The new album is probably the album of the year. The solos on this one aren't as wanky.

That's good. Loomis has unbelievable technical skill, but his vibrato stinks and the solos usually don't have any sort of processing effect on it, like reverb or delay, which would take the edge off the high-gain tone. I'm sure that's what he's going for, but I don't exactly enjoy it. The kinds of guitar solos that I'd like to see come back aren't the kinds of solos that are coming back: the silly, dissonant, and shreddy ones that gave solos a bad name in the first place are the ones making a resurgence. I'd love to see some flashy melodic soloing for a change.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-11-2005 10:57 PM

I downloaded 4 of the Nevermore songs, and they all kick some serious metal arse. Not sure If I'd call them power metal though. Either way, I'm really digging what I've got. The guitar work and the drumming are both awesome. Their drummer sure can pull a nice double bass rip.

Moses- Wait for •••-••--•-- to decide that.

You only say that because you haven't heard Red Sparowes.

They fall under the power metal tag due to the vocalist style. But their guitar work is anything but traditional power metal, and they also don't use many, if any, symphonic elements. They take from power metal and death metal equally, I'd say. All the band's members cut their teeth in much more technically demanding bands, like the aforementioned Cannibal Corpse. And they were featured in GW's article on power metal a few months ago.

Moses 08-11-2005 11:02 PM

Jake- Too true.

Kage- Downloads? And have you heard the new Nevermore?

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-11-2005 11:05 PM

Cain- To me, one of the defining features of PM is the symphonic aspect, and also the keys. Gotta have the keys. Meh, if it was up to me, I'd just place them under the category if kewl.

Kage 08-11-2005 11:05 PM

I'll upload it for you, or send it on AIM if you're interested. They're kind of a post rock band with a heavy edge.

EDIT: Oh, and no I haven't. I still haven't ventured into your thread for some reason. :upset:

Moses 08-11-2005 11:07 PM

If you have any questions about PM ask Steerpike.

Also I'd like it uploaded because AIM sucks on my computer when sharing. Could I find it on a P2P?

Kage 08-11-2005 11:12 PM

Maybe, I've never looked, but they're somewhat obscure, so I don't know. I'll upload it, though.

Moses 08-11-2005 11:16 PM

I'm interested.

Did you ever hear Ballade in G minor by Chopin from my first thread? I have a feeling you'd appreciate that song.

Kage 08-11-2005 11:17 PM

Of course; I love that song with a passion. Chopin is now a regular on my playlists.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-11-2005 11:18 PM

Heh, us three are like going back and forth from posting here and you know where else.

Page ownage++ :cool:

I hate P2P. It's damn impossible to find anything remotely obscure, even on slsk. :fistshake:

P2P sucks these days. Most new music I get is here from good ol' mx.

MBS 08-11-2005 11:24 PM

My guess is the Tool thread.

Has anyone played Mercenaries?

I just picked up that game from blockbuster, and got a few cheats.

I went around with a Sniper rifle, a Rocket Laucher, and a helicopter just screwing every country over. It was fun.

Moses 08-11-2005 11:25 PM

Actually not for me.... I can find alot of stuff on Limewire. Of course I rely on the YSI thread for stuff like Necrophagist and Behemoth.

MBS isn't that what the majority of todays games are like?

/doesn't play many video games and if he does he only plays them when girlfriend is over.....

/too busy with music or getting busy with girlfriend

I usually just buy used CDs or pilfer from my stepdad.

Kage 08-11-2005 11:27 PM

Used CDs have saved my life in the past year.

Moses 08-11-2005 11:48 PM

Nice job killing the thread.

/goes to learn the Polonaise

magicbus 08-11-2005 11:48 PM

I've listened to a lot of (new) music all night.

Moses 08-12-2005 12:01 AM

HOLY SHIT IT JUST THUNDERED REALLY FUCKING LOUD!!!!!!

Kage 08-12-2005 12:05 AM

One time, a couple of friends and I were sitting in my back yard, talking when all of a sudden I see my friend look behind me, his eyes wide. Out of nowhere, the loudest fucking sound I've ever heard thunders and the whole sky lights up like I've never seen it. Lightning struck right next to us. We shot up from our chairs and ran into the house on instict. Heh. Luckily, nothing was damaged.

