff to hit the lights. This is all I've got so far. For the bill I'd only have enough time to get like maybe 6-7 minutes to play this so I'm not gonna go crazy with this modulation idea,

Maybe some more suggestions would be helpful. Maybe one of you guys can find a part of another song (doesn't have to be in order but remember one song from each of the albums) that would technically fit after the main riff of hit the lights (it's in A minor)?

drummer_mp3 09-13-2005 05:05 PM

Oh! did I mention, Hellll Yeahhh!

Metallica!

Britton 09-13-2005 05:07 PM

start woth One and go into ftb when it does the first chords go into MOP from that
go to HOS then blackened and end with Sandman

the amp got trashed on the way here so the guy is paying fo it to be overhauled!
it's gonna rock

Chu 09-13-2005 05:17 PM