It was really funny, though.

Moses 08-12-2005 12:09 AM

I owned the caps filter.

Good story. Lightning struck outside my rich step Uncle Bob's house once and sparks flew up on the window.

magicbus 08-12-2005 12:16 AM

All I can hear outside are crickets. I like thunder better :upset:

Kage 08-12-2005 12:17 AM

Yes, you did. Interesting.

Moses, Red Sparowes on the way. Taking a really long time. If YSI gives out on me, I'll be pissed.

EDIT: Damn it, it did just that as I posted this!! I'll try again on rapidshare, I guess.

EDIT#2: I can't seem to get the .zip file for the whole album to upload at Rapidshare either, so I'll upload a song and see if you like it. If so, I'll make sure to get the whole album up somehow.

MBS 08-12-2005 12:19 AM

So how's everyone's evening?

NP: Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin

Kage 08-12-2005 12:28 AM

Not bad at all. Wasting away my last few days of summer vacation

More on the way, pending your reaction to it.

Moses 08-12-2005 12:34 AM

Ok, well my power went out so I was absent for a minute.

This is bogus because my download timed out and I tried it again and it says I can only do one at a time. So yeah rapidshare isn't working for me at the moment.

EDIT: It's working now.

EDIT2: Rapidshare continues to suck.

Congratulations 08-12-2005 01:16 AM

Fuck I'm sick of people cracking emo jokes. They aren't funny anymore. I can't believe the dickin' around that goes on here sometimes. I needed to rant, and I didn't think people would appretiate me making a thread about me whining about people on the internet. But it's really hard to get to the good information when you have to dig through 6 pages of crap.

Moses 08-12-2005 01:27 AM

Shut up emo kid. Ha just kidding.....

MBS 08-12-2005 01:50 AM

 I'm having so much fun, 4 of my friends are spamming up the myspace bulletin board. We've done about 75 bulletins between the 4 of us.

Moses 08-12-2005 01:50 AM

Holy **** that's awesome. Too bad I can't see them.

Lord Abortion 08-12-2005 04:59 AM

Pat O Brien is the member of nevermore who is in cannibal corpse also...I think, unless he left recently...
England smack Australia all over the field, 395-6 hahahaha

My mother dearest just returned from Finland with a full compliment of Food, presents and Mountian Dew :)

evilmenhavenosongs 08-12-2005 06:19 AM

Finnish is the funniest sounding language ever. It's great.

I downloaded the new HIM single but I don't want to listen to it incase it's awful...

munky_magik 08-12-2005 06:22 AM

It's hard to understand because they talk so fast, constantly. The even talk a full speed when drawing breath.

Haha, there are actually rules on how to play Cripple Mr. Onion here. That's taking it a bit too far :upset:

evilmenhavenosongs 08-12-2005 06:24 AM

That's just weird... And slightly obsessive. I found this fansite for Joathan Rhys Meyers which was so obsessive it scared me today. Imagine being famous and having people love you that much. Freaky.

Finns roll their r's right?

I am going to learn how to play this...

Six Foot Revolver 08-12-2005 06:28 AM

So I bought Love All The People by Bill Hicks today and I thought I would read you all an extract:

"Speaking of Satan, ah... I was watching Rush Limbaugh the other day. Doesn't Rush Limbaugh remind you of one of those gay guys who likes to lay in a tub while other men pee on him? Am I the only one? Can't you just see his fat body in a tub while Reagan, Quayle, and Bush just chhhhhhhhhh! Just stand around pissing on him, and he can't- his little piggly-wiggly dick can't get hard.

'Aargh, aargh, I can't get hard. Reagan, pee in my mouth.'
'Well, hows that, Rush?'

Still can't get hard, so they call in Barbara Bush. She takes her pearls off, puts 'em up his ass, then squats over him, undoes her girdle, her wrinkled, flaccid labia unfolds halfway down to her knees, like some ball-less scrotum. 'Aargh, aargh, aargh.' She squeezes out a link into his mouth. Finally his dick gets half-hard. "

Truly beautiful writing :)
